    The Multipath Influence in Real-Time Kinematic of GNSS Observations at Different Antenna Heights

    Multipath is a dominant error source in Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) applications that reduces the position, time and velocity accuracy. Mitigation of such errors can be achieved by better signal processing and antenna design. This paper attempts to examine the different height of RTK system antenna with regards to the multipath error. The results obtained in this work show height significantly change of multipath in pseudo range (MP1) and multipath in the carrier phase (MP2). Different antenna height does not give the same multipath error result in the tests that we have conducted in this work. The optimal height of the antenna was achieved as two meters in order to obtain a minimum multipath error for   MP1 and MP2. At the end of this work, we experimentally proved that there is an inverse relationship between the height of the antenna and multipath with RTK algorithm

The aim of this study was to identify cranial shape differences between the crania of Byzantium period humans and modern humans. Variability in cranial shape was examined using the geometric morphometric technique based on landmark coordinates. Landmark coordinate data were collected from two-dimensional digital photogrammetry and were analyzed using generalized Procrustes analysis, hierarchical clustering and thin-plate spline analysis

    An epidermal inclusion cyst can be seen at any location. Epidermal cysts are commonly found on the scalp, face, trunk, neck, and extremities. They are rarely seen in the breast parenchyma. These benign lesions are important in that they may undergo neoplastic differentiation, although very rarely. Epidermoid cysts usually develop as a result of the implantation of superficial epidermal tissue into the dermis or subcutaneous tissue after trauma or surgical procedures.     Presence of Class I and Class II Integrons in Methicilin Resistant Staphylococci and Their Relations with Antibiotic Resistance: A Preliminary Study from Turkey

    Background: Emergence of antibiotic resistance is a major public health concern. It is known that antibiotic resistance is transferred by different ways. Integrons as one of these mechanisims cause to spread antibiotic resistance in Gram negative bacteria but also it is shown to be effective for transferring genes in Gram positive bacteria. In the present study we aimed to examine the prevalence of class I and class II integrons in MRSA and MRCNS strains isolated from patients and to determine the relationship between antibiotic resistance and the presence of integrons. Methods: Sixty four MRSA and 62 MRCNS strains were included in this study. Antibiotic susceptibility testings were performed. Genomic and plasmid DNAs were extracted and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was used for the detection of the intI and intII genes. The PCR products were visualised in 1.5 % agarose gel electrophoresis. Pearson chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test were used for comparing categorical variables. Results: Among 126 staphylococci 11 (8.7% - 4 MRSA and 7 MRCNS) were shown to carry class I integron; whereas 7 MRCNS (5.5%) were class II positive. Both of class I and class II integrons were detected to possess in four MRSA (3.2%). There was no statistically significant relation between presence of integrons and resistance to each of antibiotics (p>0.05). Conclusion & Recommendation: In the present study we did not find any significant relation between resistance rates and the presence of integrons but we suggest that these results showed an important data about the extended distributions of integrons not only among Gram negative bacteria but also in staphylococci.Keywords: MRSA, MRCNS, class I integron, class II integron, anbiotic resistanceDOI: 10.7176/JHMN/75-0

    A series of 2-[2-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino]benzyl-3-(5-substituted phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-3-yl-amino)-6,8-dibromoquinazolin-4(3H) ones 6a-m have been synthesized by the reaction of 2-[2-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino]benzyl-3-substituted phenylacrylamido-6,8-dibromoquinazolin-4(3H) ones 5a-m with hydrazine hydrate in the presence of glacial acetic acid. The chalcones 5a-m were prepared by the condensation of 2-[2-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino]benzyl-3-acetamido-6,8-dibromoquinazolin-4(3H)one 4 with different substituted aromatic aldehyde. The benzoxazinone 2 was synthesized from 2-[2-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino]phenyl acetyl chloride 1 on treatment with 3,5-dibromoanthranilic acid in pyridine, which on reaction with hydrazine hydrate and then on acetylation reaction yielded 4. The structures of these compounds have been elucidated by elemental analyses, IR, and NMR spectral data. The title compounds pyrazolyl-quinazolin-4(3H)ones 6a-m were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities in vitro

    Maternal Thyroid Dysfunction and Neonatal Thyroid Problems

    Aim. To investigate obstetric features of pregnant women with thyroid disorders and thyroid function tests of their newborn infants. Methods. Women with hypothyroidism and having anti-thyroglobulin (ATG) and anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies were assigned as group I, women with hypothyroidism who did not have autoantibodies were assigned as group II, and women without thyroid problems were assigned as group III. Results. Pregnant women with autoimmune hypothyroidism (group I) had more preterm delivery and their babies needed more frequent neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission. In group I, one infant was diagnosed with compensated hypothyroidism and one infant had transient hyperthyrotropinemia. Five infants (23.8%) in group II had thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels >20 mIU/mL. Only two of them had TSH level >7 mIU/L at the 3rd postnatal week, and all had normal free T4 (FT4). Median maternal TSH level of these five infants with TSH >20 mIU/mL was 6.6 mIU/mL. In group III, six infants (6.5%) had TSH levels above >20 mIU/mL at the 1st postnatal week. Conclusion. Infants of mothers with thyroid problems are more likely to have elevated TSH and higher recall rate on neonatal thyroid screening. Women with thyroid disorders and their newborn infants should be followed closely for both obstetrical problems and for thyroid dysfunction

    International nosocomial infection control consortium (INICC) report, data summary of 36 countries, for 2004-2009

    The results of a surveillance study conducted by the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) from January 2004 through December 2009 in 422 intensive care units (ICUs) of 36 countries in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Europe are reported. During the 6-year study period, using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN; formerly the National Nosocomial Infection Surveillance system [NNIS]) definitions for device-associated health care-associated infections, we gathered prospective data from 313,008 patients hospitalized in the consortium's ICUs for an aggregate of 2,194,897 ICU bed-days. Despite the fact that the use of devices in the developing countries' ICUs was remarkably similar to that reported in US ICUs in the CDC's NHSN, rates of device-associated nosocomial infection were significantly higher in the ICUs of the INICC hospitals; the pooled rate of central line-associated bloodstream infection in the INICC ICUs of 6.8 per 1,000 central line-days was more than 3-fold higher than the 2.0 per 1,000 central line-days reported in comparable US ICUs. The overall rate of ventilator-associated pneumonia also was far higher (15.8 vs 3.3 per 1,000 ventilator-days), as was the rate of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (6.3 vs. 3.3 per 1,000 catheter-days). Notably, the frequencies of resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates to imipenem (47.2% vs 23.0%), Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates to ceftazidime (76.3% vs 27.1%), Escherichia coli isolates to ceftazidime (66.7% vs 8.1%), Staphylococcus aureus isolates to methicillin (84.4% vs 56.8%), were also higher in the consortium's ICUs, and the crude unadjusted excess mortalities of device-related infections ranged from 7.3% (for catheter-associated urinary tract infection) to 15.2% (for ventilator-associated pneumonia).
