    Are plants with anti-cancer activity resistant to crown gall? : A test of hypothesis

    The Crown gall tumour assay (CGTA) is one of several bench top bioassays recommended for the rapid screening of plants with anti-cancer activity. The rationale for the use of the bioassay is that the tumorogenic mechanism initiated in plant tissues by _Agrobacterium tumefaciens_ is in many ways similar to that of animals. Several plant species with anti-cancer activity have already been discovered using this bioassay. However till date no explicit test of an association between anti-cancer activity of plants and their resistance to crown gall formation has been demonstrated. Demonstration of an association could have exploratory potential when searching for plants with anti-cancer activity. In this paper, we determined whether or not a statistically significant association between crown gall resistance and anti-cancer activity exists in plants found in existing published data sets. Our results indicate that plants with anti-cancer activity have a higher proportion of their species resistant to crown gall formation compared to a random selection of plants. We discuss the implications of our results especially when prospecting for newer sources of anti-cancer activity in plants

This article throws light on how the retailers can design their marketing strategies to attract people to buy organics food products and thereby increase the cultivation of the same. With increasing urbanisation and rise in health consciousness among the people, this article indicates that the demand for organic food products is only going to see an upswing. As the countries are preparing to embrace a paperless economy, the article titled "Futuristic perspective of online buyers for sustainability of E-Commerce" explores the ways and means of sustaining E-Commerce business. The study traces the growth of ECommerce business in India. It primarily focuses on the different perspectives of the online buyers. Changes in lifestyle patterns and the ubiquitous presence of sophisticated technology has led to the emergence of a new breed of citizens who are extremely tech savvy. "Changing Access Patterns of Tech Savvy Citizens" sheds light on the different ways in which digital technology consumers use modern technology

    A study on management of maternal anemia with infusion of intravenous iron sucrose and its outcome in management of anemia

    Background: In India, women become pregnant with low baseline hemoglobin level resulting in high incidence of moderate to severe anemia in pregnancy where oral iron therapy cannot meet the requirement. Pregnant women with moderate anemia are to be treated with parenteral iron therapy. The aim of the study is to the infusion of intravenous iron sucrose and its outcome in the management of anemia.Methods: Totally 100 pregnant females were included in the study. The study period was from January 2018-July 2018 at vanavil medical center in Chennai. 50 Patients of Group A was given oral iron tablets containing100mg of elemental iron. 50 patients of Group B was given a total of 1000 mg of intravenous iron sucrose divided into five doses of 200 mg each at weekly intervals. Estimation of hemoglobin was started 4 weeks after commencement of iron therapy and then repeated every 4 weeks till 36 weeks of gestation, pre-delivery and postpartum.Results: Target hemoglobin levels were achieved in 4 weeks’ time in 19 (76%) patients in the iron sucrose group as compared to 08 (32%) of patients in the oral iron group. There was a significant improvement in the various hematological parameters in iv sucrose group as compared to patients in the oral iron group. There were no significant allergic reactions in iv sucrose group.Conclusions: Our results showed that intravenous iron sucrose therapy was effective to treat moderate anemia in pregnant women. Intramuscular preparations are known to be associated with local side-effects. Iron sucrose complex iv therapy was with negligible side effects. It caused a rapid rise in hemoglobin level and the replacement of stores was faster. Long term comparative studies are required to assess if they can be used at a peripheral level

    Treatability Studies of Dairy Wastewater by Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor

    In any dairy plant, the quantity and characteristics of effluent is depending upon the extent of production activities, pasteurization of several milk products. The anaerobic digesters are used in the first phase of treatment, which is followed by high rate aerobic treatment. It remains as the most common effluent treatment scheme for dairy plants. The Indian dairy industry is stated to have the growth at more than 15% and waste water is poised to cross 150 million tones / annum. The requirement for milk and milk products is keep growing in steady state, making a significant impact on the Indian agriculture domain. The dairy industries require large quantity of water for the purpose of washing of cans, machinery and floor, the liquid waste in a dairy originates from manufacturing process, utilities and service section. So there is every need to reuse the waste water generated with proper and efficient treatment methods. Biological wastewater treatment has been performed in many different ways .In order to overcome the limitations of suspended and attached growth systems. Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket reactors are designed. UASB is a hybrid type of reactor, involving both suspended and attached growth process. This study involves the treatment of dairy industry wastewater by UASB reactor by varying the retention times in days for a particular organic loading rate .     Local Invariants and Pairwise Entanglement in Symmetric Multi-qubit System

    Pairwise entanglement properties of a symmetric multi-qubit system are analyzed through a complete set of two-qubit local invariants. Collective features of entanglement, such as spin squeezing, are expressed in terms of invariants and a classifcation scheme for pairwise entanglement is proposed. The invariant criteria given here are shown to be related to the recently proposed (Phys. Rev.     Angular Resolution of an EAS Array for Gamma Ray Astronomy at Energies Greater Than 5 x 10 (13) Ev

    A 24 detector extensive air shower array is being operated at Ootacamund (2300 m altitude, 11.4 deg N latitude) in southern India for a study of arrival directions of showers of energies greater than 5 x 10 to the 13th power eV. Various configurations of the array of detectors have been used to estimate the accuracy in determination of arrival angle of showers with such an array. These studies show that it is possible to achieve an angular resolution of better than 2 deg with the Ooty array for search for point sources of Cosmic gamma rays at energies above 5 x 10 to the 13th power eV
