The aim of this study is to test whether sex prediction can be made by using machine learning algorithms (ML) with parameters taken from computerized tomography (CT) images of cranium and mandible skeleton which are known to be dimorphic. CT images of the cranium skeletons of 150 men and 150 women were included in the study. 25 parameters determined were tested with different ML algorithms. Accuracy (Acc), Specificity (Spe), Sensitivity (Sen), F1 score (F1), Matthews correlation coefficient (Mcc) values were included as performance criteria and Minitab 17 package program was used in descriptive statistical analyses. p <= 0.05 value was considered as statistically significant. In ML algorithms, the highest prediction was found with 0.90 Acc, 0.80 Mcc, 0.90 Spe, 0.90 Sen, 0.90 F1 values as a result of LR algorithms. As a result of confusion matrix, it was found that 27 of 30 males and 27 of 30 females were predicted correctly. Acc ratios of other MLs were found to be between 0.81 and 0.88. It has been concluded that the LR algorithm to be applied to the parameters obtained from CT images of the cranium skeleton will predict sex with high accuracy

    Treatment Modalities for Psychodermatological Diseases

    No full text
Although psychodermatologic diseases are diagnosed very easily, their treatment often poses a great deal since they are often associated with psychological conflicts and psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders and delusional disorders. Therefore dermatological treatment modalities might be insufficient for psychodermatologic diseases. Associations between dermatological and psychiatric diseases and their pathological basis need to be known very well for the treatment success. In case of treatment failure or insufficient treatment, the patient's psychological assessment should be considered and psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, biofeedback and hypnosis may need to be added to treatment plan. Psychopharmacologic, psychotherapeutic and other treatment modalities for treatment of psychodermatological diseases that are associated with psychological conflicts and comorbid major psychiatric diseases are reviewed in this article. Psychotherapeutic Methods of Coping with Stress in Everyday Life

    No full text
Stress is an inevitable part of life. Knowing the ways of coping with stress are necessary to preserve our mental and physical health and to maintain good social and/or occupational functioning in daily life activities. Different ways of coping with stress have been developed throughout history. Various type of therapies offer quite effective remedies for coping with stress in everyday life. Among psychotherapeutic treatments cognitive behavioral therapy which involves teaching stressful individuals to develop coping strategies have yielded very promising results. It is helpful to determine first whether stress source can be changed, several therapeutic approaches may then be used. Lazarus and Folkman have identified two major approaches for coping with stress so-called "problem-focused" and "emotion-focused". In "problem-focused" approaches targets are acquiring time management, self-monitoring, problem-solving skills, while in "emotion-focused" approaches, through ways of accepting or rejecting of stress associated negative emotions, or reconciling with these emotions, the target is learning how to keep emotions under control. "Problem-focused" and "emotion-focused" approaches may independently be used effectively in appropriate cases, their simultaneous practice may increase chances of successful treatment. Apart from this methods, psychodynamic therapy may be indicated in some cases. [JCBPR 2015; 4(3.000): 133-140

A case report of opposite sex twin pairs in which one had female to male gender dysphoria: the role of prenatal exposure to sex hormones in the etiology of gender dysphoria

    No full text
The etiology of gender dysphoria (GD) is not fully known. In recent years, there are studies suggesting that the development of GD is related to some biological mechanisms. The hypothesis conveying that there is a biological background in the development of GD emphasize the importance of exposure to sex hormones in prenatal period. According to this hypothesis, while prenatal exposure to sex hormones causes development of male identity, nonexposure results with female identity. This hypothesis is supported with determination of the relationship between prenatal exposure to testosterone and masculine behaviors, in complete androgen insensitivity syndrome mostly development of female identity, and presence of near values of 2nd and 4th finger ratio in individuals with GD and the individuals with the sex they want to pass. In this article, one of the twins is male and the other one is female-to-male GD case was discussed in terms of the roles of prenatal exposure to sex hormones in the etiology of GD

Shear behavior of glass fabric/epoxy resin composite prepared by surface treatments

    No full text
Unsized glass fabrics were subjected to low temperature plasma or silane coupling to modify the fiber and thus influence the interphase properties of the glass/epoxy system. Orthogonal Array Testing Strategy was used for determining optimal treatment conditions. Tetraethylorthosilicate was coated onto an unmodified glass surface. After plasma treatment, glass fabrics were characterized using surface energy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry. The interfacial shear strength (short-beam strength) of the glass fabric/epoxy composite was determined using the interlaminar shear strength by the short-beam method. Roughness and moisture capture capacity of plasma-treated samples increased. The most efficient interphase could be prepared by plasma treatment or wet-chemical processing using tetraethylorthosilicate monomer

Prolonged anorexia nervosa associated with female-to-male gender dysphoria: A case report

    No full text
Transsexual (TS) individuals seem to display an increased risk in having eating disorders. Several case reports describe TS individualswith anorexia nervosa (AN). In order to understand better the impact of gender dysphoria (GD) and hormonal/surgical treatments on the occurrence and course of eating disorders in TS patients long term follow-up studies are needed. We present here a 41-year-old female-to-male TS patient suffering from AN. History revealed that pathological eating habits could strongly be associated with her GD. Hormonal and surgical treatments resulted in substantial improvement in the given eating disorder. The impact of GD on the development and treatment of eating disorder is discussed in this report. Alternative test methods for assessing mechanical properties of disposable diapers

    No full text
It is essential to examine the mechanical properties of disposable diapers that contact the skin and affect the dermatitis of babies and infants. Until now, the KES-F system has been used to determine the mechanical properties of disposable diapers. In this study, alternative methods are used to measure the mechanical properties of disposable diapers. We examined, in both dry and wet conditions, the coefficient of friction (MIU), the mean deviation of coefficient of friction (MMD), and the surface roughness (SMD) obtained from the friction tests, the compressional energy (WC), the compressional resilience (RC), and the linearity of compression curve (LC) obtained from the compression tests, the coefficient of heat transfer (K), and the maximum value of heat flux (q) obtained from the heat transfer tests, and the thickness (T) and the weight (W) obtained from the construction tests. The KES-F system has also been used for compression and friction tests for comparative reason. The contents of leakage performance were tested with wetback, absorption area, absorption capacity and retention capacity tests. After wetting, it appeared that while the MIU, MMD, SMD, and LC values increase, the RC values decrease in both the KES-F system and alternative methods. The results obtained from the KES-F system and the alternative methods demonstrate different characteristics, due to the differences in measurement techniques
