Deep Image Compression Using Scene Text Quality Assessment

Image compression is a fundamental technology for Internet communication engineering. However, a high compression rate with general methods may degrade images, resulting in unreadable texts. In this paper, we propose an image compression method for maintaining text quality. We developed a scene text image quality assessment model to assess text quality in compressed images. The assessment model iteratively searches for the best-compressed image holding high-quality text. Objective and subjective results showed that the proposed method was superior to existing methods. Furthermore, the proposed assessment model outperformed other deep-learning regression models.Comment: Accepted by Pattern Recognition, 202

This is a translation of Tsukasa Uetsuka’s plan for the exploration of the Amazon and which paved the way for the success of jute farming in the floodplains of the States of Amazonas and Pará, leading Brazil to self-sufficiency in jute fiber in 1951. Tsukasa Uetsuka (1890-1978) was responsible for the new Japanese immigration modality through the formation of a group of leaders (koutakuseis) and the development of a research institute in Vila Amazônia in the municipality of Parintins-AM. From this text it is possible to understand the entire initial process , the concession contract of one million hectares by the governor of Amazonas Efigênio Salles in 1927 to the Japanese and the first steps of the exploration of the State of Amazonas, presentation of the Amazon and its wealth to future explorers. The text was published in the Japanese monthly magazine Kingu in June 1931 and is found today on the digital website of the Library Diet Library.

This study proposes reflections on the contributions of theater to literary education. Its main objective is to show how the practical experience of a stage reading of the play “Kantan – The Magic Pillow”, from “Kindainôgakushû” (Modern Noh plays) by Yukio Mishima, with undergraduate students of the course in Teaching Japanese Language and Literature at the University of Brasília, is related to the education of critical, ethical individuals with aesthetic perspectives. The discussion includes Mikhail Bakhtin’s dialogism, Paulo Freire’s libertarian education, bell hooks’ multiculturalism, Edgar Morin’s transdisciplinarity, Bertolt Brecht’s political view, Viola Spolin’s theatrical games, Magalhães dos Reis’ stage readings, among other authors. We approached the reading of literature from the perspective of Antonio Candido, Antoine Compagnon, among others who see literature through a humanizing lens. This stage reading experience resulted in transformations in the students’ stances in relation to dramaturgy and literature in the sense of taking into account the materiality of the theatrical text with the subject’s bodily and affective dimensions

Absorption of Carbon Dioxide by the Application of Carbonic Anhydrase. II : Effect of Enzyme on the Rate of Absorption of Carbon Dioxide by Magnesium Oxide

    Get PDF
In order to accelerate the rate of absorption of carbon dioxide by magnesium oxide, carbonic anhydrase or red blood corpuscles were added to magnesium oxide suspended in water as an accelerator. The rate of absorption was increased with the increase of the concentration of carbonic anhydrase up to 24 mg per litre. But by adding more amount of the enzyme, little further acceleration of the absorption rate was observed. The rate of absorption was also increased with the concentration of magnesium oxide up to 20 g per litre, whether the enzyme was present or not. The enzyme action was almost independent of the particle size of the oxide. The optimum temperature of the absorption was 35℃ in the absence of the enzyme and 45℃ in its presence. The enzyme lost its activity at 80℃. Red blood corpuscles, used instead of the enzyme, increased also the absorption velocity

________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis research presents a reflection on the contributions of the development of language that theater games bring to learners of the Japanese language, with an oralization of the literary genre: narratives of ancient Japanese histories. Its aim is to foster oral expression starting from real interactions, giving importance to text and using theatrical techniques, thus considering the affective and corporal dimensions of the participants, which (re)mean and (re)construct the utterances in a foreign language. It adopts a view of language that embraces its inseparable cultural, social and ideological contexts. The research is based mainly on the theories of Bakhtin (1929/1986), Revuz (1998), Mastrella de Andrade (2011), Reis (2008), Viola Spolin (2000), amongst others. The practical experience was applied in a thematic course offered to the public by the University of Brasília, for students that completed a basic level of Japanese. The methodology of action research was used within the perspective of Barbier (2007), in order to have a transformation in the mode of teaching / learning a foreign language.

Preparation of Hydroxylamine Using Liquid Sulfur Dioxide

    Get PDF
In order to prepare hydroxylamine from sodium nitrite, sodium bisulfite, and sulfur dioxide, liquid sulfur dioxide was used instead of gaseous one and the optimum condition for getting maximum yield was studied by rather quickly adding the dioxide. The best mole ratio of the material is as follows : NaNO_2:NaHSO_3:SO_2 = 1.0:1.0:0.95~0.97. Even the excess of any component results less yield. The preparing time of sodium hydroxylamine disulfonate was reduced to 1/10~1/20 by quickly adding liquid sulfur dioxide. But it was perceived that the yield was independent of the adding velocity of the sulfur dioxide. On the hydrolysis of the disulfonate in presence of sulfuric acid by direct heating, the hydrolyzing time was shortened. In total, the preparing time of hydroxylamine was shortened by about one tenth

Absorption of Gas in Liquid with Corona Discharge

    Get PDF
The absorption rate of gases in liquid in wetted-wall columns is strongly accelerated by a corona discharge. The phenomenon occurs when the main resistance is in the gas phase. It is recognized that the acceleration of the absorption rate is caused by the turbulence of the gas stream, in wetted-wall columns, produced by the corona discharge
