    K_S\rightarrow \gamma\gamma , K_L\rightarrow\pi^0\gamma\gamma$ and Unitarity

    Agreement between the experimental value Γ(KSγγ)\Gamma (K_S\rightarrow \gamma\gamma) and the number predicted via a one-loop chiral perturbation theory calculation has been cited as a success for the latter. On the other hand the one-loop prediction for the closely related process KLπ0γγK_L\rightarrow \pi^0\gamma\gamma has been found to be a factor three below the experimental value. Using the inputs of unitarity and dispersion relations, we demonstrate the importance of higher order loop effects to both of these processes.Comment: 20 pages (4 figures available on request), UMHEP-39

    Low-lying energy levels of two interacting electrons confined in a two-dimensional parabolic quantum dot in the presence of an external magnetic field have been revised within the frame of a novel model. The present formalism, which gives closed algebraic solutions for the specific values of magnetic field and spatial confinement length, enables us to see explicitly individual effects of the electron correlation.Comment: 14 page

    Seasonal variation of phytoplankton in My Thanh River, Mekong delta, Vietnam

    A study on the seasonal variation of phytoplankton composition was conducted at the upper, middle, and lower parts of the My Thanh River, which supplies an important source of water for aquaculture. Qualitative and quantitative samples of phytoplankton were collected monthly at both high and low tide. The results showed that a total of 171 phytoplankton (algae) species were recorded, belonging to 59 genera and 5 phyla. Diatoms were the most abundant group with the highest species number, followed by green algae. The other phyla possessed a lower number of species. The species composition was more diverse in the rainy season and at high tide at most of the sampling sites. The mean density of algae varied from 30,900-43,521 ind.L^-1^. The density of diatoms was higher in the middle and lower parts. At the same time, euglenoids displayed the highest density in the upper part, showing a difference in the dominant algae group under the influence of salinity. Salinity was found to be significantly positively correlated (p<0.01) with diatoms, whereas it was negatively correlated (p<0.05) with blue-green algae and euglenoids. The algae composition was quite diverse, with the H' index ranging from 2.0-3.3, showing the water quality was slightly to moderately polluted

MedTech companies play a crucial role in advancing circularity within the sector by adopting sustainable approaches to product design, resource management, and waste reduction. This research aims to explore how MedTech companies initiate and drive transformation towards circular practices and the key factors influencing their successful transition. Using a qualitative approach, four multinational MedTech companies' case studies are conducted, employing semi-structured interviews with 33 managers and healthcare professionals. The results reveal a model grounded in dynamic capabilities, comprising three stages: sensing, seizing, and transforming, guided by adaptability and flexibility. The study extends the understanding of how MedTech companies can proactively respond to environmental challenges and embrace circular economy practices. Furthermore, the model offers practical implications for MedTech companies to foster sustainable practices, optimize resources, and enhance circularity in the healthcare industry

    Photon-Photon Scattering, Pion Polarizability and Chiral Symmetry

    Recent attempts to detect the pion polarizability via analysis of γγππ\gamma\gamma\rightarrow\pi\pi measurements are examined. The connection between calculations based on dispersion relations and on chiral perturbation theory is established by matching the low energy chiral amplitude with that given by a full dispersive treatment.     Stronger diversity effects with increased environmental stress : a study of multitrophic interactions between oak, powdery mildew and ladybirds

    Recent research has suggested that increasing neighbourhood tree species diversity may mitigate the impact of pests or pathogens by supporting the activities of their natural enemies and/or reducing the density of available hosts. In this study, we attempted to assess these mechanisms in a multitrophic study system of young oak (Quercus), oak powdery mildew (PM, caused by Erysiphe spp.) and a mycophagous ladybird (Psyllobora vigintiduo-punctata). We assessed ladybird mycophagy on oak PM in function of different neighbourhood tree species compositions. We also evaluated whether these species interactions were modulated by environmental conditions as suggested by the Stress Gradient Hypothesis. We adopted a complementary approach of a field experiment where we monitored oak saplings subjected to a reduced rainfall gradient in a young planted forest consisting of different tree species mixtures, as well as a lab experiment where we independently evaluated the effect of different watering treatments on PM infections and ladybird mycophagy. In the field experiment, we found effects of neighbourhood tree species richness on ladybird mycophagy becoming more positive as the target trees received less water. This effect was only found as weather conditions grew drier. In the lab experiment, we found a preference of ladybirds to graze on infected leaves from trees that received less water. We discuss potential mechanisms that might explain this preference, such as emissions of volatile leaf chemicals. Our results are in line with the expectations of the Natural Enemies Hypothesis and support the hypothesis that biodiversity effects become stronger with increased environmental stress
