    Standard Model radiative corrections in the pion form factor measurements do not explain the aμa_\mu anomaly

    In this letter, we address the question of whether the almost four standard deviations difference between theory and experiment for the muon anomalous magnetic moment aμa_\mu can be explained as a higher-order Standard Model perturbation effect in the pion form factor measurements. This question has, until now, remained open, obscuring the source of discrepancies between the measurements. We calculate the last radiative corrections for the extraction of the pion form factor, which were believed to be potentially substantial enough to explain the data within the Standard Model. We find that the corrections are too small to diminish existing discrepancies in the determination of the pion form factor for different kinematical configurations of low-energy BABAR, BESS-III and KLOE experiments. Consequently, they cannot noticeably change the previous predictions for aμa_\mu and decrease the deviations between theory and direct measurements. To solve the above issues, new data and better understanding of low-energy experimental setups are needed, especially as new direct aμa_\mu measurements at Fermilab and J-PARC will provide new insights and substantially shrink the experimental error

    Equivalent thermal diffusivity of natural and recycled aggregate concrete at temperature up to 350 ⁰C

    The paper presents the evolution of equivalent thermal diffusivity with temperature of concretes with natural coarse aggregates and recycled concrete aggregates. Thermal diffusivity was evaluated based on the temperature measurements made on cylindrical samples using so-called "inverse technique". Thermal diffusivity parameter was estimated for concretes manufactured with different replacement ratios of natural by recycled coarse aggregate (0, 50 and 100 %) produced by crushing the worn-out concrete pavement that was dismounted after exploitation period. The diffusivity of concrete was tested up to 350 ◦C. The progressive decrease of thermal diffusivity was observed, and the lowest D values were obtained for higher recycled concrete aggregates content. The results were presented against the background of other authors results and referred to the D values proposed in EUROCODE 2

    The idea for this publication was barn in June 2015, during a meeting of Polish teachers involved with Geographic lnformation Systems. The meeting was initiated by the Department of Geoinformation, Faculty of Geographical Sciences, University of Łódź, which received a grant to organize it. The discussion and presentations from academic teachers representing various universities in Poland were very interesting and sometimes heated. it would be advisable for other educators to familiarise themselves with the aspects of GIS education among Polish geographers, foresters, surveyors and other users. The experience of Geoinformation education in Poland is still modest, so the views of people who have been involved at Polish universities with it since the 1990s should be interesting to readers. Geographic lnformation Systems (GIS) – the integration of environmental and climate issues as an important factor for economic development and quality of life – an innovative second-degree studies. Akronim GIS-E-QL: GIS for environment and quality of life. Project objectives: The main aim of the project is to start-up attractive and innovative second­ degree studies – geoinformation in mutual cooperation of the FGS and the FMCS, students education, improving the competence of academic teachers, conference organization, publishing, cooperation with practitioners and establishing contacts with partners from Norway. This aim is consistent with the “Ana lysis of the economy's demand for graduates in key field of strategy in the context of the Europe 2020” 2012 and “Strategy for development of higher education in Poland 2020”, in the field of promoting innovative courses, formed collectively with practitioners, raising awareness of the environment. Joint actions of educators and practitioners, supported the by the strengthening of university's hardware, software and spatial data, will ensure a high quality project. The existing cooperation with practitioners indicate that further training is necessary and they would like to see postgraduates in their institutions. The final beneficiaries of the project will be the students and the academical teaching staff and indirectly the economy of the region. Students who graduate will be the main recipient of the project, the next will be teaching staff who will have contact with the practices and Norwegian partners with similar interests. In broad terms the project will benefit Polish and European economy and environment.This book has been prepared within the project „Geographic Information Systems (GIS) – the integration of environmental and climate issues as an important factor of economic development and quality of life – an innovative second-degree studies” supported by a grant from Norway through the Norway Grants and co-financed by the Polish funds.     Practice setting and secondary prevention of coronary artery disease

    Introduction: Patients with established coronary artery disease (CAD) are at high risk of recurrent cardiovascular events. The aim of the analysis was to compare time trends in the extent to which cardiovascular prevention guidelines have been implemented by primary care physicians and specialists. Material and methods: Five hospitals with cardiology departments serving the city and surrounding districts in the southern part of Poland participated in the study. Consecutive patients hospitalized due to an acute coronary syndrome or for a myocardial revascularization procedure were recruited and interviewed 6-18 months after hospitalization. The surveys were carried out in 1997-1998, 1999-2000, 2006-2007 and 2011-2013. Results: The proportion of smokers increased from 16.0% in 1997–1998 to 16.4% in 2011-2013 among those who declared that a cardiologist in a hospital outpatient clinic decided about the treatment, from 17.5% to 34.0% (p < 0.01) among those treated by a primary care physician, and from 7.0% to 19.7% (p = 0.06) among patients treated in private cardiology practices. The corresponding proportions were 44.6% and 42.4% (p < 0.01), 47.7% and 52.8% (p = 0.53), 44.2% and 42.2% (p = 0.75) for high blood pressure, and 42.5% and 71.2% (p < 0.001), 51.4% and 79.6% (p < 0.001), 52.4% and 72.4% (p < 0.01) for LDL cholesterol level not at recommended goal. The proportion of patients prescribed cardioprotective medications increased in every analyzed group. Conclusions: The control of cardiovascular risk in CAD patients has only slightly improved since 1997/98 in all health care settings. The greatest potential for further improvement was found among patients whose post-hospital care is provided by primary care physicians. It is associated with promotion of a no-smoking policy and enhanced prescription of guideline-recommended drugs

Goodchild who jointly with Ross Newkirk (Goodchild 2006) started the fi rst GIS training course at the University of Western Ontario in Canada in 1975. Discussions on the scope of knowledge included in the GIS have continued at most universities that have offered such classes. In 1988/89, owing to the National Centre for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA), the 3-volume document of over 1000 pages was put together to include curriculums, student materials and other teaching aids. We have good models and we can use them. Meetings and discussions about the GIS education have been and still are regularly held all over the world (Forer P., Unwin D. 1999). When employees of Polish universities were starting to learn the GIS software and possibilities, Morgan J. M., Fleury B., Becker R. A. (1996) had already identifi ed over 800 higher education institutions all over the world that had offered at least one GIS course. The rapid development of new technologies, methods, the creation of new labour markets has arisen discussions on the contents GIS training in various centres of higher education, e.g. in the Netherlands, the US, and those have been similar to the ones presented in this article (Toppen F. J. 1992) and some issues needed to be resolved in court (DiBiase, D. 2008). You can see how important these meetings of educators are for exchanging opinions and experience. They have allowed to meed people representing various fi elds involved in the geoinformation, which may result in co-operation and new educational initiatives, and sometimes, competition. Finally, we should agree with prof. J. Gaździcki (2009 p. 12) that “It is obvious that the success of any measures to modernise education in the area under consideration depends on the interest of academic communities, involvement of research and academic staff in these endeavours, their will, ambition and willingness to co-operate”.This book has been prepared within the project „Geographic Information Systems (GIS) – the integration of environmental and climate issues as an important factor of economic development and quality of life – an innovative second-degree studies” supported by a grant from Norway through the Norway Grants and co-financed by the Polish funds.     Effect of Hydration and Carbonation Progress on the Porosity and Permeability of Cement Pastes

    This paper presents the results of comprehensive cement paste porosity and gas permeability tests. The tests conducted concerned ordinary Portland cement (OPC) cement pastes with varying water-cement ratios ranging from 0.3 to 0.6. The tests were conducted after the curing of cement paste for 90 days and two years under laboratory conditions. Open porosity was determined using three methods: helium pycnometry, mercury intrusion porosimetry, and water saturation. Permeability was determined using a modified RILEM-Cembureau method. The results obtained demonstrated that permeability does not change significantly over time despite the observed material shifts in open porosity characteristics caused both by further progress in hydration and by the carbonation process that occurs. The results of the tests conducted also permitted the quantitative determination of the impact of the water-cement ratio, age, and the progress of carbonation on open porosity measured using different methods and also on the gas permeability of the pastes

Pierwszy rozdział zawiera omówienie definicji i własności rozkładu Dirichleta oraz wyprowadzenie rozkładu Pólyi jako rozkładu złożonego. W drugim rozdziale opisano model urnowy Pólyi i jego związek z rozkładem Pólyi oraz rozkładem Dirichleta. Trzeci rozdział zawiera przykład wykorzystania modelu urnowego i rozkładu Dirichleta w modelu wyborczym.The thesis describes the Dirichlet distribution, Pólya urn model and connections between them, as well as discussion of their applications in voting models. First chapter contains overview of the definition and properties of Dirichlet distribution, and derivation of the Pólya distribution as a compund distribution. In the second chapter the Pólya urn model is introduced, and its connection with Dirichlet and Pólya distributions is described. The third chapter contains an example of application of the urn model and Dirichlet distribution in voting model

    Celem pracy jest przedstawienie związku problemu momentów z wielomianami ortogonalnymi. W pierwszej części sformułowany jest problem momentów Hamburgera i przytoczone są rezultaty na temat istnienia jego rozwiązań. Następnie pokazana jest konstrukcja bazy ortonormalnej w przestrzeni wielomianów związanej z ciągiem momentów oraz udowodnione zostają jej własności. Później wykazane jest twierdzenie o zerach wielomianów ortogonalnych. W ostatniej części zaprezentowane są wyniki dotyczące jednoznaczności problemu momentów związane z wielomianami ortogonalnymi.The aim of the thesis is to present the connection between the moment problem and orthogonal polynomials. In the first part, the Hamburger moment problem is formulated and the results on the existence of its solutions are mentioned. Next, the orthonormal base in a space of polynomials related to a moment sequence is set up and properties of this base are proved. Later, the theorem about the zeroes of orthogonal polynomials is proved. The last part presents results on the uniqueness of the moment problem in relation to orthogonal polynomials
