In he title compound, C16H13Br4N, the carbazole skeleton is nearly planar [maximum deviation = 0.026 (4) Å] and makes a dihedral angle of 73.8 (4)° with the butyl chain. The butyl chain adopts a trans conformation. In the crystal, molecules are linked by π–π stacking interactions [centroid–centroid distance = 3.559 (2) Å]

The study of the negative pion production in neutron-proton collisions at beam momenta below 1.8 GeV/c

A detailed investigation of the reaction np -> pp\pi^{-} has been carried out using the data obtained with the continuous neutron beam produced by charge exchange scattering of protons off a deuterium target. A partial wave event-by-event based maximum likelihood analysis was applied to determine contributions of different partial waves to the pion production process. The combined analysis of the np -> pp\pi^{-} and pp -> pp\pi^{0} data measured in the same energy region allows us to determine the contribution of isoscalar partial waves (I=0) in the momentum range from 1.1 up to 1.8 GeV/c. The decay of isoscalar partial waves into (^1S_0)_{pp}\pi$ channel provides a good tool for a determination of the pp S-wave scalar scattering length in the final state which was found to be a_{pp}=-7.5\pm 0.3 fm.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

Development of miracle medicines from sialic acids

    Get PDF
Sialic acids are electronegatively charged C9-sugars and are considered to play important roles in higher animals and some microorganisms. Denoting their significance, understanding and exploiting the complexity of the sialic acids has been referred to as the “the third language of life”. In essence, “sialic acid derivatives possess a harmonious shape and good balance between two opposing hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts, meaning that they should display various kinds of potentially unique and possibly conflicting physiological activities (glycolipoids)”. Consequently, there are good omens that unprecedented ‘miracle’ medicines could be developed from sialic acid derivatives. In this review, the first problem, the preparation of sialic acids, is covered, the synthesis of sialic acid derivatives and confirmation of their structures obviously being of critical significance. In addition we needed to confirm their precise stereochemistry and a hydrolysis method has been developed for confirmation of the anomeric position. Several of the compounds have already demonstrated interesting bioactivity

Time-Dependent CP Asymmetries in B0 -> Ks pi0 gamma transitions

We report measurements of CP violation parameters in B0->Ks pi0 gamma transitions based on a data sample of 535x10^6 BB pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. One neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in the B0->Ks pi0 gamma mode. The flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified from its decay products. For a Ks pi0 invariant mass up to 1.8 GeV/c^2, we obtain S = -0.10 +- 0.31 +- 0.07 and A = -0.20 +- 0.20 +- 0.06. For a Ks pi0 invariant mass near the K*0(892) resonance, we obtain S = -0.32 +0.36-0.33 +-0.05 and A=-0.20 +-0.24 +-0.05.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, accepted by PR

Study of B meson decays to three-body charmless hadronic final states

We report results of a study of charmless B meson decays to three-body KPiPi, KKPi and KKK final states. Measurements of branching fractions for B decays to K+0Pi+Pi-, K+K+K-, K0K+K-, KsKsK+ and KsKsKs final states are presented. The decays B0=>K0K+K-, B+=>KsKsK+ and B0=>KsKsKs are observed for the first time. We also report evidence for B+=>K+K-Pi+ decay. For the three-body final states K0K+K-, KsKsPi+, K+K+Pi- and K-Pi+Pi+ 90% confidence level upper limits are reported. Finally, we discuss the possibility of using the three-body B0=>KsK+K- decay for CP violation studies. The results are obtained with a 78 fb^-1 data sample collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e- collider.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures. Measurement of Inclusive Radiative B-meson Decays with a Photon Energy Threshold of 1.7 GeV

Using 605/fb of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance we present a measurement of the inclusive radiative B-meson decay channel, B to X_s gamma. For the lower photon energy thresholds of 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0GeV, as defined in the rest frame of the B-meson, we measure the partial branching fraction and the mean and variance of the photon energy spectrum. At the 1.7GeV threshold we obtain the partial branching fraction BF(B to X_s gamma) = (3.45 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.40) x 10^-4, where the errors are statistical and systematic.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, 2 table

Performance studies of the Belle II Silicon Vertex Detector with data taken at the DESY test beam in April 2016

    Get PDF
Belle II is a multipurpose detector currently under construction which will be operated at the next generation B-factory SuberKEKB in Japan. Its main devices for the vertex reconstruction are the Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD) and the Pixel Detector (PXD). In April 2016 a sector of the Belle II SVD and PXD have been tested in a beam of high energetic electrons at the test beam facility at DESY Hamburg (Germany). We report here the results for the hit efficiency estimation and the measurement of the resolution for the Belle II silicon vertex etector. We find that the hit efficiencies are on average above 99.5% and that the measured resolution is within the expectations

Observation of B_s to phi gamma and Search for B_s to gamma gamma Decays at Belle

We search for the radiative penguin decays B_s to phi gamma and B_s to gamma gamma in a 23.6 fb-1 data sample collected at the Upsilon(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- asymmetric-energy collider. We observe for the first time a radiative penguin decay of the B_s meson in the B_s to phi gamma mode. No significant B_s to gamma gamma signal is observed.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Physics Review Letter
