The aim of this article is to make some observations concerning the use of the Greek language in Christian Nubia, based on the study of two funerary steles inscribed with the ‘Euchologion Mega’, a type of prayer for the dead. The article focuses on five remarks derived from the examination of the aforementioned material. The conclusion drawn underlines the need for a study of the individual variants of the prayer’s formula and pleads for the continuation of similar research.

Physical Therapy Management For A Patient With Low Back Pain Utilizing Medical Exercise Therapy

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common and costly musculoskeletal diagnosis in America. Approximately 50% of individuals with LBP have recurrent episodes by 1 year, 60% by 2 years and 70% by 5 years. Multiple studies have been inclusive determining a gold standard for cost effective long term outcomes. MET therapy focuses on early functional activity to relieve pain and restore normal movement. Early functional activity is made possible by using counter weights to obtain required range of motion. This system of unloading gives the patient the opportunity to perform exercises in a functional manner. The first phase involves graded exercises to normalize a pathological condition as well as getting rid of pain. In phase two the patient is symptom free and exercise is graded as compared to the patient’s daily activity. Generally treatment lasts for an hour and, exercise are done at 3 sets of 30 repetitions. Low weight is used to compliment the high sets and low reps as a way to condition the muscles and joints in a functional way. Purpose: The purpose of this case report is to show how MET therapy can be used as an intervention for LBP specifically, non radicular LBP.https://dune.une.edu/pt_studcrposter/1016/thumbnail.jp

Oral health inequalities and the COVID-19 pandemic: time for action

    Get PDF
Over the last years, the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced a major public health crisis globally that societies have struggled to address irrespective of the approach followed. The different aspects of the crisis and how it has been handled from the point of view of social epidemiology, do not offer a positive reading. One key "message" has been that we are "all in it together". This implies a socially neutral phenomenon, yet there is clear evidence of stark socioeconomic and ethnic inequalities with disproportionate burden of the pandemic among the more deprived groups in the society (Marmot, 2020). And this has taken place in the background of already well-established health inequalities that have further increased over the last decade (Marmot et al., 2020). At the same time, addressing inequalities has been a central piece of government and societal health policy objectives

Treatment needs and skill mix workforce requirements for prosthodontic care: a comparison of estimates using normative and sociodental approaches.

The traditional measure for assessing dental treatment needs and workforce requirements based solely on normative need (NN) has major shortcomings. The sociodental approach (SDA) to assess needs overcomes some of the shortcomings as it combines normative and subjective needs assessments and also incorporates behavioural propensity (Sheiham and Tsakos 2007). The objective of this study was to estimate and compare prosthodontic treatment needs and workforce requirements, using the normative and the sociodental approaches for different skill mix models

Miscellanea Epigraphica Nubica V: El nombre de las cuatro criaturas del apocalipsis en la Nubia cristiana

The fifth paper in the series brings the focus onto the inscriptions accompanying the famous wall paintings from Christian Nubia, more particularly the legends naming the Four Creatures of the Apocalypse. The identification of a very probable source of inspiration for the particular names used in Nubia turns the attention to the ritual power of such names and the role of orality in the transmission of such textual traditions.El quinto artículo de la serie está centrado en las inscripciones que acompañan a las famosas pinturas murales de la Nubia cristiana, concretamente las leyendas de nombres de las Cuatro Criaturas del Apocalipsis. Assessing Biochar’s Potential to Curb Salt Pollution in Freshwater Systems

    Get PDF
Road salt pollution in the Great Lakes region has been steadily increasing in aquatic systems due to urban sprawl and road safety concerns. Excessive road salt (measured as Cl- mg/L) impacts water quality adjacent to roadside ecosystems by increasing electro- conductivity and altering soil solution osmotic gradients, thus rendering habitats inhospitable for native plants and animals. To date, few mitigation strategies exist to manage salinity in freshwater streams, lakes, and wetlands. Biochar, the by-product of heating organic waste in low oxygen environments, has gained attention as a soil amendment that improves terrestrial systems with degraded agricultural and saline soils. Biochar research indicates highly porous surfaces with high cation exchange capacity that can effectively buffer pH and improve nutrient retention. In aquatic systems with highly saline water infiltration, biochar’s role as a salt adsorption filter has not been assessed. The ISGS General Water Quality Standard for surface waters is 500mg Cl- /L. During spring run-off, roadside ditches in IL have measure peak chloride values at 6,000mg Cl- /liter. In this exploratory study, I investigated biochar’s capacity to filter Na+ & Cl- ions from a saline solution at peak run-off collected over 12L
