Impact and oviposition behaviour of Ageniaspis fuscicollis (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae), a polyembryonic parasitoid of the apple ermine moth, Yponomeuta malinellus (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae)
The distribution and extent of parasitism of the apple ermine moth Yponomeuta malinellus Zeller by the polyembyronic encyrtid parasitoid Ageniaspis fuscicollis (Dalman) were examined in a three year field study and related to oviposition behaviour in the laboratory. Ageniaspis fuscicollis attacks egg batches of its host and kills the final instar larvae, which feed gregariously from within tents. Host population densities in the field were low, from 1.5 to 2.2 tents per 100 leaf clusters, and parasitism increased from 7.8% to 18% over the three year period. Parasitism was independent of host density at the whole tree scale, but at the individual tent scale, the probability of a tent containing parasitized host larvae increased and percent parasitism decreased with the number of host larvae per tent. Observations on the oviposition behaviour of A. fuscicollis in the laboratory revealed that parasitoids distributed their eggs randomly within host egg batches. On average, they spent almost two hours on an egg batch and laid 44% of their egg load of 132 eggs into the first egg batch visited, leading to a mean of 1.4 eggs laid per host egg through frequent self-superparasitism of hosts. The percentage of eggs receiving one or more ovipositions was independent of the size of an egg batch, contradicting our field observations of inverse density dependence. Variable stars in the Open Cluster M11 (NGC 6705)
V-band time-series CCD photometric observations of the intermediate-age open
cluster M11 were performed to search for variable stars. Using these
time-series data, we carefully examined light variations of all stars in the
observing field. A total of 82 variable stars were discovered, of which 39
stars had been detected recently by Hargis et al. (2005). On the basis of
observational properties such as variable period, light curve shape, and
position on a color-magnitude diagram, we classified their variable types as 11
delta Scuti-type pulsating stars, 2 gamma Doradus-type pulsating stars, 40 W
UMa-type contact eclipsing binaries, 13 Algol-type detached eclipsing binaries,
and 16 eclipsing binaries with long period. Cluster membership for each
variable star was deduced from the previous proper motion results (McNamara et
al. 1977) and position on the color-magnitude diagram. Many pulsating stars and

[(C C)Au(N N)](+) Complexes as a New Family of Anticancer Candidates: Synthesis, Characterization and Exploration of the Antiproliferative Properties
A library of eleven cationic gold(III) complexes of the general formula [(C C)Au(N N)]+ when C C is either biphenyl or 4,4’-ditertbutyldiphenyl and N N is a bipyridine, phenanthroline or dipyridylamine derivative have been synthesized and characterized. Contrasting effects on the viability of the triple negative breast cancer cells MDA-MB-231 was observed from a preliminary screening. The antiproliferative activity of the seven most active complexes were further assayed on a larger panel of human cancer cells as well as on non-cancerous cells for comparison. Two complexes stood out for being either highly active or highly selective. Eventually, reactivity studies with biologically meaningful amino acids, glutathione, higher order DNA structures and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) revealed a markedly different behavior from that of the well-known coordinatively isomeric [(C N C)Au(NHC)]+ structure. This makes the [(C C)Au(N N)]+ complexes a new class of organogold compounds with an original mode of action

The {\eta}'-carbon potential at low meson momenta
The production of mesons in coincidence with forward-going
protons has been studied in photon-induced reactions on C and on a
liquid hydrogen (LH) target for incoming photon energies of 1.3-2.6 GeV at
the electron accelerator ELSA. The mesons have been identified
via the decay
registered with the CBELSA/TAPS detector system. Coincident protons have been
identified in the MiniTAPS BaF array at polar angles of . Under these kinematic constraints the
mesons are produced with relatively low kinetic energy (
150 MeV) since the coincident protons take over most of the momentum of the
incident-photon beam. For the C-target this allows the determination of the
real part of the -carbon potential at low meson momenta by
comparing with collision model calculations of the kinetic energy
distribution and excitation function. Fitting the latter data for
mesons going backwards in the center-of-mass system yields a potential depth of
V = (44 16(stat)15(syst)) MeV, consistent with earlier
determinations of the potential depth in inclusive measurements for average
momenta of 1.1 GeV/. Within the experimental
uncertainties, there is no indication of a momentum dependence of the
-carbon potential. The LH data, taken as a reference to check
the data analysis and the model calculations, provide differential and integral
cross sections in good agreement with previous results for

Experimental constraints on the -nucleus real potential
In a search for mesic states, the production of -mesons in
coincidence with forward going protons has been studied in photon induced
reactions on C for incident photon energies of 1250 - 3100 MeV. The
pairs from decays of bound or quasi-free -mesons have
been measured with the CBELSA/TAPS detector system in coincidence with protons
registered in the MiniTAPS forward array. Structures in the total energy
distribution of the pairs, which would indicate the population
and decay of bound B states, are not observed. The
cross section of 0.3 nb/MeV/sr observed in the bound state energy regime
between -100 and 0 MeV may be accounted for by yield leaking into the bound
state regime because of the large in-medium width of the -meson. A
comparison of the measured total energy distribution with calculations suggests
the real part of the B potential to be small and only
weakly attractive with 35(stat) 20(syst) MeV
in contrast to some theoretical predictions of attractive potentials with a

Photoproduction of {\omega} Mesons off the Proton
The differential cross sections and unpolarized spin-density matrix elements
for the reaction were measured using the CBELSA/TAPS
experiment for initial photon energies ranging from the reaction threshold to
2.5 GeV. These observables were measured from the radiative decay of the
meson, . The cross sections cover the full
angular range and show the full extent of the -channel forward rise. The
overall shape of the angular distributions in the differential cross sections
and unpolarized spin-density matrix elements are in fair agreement with
previous data. In addition, for the first time, a beam of linearly-polarized
tagged photons in the energy range from 1150 MeV to 1650 MeV was used to
extract polarized spin-density matrix elements.
These data were included in the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis (PWA).
The dominant contribution to photoproduction near threshold was found
to be the partial wave, which is primarily due to the sub-threshold
resonance. At higher energies, pomeron-exchange was found to
dominate whereas -exchange remained small. These -channel contributions
as well as further contributions from nucleon resonances were necessary to
describe the entire dataset: the , , and partial waves

Modification of the -Meson Lifetime in Nuclear Matter
The photo production of mesons on the nuclei C, Ca, Nb and Pb has
been measured using the Crystal Barrel/TAPS detector at the ELSA tagged photon
facility in Bonn. The dependence of the meson cross section on the
nuclear mass number has been compared with three different types of models, a
Glauber analysis, a BUU analysis of the Giessen theory group and a calculation
by the Valencia theory group. In all three cases, the inelastic width
is found to be at normal nuclear matter density for an
average 3-momentum of 1.1 GeV/c. In the restframe of the meson, this
inelastic width corresponds to a reduction of the lifetime by
a factor . For the first time, the momentum dependent N
cross section has been extracted from the experiment and is in the range of 70

First measurement of the helicity asymmetry for in the resonance region
The first measurement of the helicity dependence of the photoproduction cross
section of single neutral pions off protons is reported for photon energies
from 600 to 2300\,MeV, covering nearly the full solid angle. The data are
compared to predictions from the SAID, MAID, and BnGa partial wave analyses.
Strikingly large differences between data and predictions are observed which
are traced to differences in the helicity amplitudes of well known and
established resonances. Precise values for the helicity amplitudes of several
resonances are reported
