    A prática pedagógica do gestor democrático no ambiente escolar e a construção do projeto pedagógico de apoio: estudo de caso na escola estadual de ensino fundamental "Mário Carneiro de Miranda"

    O objetivo geral foi relatar e analisar em que a experiência do Projeto Pedagógico de Apoio (PPA) da Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental “Mário Carneiro de Miranda” nos anos de 2007-2008 contribuiu na organização do processo ensino aprendizagem e na formação de leitores e escritores competentes. Os objetivos específicos foram analisar como a organização do trabalho pedagógico escolar possibilitou nos educandos a intervenção por meio de experiências significativas de aprendizagem; verificar como o Projeto Pedagógico de Apoio contribui para obtenção de dados concretos do caminho percorrido pelo aluno no processo da aprendizagem no foco da leitura e escrita; avaliar como foram detectadas as causas e consequências do fracasso escolar no foco da leitura e escrita e como o Projeto Pedagógico de Apoio passou a intervir como estratégia de avaliação diagnóstica do processo leitura e escrita; descrever como prática pedagógica, adquirida pelo papel do professor integrador levou-o a uma indagação sistemática e autocrítica sobre o que ocorre na sala de aula; conhecer como as estratégias de intervenção pedagógicas propostas no Projeto Pedagógico de Apoio pôde aprimorar o ato de aprender a aprender por meio de todo o processo interventivo com foco na leitura e escrita e apresentar uma análise crítica sobre o processo interventivo realizado pelo Projeto Pedagógico de Apoio dentro da realidade de uma escola pública que busca a prática de uma ação pedagógica significativa. A metodologia utilizada foi quali-quantitativa a partir da aplicação de questionários aos participantes da escola. Observou-se que este instrumento melhorou consideravelmente o entendimento do professor quanto ao aprendizado do aluno, pois a partir de uma avaliação prévia o professor vê e entende o que o aluno está compreendendo e assim passa a desenvolver um trabalho mais próximo quanto ao entendimento da escrita e leitura; ABSTRACT:The overall objective was to report and analyze the experience of the Educational Project Support (PPA) of the State School of Basic Education "Mário Carneiro de Miranda" in the years 2007 to 2008 helped organize the learning process and training of readers and competent writers. The methodology was qualitative and quantitative from the questionnaires to the participants of the school. It was observed that this instrument has considerably improved the understanding of teacher and student learning, because from a preliminary assessment the teacher sees and understands what the student is understanding and so will develop a closer working on the understanding of written and reading

    Immunothrombosis and COVID-19 ‒ a nested post-hoc analysis from a 3186 patient cohort in a Latin American public reference hospital

    Objective: COVID-19 is associated with an elevated risk of thromboembolism and excess mortality. Difficulties with best anticoagulation practices and their implementation motivated the current analysis of COVID-19 patients who developed Venous Thromboembolism (VTE). Method: This is a post-hoc analysis of a COVID-19 cohort, described in an economic study already published. The authors analyzed a subset of patients with confirmed VTE. We described the characteristics of the cohort, such as demographics, clinical status, and laboratory results. We tested differences amid two subgroups of patients, those with VTE or not, with the competitive risk Fine and Gray model. Results: Out of 3186 adult patients with COVID-19, 245 (7.7%) were diagnosed with VTE, 174 (5.4%) of them during admission to the hospital. Four (2.3% of these 174) did not receive prophylactic anticoagulation and 19 (11%) discontinued anticoagulation for at least 3 days, resulting in 170 analyzed. During the first week of hospitalization, the laboratory most altered results were C-reactive protein and D-dimer. Patients with VTE were more critical, had a higher mortality rate, worse SOFA score, and, on average, 50% longer hospital stay. Conclusion: Proven VTE incidence in this severe COVID-19 cohort was 7.7%, despite 87% of them complying completely with VTE prophylaxis. The clinician must be aware of the diagnosis of VTE in COVID-19, even in patients receiving proper prophylaxis

    Use and misuse of biomarkers and the role of D-dimer and C-reactive protein in the management of COVID-19: A post-hoc analysis of a prospective cohort study

    OBJECTIVE: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with high mortality among hospitalized patients and incurs high costs. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection can trigger both inflammatory and thrombotic processes, and these complications can lead to a poorer prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association and temporal trends of D-dimer and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels with the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE), hospital mortality, and costs among inpatients with COVID-19. METHODS: Data were extracted from electronic patient records and laboratory databases. Crude and adjusted associations for age, sex, number of comorbidities, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score at admission, and D-dimer or CRP logistic regression models were used to evaluate associations. RESULTS: Between March and June 2020, COVID-19 was documented in 3,254 inpatients. The D-dimer level ≥4,000 ng/mL fibrinogen equivalent unit (FEU) mortality odds ratio (OR) was 4.48 (adjusted OR: 1.97). The CRP level ≥220 mg/dL OR for death was 7.73 (adjusted OR: 3.93). The D-dimer level ≥4,000 ng/mL FEU VTE OR was 3.96 (adjusted OR: 3.26). The CRP level ≥220 mg/dL OR for VTE was 2.71 (adjusted OR: 1.92). All these analyses were statistically significant (p<0.001). Stratified hospital costs demonstrated a dose-response pattern. Adjusted D-dimer and CRP levels were associated with higher mortality and doubled hospital costs. In the first week, elevated D-dimer levels predicted VTE occurrence and systemic inflammatory harm, while CRP was a hospital mortality predictor. CONCLUSION: D-dimer and CRP levels were associated with higher hospital mortality and a higher incidence of VTE. D-dimer was more strongly associated with VTE, although its discriminative ability was poor, while CRP was a stronger predictor of hospital mortality. Their use outside the usual indications should not be modified and should be discouraged

    Organizando-se agora no formato de número duplo, de modo a comportar dois números por ano, a revista digital Convocarte – Revista de Ciências da Arte mantém o mesmo propósito de promover o debate e edição de questões artísticas no espaço universitário, mantendo as coordenadas dominantes: convocar um número de especialistas em torno de um tema do mundo das artes, integrar trabalhos relevantes desenvolvidos nas fases curriculares e de projecto em mestrados e doutoramentos, sobretudo da FBAUL, e publicar trabalhos desenvolvidos em linhas de investigação do CIEBA. Assim, embora de funcionamento afecto à área científica de Ciências da Arte e do Património a Convocarte está aberta a outras especialidades interessadas em contribuir para a reflexão sobre as artes em geral, incorporando ensaios de predomínio teórico enraizado nos mais predominantes modos de discurso sobre arte, tais como História da arte, Crítica de Arte, Estética, Teorias da Arte ou Curadoria. (...) O nº2 organizou-se em torno de uma homenagem a uma figura importante das teorias da arte em Portugal, estratégia que Convocarte procurará manter nos próximos números. A intenção será deixar estudos sistematizados, entre o depoimento ou o ensaio, a memória e a reflexão, que estudem figuras marcantes da cultura portuguesa. (...) Neste número essa pasta foi dedicada a Rui Mário Gonçalves. Os textos são o resultado de uma sessão especial alargada a 2 de Maio no âmbito dos 2ºs Encontros com Críticos de Arte, com organização e coordenação de Fernando Rosa Dias, Cristina Tavares e Viviane Soares Silva, e decorridos ao longo das segundas do mês de Maio de 2016 na FBAUL (http://convocarte.belasartes.ulisboa.pt/index.php/2016/04/29/2o-encontros-com-criticos-de-arte/#more-325).     Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research

    Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.     Mapping density, diversity and species-richness of the Amazon tree flora

    Using 2.046 botanically-inventoried tree plots across the largest tropical forest on Earth, we mapped tree species-diversity and tree species-richness at 0.1-degree resolution, and investigated drivers for diversity and richness. Using only location, stratified by forest type, as predictor, our spatial model, to the best of our knowledge, provides the most accurate map of tree diversity in Amazonia to date, explaining approximately 70% of the tree diversity and species-richness. Large soil-forest combinations determine a significant percentage of the variation in tree species-richness and tree alpha-diversity in Amazonian forest-plots. We suggest that the size and fragmentation of these systems drive their large-scale diversity patterns and hence local diversity. A model not using location but cumulative water deficit, tree density, and temperature seasonality explains 47% of the tree species-richness in the terra-firme forest in Amazonia. Over large areas across Amazonia, residuals of this relationship are small and poorly spatially structured, suggesting that much of the residual variation may be local. The Guyana Shield area has consistently negative residuals, showing that this area has lower tree species-richness than expected by our models.     Geographic patterns of tree dispersal modes in Amazonia and their ecological correlates

    Aim: To investigate the geographic patterns and ecological correlates in the geographic distribution of the most common tree dispersal modes in Amazonia (endozoochory, synzoochory, anemochory and hydrochory). We examined if the proportional abundance of these dispersal modes could be explained by the availability of dispersal agents (disperser-availability hypothesis) and/or the availability of resources for constructing zoochorous fruits (resource-availability hypothesis). Time period: Tree-inventory plots established between 1934 and 2019. Major taxa studied: Trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 9.55 cm. Location: Amazonia, here defined as the lowland rain forests of the Amazon River basin and the Guiana Shield. Methods: We assigned dispersal modes to a total of 5433 species and morphospecies within 1877 tree-inventory plots across terra-firme, seasonally flooded, and permanently flooded forests. We investigated geographic patterns in the proportional abundance of dispersal modes. We performed an abundance-weighted mean pairwise distance (MPD) test and fit generalized linear models (GLMs) to explain the geographic distribution of dispersal modes. Results: Anemochory was significantly, positively associated with mean annual wind speed, and hydrochory was significantly higher in flooded forests. Dispersal modes did not consistently show significant associations with the availability of resources for constructing zoochorous fruits. A lower dissimilarity in dispersal modes, resulting from a higher dominance of endozoochory, occurred in terra-firme forests (excluding podzols) compared to flooded forests. Main conclusions: The disperser-availability hypothesis was well supported for abiotic dispersal modes (anemochory and hydrochory). The availability of resources for constructing zoochorous fruits seems an unlikely explanation for the distribution of dispersal modes in Amazonia. The association between frugivores and the proportional abundance of zoochory requires further research, as tree recruitment not only depends on dispersal vectors but also on conditions that favour or limit seedling recruitment across forest types
