Trends of HIV-related cancer mortality between 2001 and 2018: an observational analysis
The burden of AIDS-defining cancers has remained relatively steady for the past two decades, whilst the burden of non-AIDS-defining cancer has increased. Here, we conduct a study to describe mortality trends attributed to HIV-associated cancers in 31 countries. We extracted HIV-related cancer mortality data from 2001 to 2018 from the World Health Organization Mortality Database. We computed age-standardized death rates (ASDRs) per 100,000 population using the World Standard Population. Data were visualized using Locally Weighted Scatterplot Smoothing (LOWESS). Data for females were available for 25 countries. Overall, there has been a decrease in mortality attributed to HIV-associated cancers among most of the countries. In total, 18 out of 31 countries (58.0%) and 14 out of 25 countries (56.0%) showed decreases in male and female mortality, respectively. An increasing mortality trend was observed in many developing countries, such as Malaysia and Thailand, and some developed countries, such as the United Kingdom. Malaysia had the greatest increase in male mortality (+495.0%), and Canada had the greatest decrease (-88.5%). Thailand had the greatest increase in female mortality (+540.0%), and Germany had the greatest decrease (-86.0%). At the endpoint year, South Africa had the highest ASDRs for both males (16.8/100,000) and females (19.2/100,000). The lowest was in Japan for males (0.07/100,000) and Egypt for females (0.028/100,000)
Photons from Pb-Pb Collisions at CERN SPS
High energy photon emission rate from matter created in Pb + Pb collisions at
CERN SPS energies is evaluated. The evolution of matter from the initial state
up to freeze-out has been treated within the framework of (3+1) dimensional
hydrodynamic expansion. We observe that the photon spectra measured by the WA98
experiment are well reproduced with hard QCD photons and photons from a thermal
source with initial temperature ~ 200 MeV. The effects of the spectral changes
of hadrons with temperature on the photon emission rate and on the equation of
state are studied. Photon yield for Au + Au collisions at RHIC energies is also
estimated.Comment: To appear in Phys. Rev. C (Rapid Communications
A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN
This document provides a brief overview of the recently published report on
the design of the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), which comprises its
physics programme, accelerator physics, technology and main detector concepts.
The LHeC exploits and develops challenging, though principally existing,
accelerator and detector technologies. This summary is complemented by brief
illustrations of some of the highlights of the physics programme, which relies
on a vastly extended kinematic range, luminosity and unprecedented precision in
deep inelastic scattering. Illustrations are provided regarding high precision
QCD, new physics (Higgs, SUSY) and electron-ion physics. The LHeC is designed
to run synchronously with the LHC in the twenties and to achieve an integrated
luminosity of O(100) fb. It will become the cleanest high resolution
microscope of mankind and will substantially extend as well as complement the
investigation of the physics of the TeV energy scale, which has been enabled by
the LHC
Measurement of the proton form factor by studying
Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider,
we measure the Born cross section of at 12
center-of-mass energies from 2232.4 to 3671.0 MeV. The corresponding effective
electromagnetic form factor of the proton is deduced under the assumption that
the electric and magnetic form factors are equal . In
addition, the ratio of electric to magnetic form factors, , and
are extracted by fitting the polar angle distribution of the proton
for the data samples with larger statistics, namely at 2232.4 and
2400.0 MeV and a combined sample at = 3050.0, 3060.0 and 3080.0 MeV,
respectively. The measured cross sections are in agreement with recent results
from BaBar, improving the overall uncertainty by about 30\%. The
ratios are close to unity and consistent with BaBar results in
the same region, which indicates the data are consistent with the
assumption that within uncertainties.Comment: 13 pages, 24 figure
Confirmation of a charged charmoniumlike state in with double tag
We present a study of the process
using data samples of 1092~pb at ~GeV and 826~pb
at ~GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage
ring. With full reconstruction of the meson pair and the bachelor
in the final state, we confirm the existence of the charged
structure in the system in the two
isospin processes and . By
performing a simultaneous fit, the statistical significance of
signal is determined to be greater than 10, and its pole mass and width
are measured to be
=(3881.71.6(stat.)1.6(syst.))~MeV/ and
=(26.62.0(stat.)2.1(syst.))~MeV, respectively.
The Born cross section times the branching fraction

Observation of a charged charmoniumlike structure in at GeV
We study the process at a
center-of-mass energy of 4.26GeV using a 827pb data sample obtained with
the BESIII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. Based on a
partial reconstruction technique, the Born cross section is measured to be
pb. We observe a structure near the
threshold in the recoil mass spectrum, which we denote as the

MeV/c and MeV, respectively. Its
production ratio is determined to be . The first uncertainties
are statistical and the second are systematic.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 1 table; version accepted to be published in PR
Observation of the isospin-violating decay
Using a sample of 1.31 billion events collected with the BESIII
detector at the BEPCII collider, the decays and are
investigated. The isospin violating decay
with , is observed for the first time. The width of the
obtained from the dipion mass spectrum is found to be much smaller
than the world average value. In the mass spectrum, there
is evidence of production. By studying the decay , the branching fractions of and
, as well as their ratio, are also measured.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, published in Phys. Rev.
An amplitude analysis of the system produced in radiative decays
An amplitude analysis of the system produced in radiative
decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that
describes the dynamics of the system is determined as a
function of from an analysis of the
decays collected by the BESIII detector.
The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor
components of the system while making minimal assumptions about
the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent
description allows one to integrate these results with other related results
from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models,
which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters
of interest. The branching fraction of is
determined to be , where the uncertainty is
systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. D 19 pages, 4 figure
Measurement of azimuthal asymmetries in inclusive charged dipion production in annihilations at = 3.65 GeV
We present a measurement of the azimuthal asymmetries of two charged pions in
the inclusive process based on a data set of 62
at the center-of-mass energy GeV collected with
the BESIII detector. These asymmetries can be attributed to the Collins
fragmentation function. We observe a nonzero asymmetry, which increases with
increasing pion momentum. As our energy scale is close to that of the existing
semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured
asymmetries are important inputs for the global analysis of extracting the
quark transversity distribution inside the nucleon and are valuable to explore
the energy evolution of the spin-dependent fragmentation function.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
