Productivity of livestock with chemical additives becoming obsolete, now developed, from natural herbal additives such as turmeric contains curcumin is efficacious as antihepatotoksik enthelmintik, antiedemik, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and effective fat metabolism in the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of turmeric powder as a feed supplement in feed quail with different delivery periods to optimize tissue function in order to carry out metabolism and maintain the physiological functions of tissues seen from the number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin levels. This study used 30 female quails (Cortunix cortunix japonica) in similar age groups divided into 3 treatment groups namely P0 (not given turmeric), P1 (group fed turmeric as non productive age the age of 210 days) and P2 (group turmeric was given before the age of non-productive until age 14 -240 days). Quail were decapitated at the age of 240 days and taken blood in tubes containing EDTA venojack. Examination of the number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin using a counting chamber method and the method of Sahli done on the same day to ensure the validity of data. Research results showed that administration of turmeric in non-productive age (age 210 days) could potentially increase the amount of hemoglobin and the number of erythrocytes (P <0.05), compared with quail fed turmeric since 14 days and control treatments. The average number of erythrocytes P0, P1, and P2, respectively 3,285; 4.7; 2,729 and Mean hemoglobin levels P0, P1, and P2, respectively 12.27; 15.0; 13.5. It is concluded that administration of turmeric in the non produktrif potentially increase cell metabolism is marked by an increase in the number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin count

Electromagnetic Interference in Measurements of Radial Stress During Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar Experiments

Split Hopkinson pressure bar experiments on soils are often carried out using a rigid steel confining ring to provide plane strain conditions, and measurements of the circumferential strain in the ring can be used to infer the radial stress on the surface of the specimen. Previous experiments have shown evidence of irregular electromagnetic interference in measurements of radial stress, which obscures the signals and impedes analysis. The development of robust constitutive models for soils in blast and impact events relies on the accurate characterisation of this behaviour, and so it is necessary to isolate and remove the source of interference. This paper uses an induction coil to identify the source of the anomalous signals, which are found to be due to induced currents in the gauge lead wires from the movement of magnetised pressure bars (martensitic stainless steel, 440C). Comparative experiments on sand and rubber specimens are used to show that the deforming soil specimen does not make a significant contribution to this activity, and recommendations are made on reducing electromagnetic interference to provide reliable radial stress measurements

The published version of this article may be accessed at the link below. Copyright @ IOP Publishing, 2006.We describe miniature all-optical pressure sensors, fabricated by wafer etching techniques, less than 1 mm(2) in overall cross-section with rise times in the mu s regime and pressure ranges typically 900 kPa (9 bar). Their performance is suitable for experimental studies of the pressure-time history for test models exposed to shocks initiated by an explosive charge. The small size and fast response of the sensors promises higher quality data than has been previously available from conventional electrical sensors, with potential improvements to numerical models of blast effects. Results from blast tests are presented in which up to six sensors were multiplexed, embedded within test models in a range of orientations relative to the shock front.Support from the UK Engineering&Physical Sciences Research Council and Dstl Fort Halstead through the MoD Joint Grants Scheme are acknowledged. Class I Gap-formation in Highly-viscous Glass-ionomer Restorations: Delayed vs Immediate Polishing

    Get PDF
This in vitro study evaluated the effects of delayed versus immediate polishing to permit maturation of interfacial gap-formation around highly viscous conventional glass-ionomer cement (HV-GIC) in Class I restorations, together with determining the associated mechanical properties. Cavity preparations were made on the occlusal surfaces of premolars. Three HV-GICs (Fuji IX GP, GlasIonomer FX-II and Ketac Molar) and one conventional glass-ionomer cement (C-GIC, Fuji II, as a control) were studied, with specimen subgroups (n=10) for each property measured. After polishing, either immediately (six minutes) after setting or after 24 hours storage, the restored teeth were sectioned in a mesiodistal direction through the center of the model Class I restorations. The presence or absence of interfacial-gaps was measured at 1000× magnification at 14 points (each 0.5-mm apart) along the cavity restoration interface (n=10; total points measured per group = 140). Marginal gaps were similarly measured in Teflon molds as swelling data, together with shear-bond-strength to enamel and dentin, flexural strength and moduli. For three HV-GICs and one C-GIC, significant differences (p<0.05) in gap-incidence were observed between polishing immediately and after one-day storage. In the former case, 80–100 gaps were found. In the latter case, only 9–21 gaps were observed. For all materials, their shear-bond-strengths, flexural strength and moduli increased significantly after 24-hour storage.</p
