A legal prediction-based approach will help judges and solicitors to take judicial decisions on current cases, which are going on in courts, and make predictions on new cases on the basis of existing references and judgments. This model also helps law students learn about legal references. This application was developed specifically for the “Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP)” and the “Pakistan Bar Council (PBC)” to expedite their judgments and provide legal guidance to lawyers based on historical data and constitutions

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Corruption Management in Nigeria: A Perceptual Assessment of its Legal Framework

The menace of corruption and the fight against it the world wide has been a major preoccupation amongst pundits and administrators, especially amongst the third world countries. The existence of Anticorruption Agencies virtually in all countries of the world justifies this assertion. While some of these agencies in their countries of operations succeed others are still grabbling with the dynamics and complexities of the scourge thus looking for a durable methodology to curtail it spread. This paper assessed the perception of Nigerian on the strength of the EFCC against its functional responsibilities to determine the adequacy and appropriateness of the powers. The research is a survey type that explored both primary and secondary sources. The primary data were gathered through administration of questionnaire with a content analysis for the secondary data. Relying on Structural Functional theory, the study reveals among other things that, EFCC lacks adequate prosecutorial powers; it also cannot effectively ensure and monitor compliance to the limit of foreign currency transfer ($10000) and the local cash transaction limit; the court system in Nigeria has also frustrated the efforts of the commission in addition to the unruly behavior of some senior legal counsels who often connive with some judges to subvert justice. The paper therefore submits that the EFCC operate within unfavorable legal space that hinders to a large extent its operational success. It is therefore recommended inter alia: a specialized and separate court with specialized judges to handle financial crimes, streamlining the areas of responsibilities to just financial crimes for the EFCC

Balance has been reported to have an effect on athletic performance; therefore impairment in the sense of balance may result in reduced athletic performance. Lower limb musculoskeletal injury (LLMI) is the most common injury found among footballers, and most commonly-cited risk factor for poor balance performance. However, there is a disagreement over balance impairment persisting in Professional footballers with long term LLMI after the initial rehabilitation upon resuming normal sporting activities. This study therefore aimed at determining the BPF of Professional footballers with long term lower limb musculoskeletal injury, the effect of time lapse since occurrence of injury on BPF, compare BPF of injured professional footballers and uninjured footballers and to compare BPF and site/segment of LLMI among Professional footballers in Maiduguri, Borno State Nigeria. Sample of convenience was used to recruit 41 professional footballers. The participants comprised of 28(68.3%) injured players (IP) and 14(31.7%) uninjured players (UP) whose ages ranged from 17 to 30 years. Sociodemographic information of age, limb dominance, onset of injury and sites/segments of injury were obtained. Participant’s weight and height were measured using standardized procedure. Balance Performance (BPF) was assessed using the Stork balance stand test. The results indicated that lower balance performance was observed in the injured limb compared to the uninjured limb in IP (P<0.001). BPF was lower in the dominant limb of IP compared with the dominant limb of UP (P<0.001). Time lapse since injury and sites/segments of the LLMI did not have any effect on BPF (P>0.05). It was concluded that balance problems persist in professional footballers with long term LLMI irrespective of time lapse since injury and sites/segments of the LLMI. Coaches and rehabilitation personnel should pay particular attention on balance retraining of players with LLMI using balance exercise programs that will mainly improve/centered on their balance performance. Umbilical and ovarian endometriosis coexisting with multiple uterine myomas: A rare case report

Get PDF
Endometriosis and uterine fibroids are both independently associated with infertility/subfertility among women of reproductive age. Primary umbilical endometriosis is very rare and usually does not coexist with ovarian endometriomas. Endometriosis coexisting with uterine myomas has only been reported in few publications. Herein, we presented a patient with primary umbilical endometriosis with no previous history of surgery, with left ovarian endometriomas coexisting with multiple uterine fibroids. The diagnosis of umbilical endometriosis should be kept in mind while evaluating an umbilical mass. The ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging features of endometriosis and uterine myomas have been presented. To the best of our knowledge, a similar case has not been reported before

Effect of extracts of Calotropis procera and Parkinsonia aculeata in the treatment of Trypanosoma brucei brucei infected rats was studied. The albino rats were treated for 7 days with 200mg of the plant extracts intraperitoneally (ip) after establishment of parasitaemia. No significant(p>0.05) changes in weights were observed in all the groups. The results showed that Calotropis procera (root) was 96.43% as effective as Diminazene aceturate (berenil) in clearing parasitaemia. Significant(p<0.05) improvements in parked cell volume (PCV) were observed in the rats treated with Calotropis procera (root) and berenil. However, Calotropis procera (leaf) and Parkinsonia aculeata (leaf and stem bark) depressed red blood cell production. Total white blood cells (WBC) and differential count did not change significantly (p>0.05) in Calotropis procera (root) and berenil (positive control drug) treated groups. These observations were reversed in leaf and stem bark and leaf extracts of Calotropis proceraand Parkinsonia aculeata, respectively. In conclusion only the root extracts of Calotropis procera has demonstrated effective treatment of trypanosomiasis, possibly due to its phytochemical contents.Key words: Parkinsonia aculeata, Calotropis procera, Trypanosoma brucei brucei, Haematological parameter

Background and Purpose: A good and fulfilling relationship among individuals from distinct cultural backgrounds depends on effective communication. This research examined the perceived relationship between communication styles and interpersonal conflict resolution among international students in Malaysian universities. Methodology: The study employed a cross-sectional survey in which self-developed structured questionnaires were used to gather data from a random sample of 324 international students in 15 higher institutions across Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Findings: The findings of this study revealed a significant positive relationship between communication styles and interpersonal conflict resolution among international students. Specifically, passive, passive-aggressive, and assertive communication styles have a significant positive relationship with conflict resolution. However, the aggressive communication style exerts an insignificant effect on conflict resolution with a t-value of 0.734 and a P-value of 0.463. Thus, the students generally believe this style does not help to resolve interpersonal conflict. These outcomes suggest the students’ readiness for cultivating a peaceful learning environment. Contributions: This study provides relevant information that can help educational decision-makers to strengthen cross-cultural collaboration among international students in the Malaysian context. This valuable information can also facilitate successful academic, professional, and social cooperation. Keywords: Cross-cultural relationship, interpersonal conflict resolution, communication styles, international students, Malaysia. Cite as: Mohammed, S., Nasidi, Q.
