Ground state properties of a one-dimensional condensate of hard core bosons in a harmonic trap
The exact N-particle ground state wave function for a one-dimensional
condensate of hard core bosons in a harmonic trap is employed to obtain
accurate numerical results for the one-particle density matrix, occupation
number distribution of the natural orbitals, and momentum distribution. Our
results show that the occupation of the lowest orbital varies as N^{0.59}, in
contrast to N^{0.5} for a spatially uniform system, and N for a true BEC.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Efficacy and Safety of Ezetimibe Added to Atorvastatin Versus Atorvastatin Uptitration or Switching to Rosuvastatin in Patients With Primary Hypercholesterolemia
Hypercholesterolemic patients (n = 1,547) at high atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels 65100 and 64160 mg/dl while treated with atorvastatin 10 mg/day entered a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled, clinical trial using two 6-week study periods. Period I compared the efficacy/safety of (1) adding ezetimibe 10 mg (ezetimibe) to stable atorvastatin 10 mg, (2) doubling atorvastatin to 20 mg, or (3) switching to rosuvastatin 10 mg. Subjects in the latter 2 groups who persisted with elevated LDL-C levels ( 65100 and 64160 mg/dl) after period I, entered period II; subjects on atorvastatin 20 mg had ezetimibe added to their atorvastatin 20 mg, or uptitrated their atorvastatin to 40 mg; subjects on rosuvastatin 10 mg switched to atorvastatin 20 mg plus ezetimibe or uptitrated their rosuvastatin to 20 mg. Some subjects on atorvastatin 10 mg plus ezetimibe continued the same treatment into period II. At the end of period I, ezetimibe plus atorvastatin 10 mg reduced LDL-C significantly more than atorvastatin 20 mg or rosuvastatin 10 mg (22.2% vs 9.5% or 13.0%, respectively, p <0.001). At the end of period II, ezetimibe plus atorvastatin 20 mg reduced LDL-C significantly more than atorvastatin 40 mg (17.4% vs 6.9%, p <0.001); switching from rosuvastatin 10 mg to ezetimibe plus atorvastatin 20 mg reduced LDL-C significantly more than uptitrating to rosuvastatin 20 mg (17.1% vs 7.5%, p <0.001). Relative to comparative treatments, ezetimibe added to atorvastatin 10 mg (period I) or atorvastatin 20 mg (period II) produced significantly greater percent attainment of LDL-C targets <100 or <70 mg/dl, and significantly greater percent reductions in total cholesterol, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, most lipid and lipoprotein ratios, and apolipoprotein B (except ezetimibe plus atorvastatin 20 vs atorvastatin 40 mg). Reports of adverse experiences were generally similar among groups. In conclusion, treatment of hypercholesterolemic subjects at high cardiovascular risk with ezetimibe added to atorvastatin 10 or 20 mg produced significantly greater improvements in key lipid parameters and significantly greater attainment of LDL-C treatment targets than doubling atorvastatin or switching to (or doubling) rosuvastatin at the compared doses
Short Prolegomena of a »Right to a Home« in the Consumer Bankruptcy Act
The identity crisis of a »welfare state» model has raised a number of questions for theorists and practitioners. These problems, of course, have not surpassed the system of consumer bankruptcy protection which has the primary objective - economic and social »rehabilitation« of consumers and which is differentia specifica in relation to the primary objective of corporate bankruptcy â settlement of creditors. The scope of this paper does not permit a detailed analysis of these issues, and we are forced to limit ourselves exclusively to one of the key issues of the new consumer bankruptcy law: the right to a home. We specifically analyze the practice of the European Court of Human Rights (hereinafter: European Court) in proceedings under Art. 8 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms ("Right to a Home") because we assume that it is a key to understanding the paper subject, as well as to the proper application of the institute of âright to a homeâ. With respect to the foregoing, in order to have a comprehensive answer to the subject, the structure and concept of paper had to be adjusted. This paper could have been divided into three parts, but it has not been formally done
Lipidomics Analysis Reveals Efficient Storage of Hepatic Triacylglycerides Enriched in Unsaturated Fatty Acids after One Bout of Exercise in Mice
Background: Endurance exercise induces lipolysis, increases circulating concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA) and the uptake and oxidation of fatty acids in the working muscle. Less is known about the regulation of lipid metabolism in the liver during and post-exercise
Effects of extended-release niacin/laropiprant on correlations between apolipoprotein B, LDL-cholesterol and non-HDL-cholesterol in patients with type 2 diabetes
Iconografia cristallolisica di ematite del basamento sedimentario etneo
The basal faces of large platy hematite crystals from the sedimentary basement of Etna exhibit plenty of well known crystal growth patterns: short regular tongue-like terraces, different kinds of spirals, more or less poligonized, triangular structures. Previous step heights measurements of some of these patterns were made by precision multiple beam interference, whilst high precision phase contrast microscopy helped to determine the sequence of crystal growth patterns and led to argue about environmental evolution, whose late stage was characterized by a stern undersaturation. This last yelded plain explanation of the final short but intense dissolution suffered by hematite, whose basal faces were lastly etched and a new type of etch figure appeared: they consist of long wavy tongues, composed by innumerable steps of extreme fineness, that permitted more precise step heights measurements: 2.30 - 6.83 - 13.68 - 20.55 - 27.50 - 34.74 - 41.30 - 48.10 amstrong (higher values were note performed). All measured values are integral multiples of the smallest value 2.30 A. This, in turn, is the same order of magnitude of hematite.
Hence the fundamental model followed by hematite dissolution process is explained and it is quite reasonable to expect that also the growth process of hematite is, at least in part, governed by spirals of a step height of 2.3 amstrong
