Attention Must Be Paid: A Critical Study Of The Non-traditional Leading Man In Twentieth Century Drama

    Get PDF
The role of the non-traditional leading man has painted a strong image which mirrors the cultural development of our identities; we turn to these men/characters to understand who, or why, we are. Their contributions require acknowledgement. This thesis is a study of the vital role the non-traditional leading man has played in the evolution of twentieth-century theatre. It will examine, through the use of ten plays, one from every decade of the twentieth century, and twelve male roles, the theory that some of the greatest leading male characters in modern theatre are not epitomized by the qualities identified with the stereotypical, romantic leading man, but instead by characters who serve as a representative of the evolution of man, and his everchanging role in history

Football Coaching Psychology: a look into the psychological effects of personalized coaching on high school football players at Lincoln North Star

    Get PDF
Many high school football athletes do not have the access or the opportunity to work with a coach one on one to develop skills necessary for their position in football. With dozens of kids on a football team, kids often receive little personalized attention at practices as the coaches are trying to preach the big ideas of getting everyone on the same page. The small mistakes and fine details that players make in practice often go unnoticed and players can form bad habits, costing them when it comes to playing time, due to the fact that they are being outperformed by other players. Because of this notion, it was hypothesized that by working with the receivers and quarterbacks at a local high school over the summer, it would be possible to not only see improvement in their football skills but also to see increasing confidence levels in themselves. In order to see if this could be done, a documentary was filmed over the summer as the high school athletes participated in voluntary workouts with personalized training led by myself. The documentary was broken into three sections: pre-program interview questions, the workout program, and finally, the post-program interview questions. To start, a set of three questions was asked to the entire group of quarterbacks and receivers at Lincoln North Star. These pre-program questions gauged the athletes\u27 thoughts about their current abilities, what they wanted to improve on, and also how confident they felt about their current abilities. After recording their answers the program was quickly installed. Two to three times a week, June through August, for approximately two hours each day, the athletes would participate in voluntary workouts with position-specific and skill-specific drills led by myself. If the athletes were found to be making a small mistake during a drill, it was possible to take the time to teach them the correct way to do it and to ensure that they were able to make the changes and become confident performing the drills that way. Throughout the workout and training program, improvements in skills were seen as they were incorporating the changes made through personalized coaching. The athletes seemed to have more fun as they began to perform better each workout. After the completion of the program, the athletes were asked three questions which served as the post-program questions. Their responses to these questions allowed for the evaluation of how they felt about their skills after going through the program all summer, what they still wanted to improve upon, and finally how confident they were in their abilities. From the beginning of the documentary when the athletes were asked the pre-program questions, to the end when they are asked the post-program questions, there was certainly an apparent overall increase in confidence levels by each athlete

Deliverology in Community Economic Development: Enhancing Results Frameworks and Performance Measurement

    Get PDF
This paper will assess the viability of implementing an alternative delivery model and performance measurement framework – commonly known as ‘deliverology’ – at the level of community economic development. First, a review of relevant literature on traditional economic development delivery models and performance metrics is conducted to determine strengths and weaknesses. Next, a deliverology approach is defined and analyzed to determine whether such a model can address the weaknesses of more traditional approaches. The results indicate that a deliverology approach has many potential advantages for economic development service delivery and addresses many of the weaknesses of current models and frameworks. Since deliverology remains rather new compared to more traditional approaches, further research in terms of a case study in a large urban municipality is recommended as a way to test the applicability of deliverology to community economic development. Keywords: deliverology, performance measurement, results and delivery framework, community economic development, service delivery mode

Characterization of scintillators for ion detection dagnostics in nuclear fusion reactors

    Get PDF
Abstract Scintillator materials are used for ion detection diagnostics in nuclear fusion devices. These diagnostics obtain information from the plasma in a fusion device, for example, in a tokamak. Scintillators working principle is based on the emission of visible light pho- tons by a scintillation material when irradiated with ions. As the currently used material, known as TG-Green, is not commercially available anymore, a search of scintillation ma- terials is made. The Tandem accelerator at ‘Centro Nacional de Aceleradores’ (CNA) is used to characterize the scintillation materials when irradiated with ions. Furthermore, a deposition technique is developed in order to create scintillator screens for their char- acterization, and for their use in different ion diagnostics. The present work proves the sedimentation technique is appropriate for the deposition of scintillators for ion diagnos- tics in fusion devices. Even though the literature showed other scintillators as optimal candidates, the experimental results have shown that, in terms of efficiency, the material TG-Green presents the highest absolute values compared with the analyzed materials.Universidad de Sevilla. Journal ArticlePURPOSE: To identify potential risk factors associated with post-cataract surgery bacterial endophthalmitis. SETTING: The John A. Moran Eye Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study consisted of patients who had surgery for cataract(s) at this eye hospital. A 10% sampling of all patients operated on for cataract surgery from January 1, 1996, to December 31, 2002, were compared with all cases of postcataract surgery bacterial endophthalmitis during this same time period at this institution. The main outcome measure(s) included surgical complication, first postoperative day wound leak, incision placement and location, intraocular lens material, whether a suture was placed, antibiotic used, collagen shield use, and whether the eye was patched. RESULTS: A total of 1525 patients were in the control cohort, and there were 27 cases of endophthalmitis. In a multivariate regression analysis, the factors found to be statistically associated with endophthalmitis were (1) wound leak on the first postoperative day (odds ratio [OR] 44 +/- 42; confidence interval [CI] 6.85 to 287; P<.001); (2) capsular or zonular surgical complication (OR 17.2 +/- 14.2; CI 3.44 to 86.4; P=.001); (3) topical antibiotic started the day after surgery rather than the day of surgery (OR 13.7 +/- 12.9; CI 2.17 to 90.9; P=.005); (4) use of ciprofloxacin rather than ofloxacin topically after surgery (OR 5.3 +/- 3.6; CI 1.41 to 20.0; P=.014); (5) not patching after surgery (OR 7.1 +/- 5.6; CI 1.47 to 36.4; P=.015); and (6) not placing a collagen shield soaked in antibiotic (OR 2.7 +/- 1.3; CI 1.06 to 7.14 P=.037). CONCLUSION: In sutureless cataract surgery, surgical complications and wound leak on the first postoperative day were most strongly associated with endophthalmitis

Studi Penurunan Freeboard terhadap Deck Wetness pada Kapal Open Top Container 800 TEUS

    Get PDF
==================================================================================================================================== Open top containership is a type of container ship which doesn’t have hatch cover. This type of ship is very risky to deck wetness because it can cause damage to the container and cargo contained in the container. One of this ship called HUANGHAI 4 whom class is CCS (China Classification Society) did its model test of this ship with wave height of 7,5m. Meanwhile, the wave height of its shipping route nowadays is 2,5 – 3m. Thus, the owner wanted to maximize the profit by increasing the ship’s displacement. The purpose of this final project is to find the probability of deck wetness against the reduction of freeboard. The simulation was done with strip theory method and help of maxsurf motion software. The simulation to calculate probability of deck wetness was done in 5 variation of degree which are: 0 degree, 45 degree, 90 degree, 135 degree, and 180 degree, and 3m of wave height. Beside that, this calculation was also done in 5 variation of freeboard, which are 4 meter, 3,5 meter, 3 meter, 2,5 meter, and 2 meter. According to the result of simulation and calculation, it’s concluded that the minimum freeboard height of open top container ship 800 TEUS so that it still fulfill the deck wetness and vertical acceleration criteria from NORDFORSK 1987 is 2,5m. So, the displacement that we can add to the ship is 4.418 tons or 24,347% more from its previous displacement

Modelo para el cálculo del potencial de interacción molecular

    Get PDF
The present project will present the main concepts of quantum physics in order to study molecular interaction. Specifically, the aim consists of analysing the interaction potential between two identical atoms by using a one-dimensional model, in which the potential of each atom has been given by a finite potential well. Afterwards, different modifications will be carried out to describe the physical system on a more realistic way. These calculations are specific to the case of interactions between the hydrogen atoms.Universidad de Sevilla. Grado en Ingeniería Químic
