Generating Neutrino Mass in the 331 Model

    Get PDF
A mechanism for generating small tree-level Majorana mass for neutrinos is implemented in the 331 Model. No additional fermions or scalars need to be added, and no mass scale greater than a few TeV is invoked.Comment: LaTex, 7 pages, no figures. Revised version to appear in Phys. Rev.

Two-body ZZ' decays in the minimal 331 model

The two-body decays of the extra neutral boson Z_2 predicted by the minimal 331 model are analyzed. At the three-level it can decay into standard model particles as well as exotic quarks and the new gauge bosons predicted by the model. The decays into a lepton pair are strongly suppressed, with Br(Z2>l+l) 102Br(Z_2 --> l^+l^-) ~ 10^{-2} and Br(Z2>νˉlν) 103Br(Z_2 --> \bar{\nu}_l \nu) ~ 10^{-3}. In the bosonic sector, Z_2 would decay mainly into a pair of bilepton gauge bosons, with a branching ratio below the 0.1 level. The Z_2 boson has thus a leptophobic and bileptophobic nature and it would decay dominantly into quark pairs. The anomaly-induced decays Z2>Z1γZ_2 --> Z_1\gamma and Z2>Z1Z1Z_2 --> Z_1Z_1, which occurs at the one-loop level are studied. It is found that Br(Z2>Z1γ) 109Br(Z_2 --> Z_1\gamma) ~ 10^{-9} and Br(Z2>Z1Z1) 106Br(Z_2 --> Z_1Z_1) ~ 10^{-6} at most. As for the Z2>W+WZ_2 --> W^+W^- and Z2>Z1HZ_2 --> Z_1H decays, with H a relatively light Higgs boson, they are induced via Z'-Z mixing. It is obtained that Br(Z2>W+W) 102Br(Z_2 --> W^+W^-) ~ 10^{-2} and Br(Z2>Z1H) 105Br (Z_2 --> Z_1H) ~ 10^{-5}. We also examine the flavor changing neutral current decays Z2>tcZ_2 --> tc and Z2>tuZ_2 --> tu, which may have branching fractions as large as 10310^{-3} and 10510^{-5}, respectively, and thus may be of phenomenological interest.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Physical Review

The seesaw mechanism at TeV scale in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos

We implement the seesaw mechanism in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos. This is accomplished by the introduction of a scalar sextet into the model and the spontaneous violation of the lepton number. We identify the Majoron as a singlet under SUL(2)UY(1)SU_L(2)\otimes U_Y(1) symmetry, which makes it safe under the current bounds imposed by electroweak data. The main result of this work is that the seesaw mechanism works already at TeV scale with the outcome that the right-handed neutrino masses lie in the electroweak scale, in the range from MeV to tens of GeV. This window provides a great opportunity to test their appearance at current detectors, though when we contrast our results with some previous analysis concerning detection sensitivity at LHC, we conclude that further work is needed in order to validate this search.Comment: about 13 pages, no figure

Neutrino masses through see-saw mechanism in 3-3-1 models

Some years ago it was shown by Ma that in the context of the electroweak standard model there are, at the tree level, only three ways to generate small neutrino masses by the see-saw mechanism via one effective dimension-five operator. Here we extend this approach to 3-3-1 chiral models showing that in this case there are several dimension-five operators and we also consider their tree level realization.Comment: RevTex, 7 pages and 4 .eps figures. Subject-specific multiporoelastic model for exploring the risk factors associated with the early stages of Alzheimer's disease

    Get PDF
There is emerging evidence suggesting that Alzheimer’s disease is a vascular disorder, caused by impaired cerebral perfusion, which may be promoted by cardiovascular risk factors that are strongly influenced by lifestyle. In order to develop an understanding of the exact nature of such a hypothesis, a biomechanical understanding of the influence of lifestyle factors is pursued. An extended poroelastic model of perfused parenchymal tissue coupled with separate workflows concerning subject-specific meshes, permeability tensor maps and cerebral blood flow (CBF) variability is utilised. The subject-specific datasets used in the modelling of this paper were collected as part of prospective data collection. Two cases were simulated involving male, non-smokers (control and MCI case) during two states of activity (high and low). Results showed a marginally reduced clearance of CSF/ISF, elevated parenchymal tissue displacement and CSF/ISF accumulation and drainage in the MCI case. Peak perfusion remained at 8 mm/s between the two cases

Stability of the Scalar Potential and Symmetry Breaking in the Economical 3-3-1 Model

    Get PDF
A detailed study of the criteria for stability of the scalar potential and the proper electroweak symmetry breaking pattern in the economical 3-3-1 model, is presented. For the analysis we use, and improve, a method previously developed to study the scalar potential in the two-Higgs-doublet extension of the standard model. A new theorem related to the stability of the potential is stated. As a consequence of this study, the consistency of the economical 3-3-1 model emerges.Comment: to be published in EPJ C, 13 page

I present various projects to study the halo dynamics of elliptical galaxies. This allows one to study the outer mass and orbital distributions of ellipticals in different environments, and the inner distributions of groups and clusters themselves.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figs, to appear in Proc. 3-3-1 Models at Electroweak Scale

    Get PDF
We show that in 3-3-1 models there exist a natural relation among the SU(3)LSU(3)_L coupling constant gg, the electroweak mixing angle θW\theta_W, the mass of the WW, and one of the vacuum expectation values, which implies that those models can be realized at low energy scales and, in particular, even at the electroweak scale. So that, being that symmetries realized in Nature, new physics may be really just around the corner.Comment: 10 pages, version to be published in Physics Letters

Seesaw tau lepton mass and calculable neutrino masses in a 3-3-1 model

In a version of the 3-3-1 model proposed by Duong and Ma the introduction of the scalar sextet for giving mass to the charged leptons is avoided by adding a singlet charged lepton. We show that in this case the τ\tau lepton gains mass through a seesaw--like mechanism. Besides we show how to generate neutrino masses at the tree and at the 1-loop level with the respective Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata leptonic mixing matrices.Comment: revtex, 5 pages and one eps figure.
