    Get PDF
Purpose: The study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the creative capacity of young lecturers in the Vietnamese higher education system.   Theoretical framework: Creativity is the creation of new and helpful ideas in the field of science, art, business, and everyday activities (Amabile, 1996; Amabile, 1997). According to Woodman et al. (1993), creativity is the creation of new products, services, ideas, procedures, or processes that are useful and valuable. Kreitner & Kinicki (2004) argued that creativity is defined as the process of using imagination and skills to develop a new, unique idea, product, or process. Creativity is a difficult concept to define, researchers do not fully agree with any single definition (DiLiello & Houghton, 2006).   Design/methodology/approach: An official survey was conducted from March to April 2022. The selected subjects are young lecturers (under 40 years old) working at 15 universities in the higher education system in Vietnam. The number of survey questionnaires achieved was 328, and applying structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the research hypotheses.   Findings: The research has pointed out four factors that have positive impacts on the creative capacity of young lecturers, including intrinsic motivation, creative self-efficacy, thinking style, and the support environment. Among these, intrinsic motivation is the factor that has the most influence on the creative ability of young lecturers.   Research, Practical & Social implications: Several managerial implications are proposed to promote the creativity of young lecturers. Firstly, universities should have policies to encourage young lecturers to accept challenges and come up with new ideas. Secondly, universities should build a system to receive, evaluate, support, and provide practical suggestions for creative ideas from young lecturers. Thirdly, universities should develop a policy of recognizing and rewarding their efforts.   Originality/value: In general, the study has achieved the set goals. The study has demonstrated four factors affecting the creative capacity of young lecturers in the higher education system in Vietnam. All these factors have a positive impact on creative capacity

Difficulties of Vietnamese Students in Learning Academic Writing

    Get PDF
Writing is consistently regarded as one of the most challenging language-learning abilities. This paper investigates the challenges Vietnamese students face in learning academic writing in English. Ninety-five students from grades 6 to 12 who have been studying English for several years were surveyed using a questionnaire. The questionnaire comprised 14 Likert-scale statements and one multiple-choice question to determine their interests, habits, and perspectives toward learning English. Most participants expressed a keen interest in learning languages but felt that their writing skills in English were not up to par, attributing this to inadequate time spent practicing. As a result, it is suggested that secondary school students in Vietnam increase their writing practice time in English and alter their learning routines and habits accordingly

Accumulation and variation of rosmarinic acid content in Orthosiphon stamineus Benth. based on phenological stages

    Get PDF
Orthosiphon Stamineus Benth. (Lamiaceae) is a medicinal herb trusted for many centuries for treating ailments of the kidney, bladder stone, urinary tract infection, liver and bladder problems, diabetes, rheumatism and gout. It is also used to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. Rosmarinic acid is one of the most important and specific active compound in O. stamineus. The biological effects of rosmarinic acid have been proved. In the research, plant material was harvested at different phenological stages (before budding, full flowering, and after flowering) of the life cycle of the species. The content of rosmarinic acid in samples was measured using HPLC method. Results showed that the accumulation of rosmarinic acid in leaf was higher than that in other organs. The content of rosmarinic acid was increased gradually from before budding stage to flowering stage and reached the maximum content at time of after flowering stage. The content of rosmarinic acid of the 2nd variety was higher than that of the 1st variety at the same time (p 0.05)

    Get PDF
With the severe impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the educational systems have to be reformed and evolved. Blended synchronous learning has become an attractive tendency in education worldwide as the technology has mushroomed recently and attracts a vast number of users and researchers. Therefore, the current study was conducted to investigate students’ overall perceptions of blended synchronous learning as well as its benefits and challenges. 163 participants in the study have experienced ENT courses in a blended synchronous learning environment for 105 hours within 7 weeks. The instrument employed in the quantitative phase was 27 items adapted from studies by Rahman et al. (2015), López-Pérez et al. (2011), and Wu et al. (2010). Additionally, semi-structured interviews were used to have a deeper understanding of the research issues. Results indicate that more than half of participants had good perceptions about the blended synchronous learning environment and perceived various benefits as well as challenges of it. Moreover, these findings are supplemented with illustrative quotes from interview transcripts to compare and contrast with previous findings reported in the literature, and therefore this study contributes to the field by offering the learners\u27 voices

Area yield crop insurance in Vietnam : an analysis from the demand side

    Get PDF
When setting prices for each province, crop insurance companies should pay more attention to the relative level of basic risk and the correlation of losses across regions, instead of only focusing on the general level of risk exposure of each region. If farmers receive enough information about the insurance, the demand should be higher than the current rate of uptake. This study analyzes the demand of rice farmers for area yield crop insurance, which was designed and piloted during the period of 2011 - 2013 in Vietnam according to Decision No. 315/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister

HierarchyNet : learning to summarize source code with heterogeneous representations

    Get PDF
Code representation is important to machine learning models in the code-related applications. Existing code summarization approaches primarily leverage Abstract Syntax Trees (ASTs) and sequential information from source code to generate code summaries while often overlooking the critical consideration of the interplay of dependencies among code elements and code hierarchy. However, effective summarization necessitates a holistic analysis of code snippets from three distinct aspects: lexical, syntactic, and semantic information. In this paper, we propose a novel code summarization approach utilizing Heterogeneous Code Representations (HCRs) and our specially designed HierarchyNet. HCRs adeptly capture essential code features at lexical, syntactic, and semantic levels within a hierarchical structure. HierarchyNet processes each layer of the HCR separately, employing a Heterogeneous Graph Transformer, a Tree-based CNN, and a Transformer Encoder. In addition, HierarchyNet demonstrates superior performance compared to fine-tuned pre-trained models, including CodeT5, and CodeBERT, as well as large language models that employ zero/few-shot settings, such as CodeLlama, StarCoder, and CodeGen. Implementation details can be found at https://github.com/FSoft-AI4Code/HierarchyNet

Gold(I)-doped films: new routes for efficient room temperature phosphorescent materials

The synthesis of four novel gold(I)-phosphane complexes coordinated to 9-phenanthrene chromophore has been carried out through the reaction of 9-phenanthreneboronic acid and the corresponding AuClPR3 (PR3 = PPh3 for triphenylphosphane (1a); 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)butane or dppb (2b); bis(diphenylphosphanyl)acetylene or dppa (2c); (AuCl)2(diphos) (diphos = bis(diphenylphosphanyl)methane or dppm (3)) sources. The X-ray crystal structures of compounds 1a and 2b show the existence of MOF-like intermolecular assemblies that contain empty inner cavities in the absence of aurophilic contacts. In contrast, the formation of a tetranuclear complex with intramolecular aurophilic interactions was evidenced for 3. Photophysical characterization indicates dual emission in all gold(I) complexes when oxygen is removed from the sample, while only fluorescence emission is recorded for the uncoordinated ligand. The introduction of the compounds within PMMA and Zeonex was assayed, and luminescent films containing gold(I) complexes where phosphorescence is the sole pathway for emission are obtained, instead of the dual emission (with significant fluorescence contribution) recorded in solution
