    Nikishin systems are perfect

    K. Mahler introduced the concept of perfect systems in the general theory he developed for the simultaneous Hermite-Pade approximation of analytic functions. We prove that Nikishin systems are perfect providing, by far, the largest class of systems of functions for which this important property holds. As consequences, in the context of Nikishin systems, we obtain: an extension of Markov's theorem to simultaneous Hermite-Pade approximation, a general result on the convergence of simultaneous quadrature rules of Gauss-Jacobi type, the logarithmic asymptotics of general sequences of multiple orthogonal polynomials, and an extension of the Denisov-Rakhmanov theorem for the ratio asymptotics of mixed type multiple orthogonal polynomials.Comment: 39 page

Los resultados constituyen un importante punto de partida para disponer de un instrumento de medida de la CVRS infantil, en lengua españolaObjectivesTo obtain a first Spanish version of the KINDL questionnaire idiomatic and culturally equivalent to the German original version, and then to evaluate its psychometric properties in a sample of healthy children/adolescents 8-16 years old, and their parentsDesignCross-sectional studySetting2 public schools of Asturias of similar sociodemographic conditionsParticipants243 children 8–16 year-old, and 153 parents were investigatedMain measurementsHRQoL evaluated through the generic questionnaire KINDL. An external assessment through the parents was made as well. The psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the questionnaire were investigated and results on HRQoL are presented for different ages and gender in the Spanish sampleResults6 ítems (6/24) needed successive translations and conceptual discussion during the phase of idiomatic adaptation. The factorial analysis confirmed the validity of construction of the instrument for most scales. The internal consistency, measured by αCronbach coefficent, was good for the total of the questionnaire (>0.70) and acceptable in most of the scales (>0.50). Only the school scale for adolescents shows very poor reliability. Females and children with higher age scored lower in most of the investigated dimensions (P<.01)ConclusionsThe first Spanish version of the Kindl showed acceptable reliability and validity. In spite of the punctual inadequacies found in this first step of the investigation, the results constitute an important starting point to work futher on the KINDL as an HRQoL instrument -in Spanish language-, to measure subjective well-being in childre

Mixed type multiple orthogonal polynomials for two Nikishin systems

    Get PDF
We study the logarithmic and ratio asymptotic of linear forms constructed from a Nikishin system which satisfy orthogonality conditions with respect to a system of measures generated from another Nikishin system. This construction combines type I and type II multiple orthogonal polynomials. The logarithmic asymptotic of the linear forms is expressed in terms of the extremal solution of an associated vector valued equilibrium problem for the logarithmic potential. The ratio asymptotic is described by means of a conformal representation of an appropriate Riemann surface of genus zero onto the extended complex plane.Comment: 46 page

Riemann-Hilbert problem associated with Angelesco systems

Angelesco systems of measures with Jacobi-type weights are considered. For such systems, strong asymptotics for the related multiple orthogonal polynomials are found as well as the Szego-type functions. In the procedure, an approach from the Riemann Hilbert problem plays a fundamental role

This study investigated whether this combination of a DNA-damaging chemotherapy plus olaparib is effective in PROC regardless BRCA status. Patients and methods Patients with high-grade serous or endometrioid ovarian carcinoma and one previous PROC recurrence were enrolled regardless of BRCA status. Patients with ≤4 previous lines (up to 5 in BRCA-mut) with at least one previous platinum-sensitive relapse were included; primary PROC was allowed only in case of BRCA-mut. Patients initially received six cycles of olaparib 300 mg b.i.d. (biduum) + intravenous pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) 40 mg/m2 (PLD40) every 28 days, followed by maintenance with olaparib 300 mg b.i.d. until progression or toxicity. The PLD dose was reduced to 30 mg/m2 (PLD30) due to toxicity. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) at 6 months (6m-PFS) by RECIST version 1.1. A proportion of 40% 6m-PFS or more was considered of clinical interest. Results From 2017 to 2020, 31 PROC patients were included. BRCA mutations were present in 16%. The median of previous lines was 2 (range 1-5). The overall disease control rate was 77% (partial response rate of 29% and stable disease rate of 48%). After a median follow-up of 10 months, the 6m-PFS and median PFS were 47% and 5.8 months, respectively. Grade ≥3 treatment-related adverse events occurred in 74% of patients, with neutropenia/anemia being the most frequent. With PLD30 serious AEs were less frequent than with PLD40 (21% versus 47%, respectively); moreover, PLD30 was associated with less PLD delays (32% versus 38%) and reductions (16% versus 22%). Conclusions The PLD–olaparib combination has shown significant activity in PROC regardless of BRCA status. PLD at 30 mg/m2 is better tolerated in the combination. This work was supported by Grupo Español de Investigación en Cáncer de Ovario (GEICO) (no grant number). AstraZeneca provided olaparib and awarded a grant to GEICO (no grant number) to pay the costs of the study but did not take part in the conduct of the current clinical trial or in the analysis and interpretation of the results. Pegylated ribosomal doxorubicin was provided by the sites according to local standard procedures

The microquasar V404 Cygni underwent a series of outbursts in 2015, June 15-31, during which its flux in hard X-rays (20-40 keV) reached about 40 times the Crab nebula flux. Because of the exceptional interest of the flaring activity from this source, observations at several wavelengths were conducted. The MAGIC telescopes, triggered by the INTEGRAL alerts, followed-up the flaring source for several nights during the period June 18-27, for more than 10 h. One hour of observation was simultaneously conducted on a giant 22 GHz radio flare and a hint of signal at GeV energies seen by Fermi-LAT. The MAGIC observations did not show significant emission in any of the analysed time intervals. The derived flux upper limit, in the energy range 200-1250 GeV, is 4.8 x 10(-12) photons cm(-2) s(-1). We estimate the gamma-ray opacity during the flaring period, which along with our non-detection points to an inefficient acceleration in the V404 Cyg jets if a very high energy emitter is located further than 1 x 10(10) cm from the compact object
