Intraabdomınal lymphangioma is a rare disease. Pancreatic counterpart occurs as cystic mass and should be kept in mind in patients with cystic pancreatic lesions. It is important to diagnose preoperatively to choose therapy modality. In this paper, we present a rare case of pancreatic lymphangioma which was diagnosed incidentall

Despite innovations in pelvic floor and anal incontinence that have been continuously improving in recent years, there is still a socioeconomic and medical problem in the world and in our country. In particular, the effects of anorectal physiology tests increasing in frequency of diagnosis are gradually increasing. In this study, 240 patients who applied for pelvic floor diseases and anal inkontinance between January 2015 and August 2017 were evaluated retrospectively in Balcalı Hospital General Surgery Departmant of Çukurova University Faculty of medicine. A comparison of the treatment effects of the anorectal physiology tests used during the diagnostic phase with the literature was planned. In the evaluations of the patients, the physiological findings, the wexner scores, the systemic disease story, the normal vaginal birth count, the birth trauma, the episiotomy epiglottis, the proctologic and pelvic floor disease episodes, and the incontinence score, Wexner incontinence scoring system were used. Patients were divided into three groups: peroperative and postoperative, obstructive defecation syndrome, and anal incontinence. The rates of Anorectal manometry, Endoanalusg, Defakografi, EMG were evaluated in these patient groups and the place of these tests in the treatment was determined. The anorectal physiology test we found that the cause of the illness in the patients was better illuminated and the treatment plan was made more accurate

Microgravity, Stem Cells, and Cancer: A New Hope for Cancer Treatment

    No full text
Humans are integrated with the environment where they live. Gravitational force plays an important role in shaping the universe, lives, and even cellular biological processes. Research in the last 40 years has shown how exposure to microgravity changes biological processes. Microgravity has been shown to have significant effects on cellular proliferation, invasion, apoptosis, migration, and gene expression, specifically in tumor cells, and these effects may also exist in stem and cancer stem cells. It has also been shown that microgravity changes the effects of chemotherapeutic drugs. Although studies have been carried out in a simulated microgravity environment in cell culture lines, there are few animal experiments or true microgravity studies. Cancer remains one of the most significant problems worldwide. Despite advances in medical science, no definitive strategies have been found for the prevention of cancer formation or to inform treatment. Thus, the microgravity environment is a potential new therapeutic strategy for future cancer treatment. This review will focus on current knowledge on the impact of the microgravity environment on cancer cells, stem cells, and the biological behavior of cancer stem cells

Seasonal Pattern of Peptic Ulcer Perforation in Central Anatolia

BACKGROUNDPrevious studies have reported seasonal variations in peptic ulcer disease (PUD), butonly few large-scale, population-based studies have been conducted in this regard. In this study, we wanted to present the seasonal relationship of peptic ulcer perforation admissions, seasonal variation of its incidence, modes of surgical management, the seasonal distribution of postoperative severe complications and the patient outcome.METHODSThis is a retrospective cohort study. Patients hospitalized for peptic ulcer perforation between 1st January 2008 and 1st January 2020 were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups according to postoperative complication status as Group1 - Clavien Dindo < 3 and Group 2 - Clavien Dindo > 3. Age, gender and seasonal periods were compared. In addition, patients were divided into three groups according to age as 18 – 40 yrs., 40 - 60 yrs. and over 60 yrs. The gender and complication status of the patients were also evaluated in seasonal groups.RESULTS135 patients participated in our study. Group 1 constituted of 107 patients and Group2 constituted of 28 patients. Admission to the hospital due to peptic ulcer perforation was most common in spring (29.6 %) and summer (29.6 %). Twenty - eight patients had Clavien - Dindo 3 or more complications. The mean age was higher in Group 2 (70.78 vs 50.2 P : 0.001) as well as female gender dominancy (60.7 % vs 29.9 %). In Group 2 winter months were more frequent (46,5 % vs 21.5 %); however, there was no significant difference between the seasons and the complication groups. In Group2, female gender was more common in winter (21.7 % vs 69.2 % P:0.005) and autumn season (31.3 % vs 100 % P : 0.027).CONCLUSIONSIn our study, we found an increased incidence of peptic ulcer perforation in spring and summer. For patients at higher risk, an appropriate pharmacological treatment can be arranged to reduce the risk of perforation during the risky season.KEY WORDSPeptic Ulcer Disease, Seasonal Change, Complication </p
