Use of lipids of Chlorella microalgae in poultry meat marinades and sauces recipes
ArticleThe aim of this study is to develop formulations and technologies for fermented poultry
meat products with the addition of whey and lipid extracts obtained from Chlorella microalgae.
Lyophilized microalgal biomass was obtained from cell suspensions of Chlorella sorokiniana
(strain 211-8k) cultivated in a closed photobioreactor under laboratory conditions. For the cell
wall disintegration, the biomass samples were homogenized using a high-speed homogenizer at
10,000 vol min-1
for 5 minutes. The lipid extraction was performed on a Sohxlet apparatus Buchi
E-812 SOX with the solvent extraction system ethanol: n-hexane (1: 9). The higher fatty acids
composition of the obtained microalgal lipid extracts was determined by gas chromatography
with flame-ionization detection using nitrogen as a carrier gas. The ω-3 and ω-6 content
represented 26.59% and 19.05% respectively, which indicates that these lipid extracts have high
nutritional values. The curd whey was obtained from cow's milk of summer and winter production
from 2017 to 2018 (Lomonosov district auxiliary farm, Leningrad region); and lyophilized Direct
Vat Set (DVS) cultures (Ch. Hansen, Denmark). The organic acids and carbohydrate content in
the serum was determined by ion-exclusion HPLC. The FD-DVS CHN-19 culture was selected
to produce a serum with improved organoleptic characteristics and a lower propionic acid content
(0.01 g L
-1
). To obtain an optimal ω-3 / ω-6 ratio, a phyto-additive mixture based on sunflower
oil and lipid extracts from C. sorokiniana microalgae at a ratio of 5–10: 1 is proposed to be used
in recipes and technologies of sauces and marinades. It is established that the use of curd whey
marinades allow to increase the water-holding capacity (WHC) by 6−8% and to reduce losses
during heat treatment of poultry meat from 2 to 11%

National and regional seasonal dynamics of all-cause and cause-specific mortality in the USA from 1980 to 2016
In temperate climates, winter deaths exceed summer ones. However, there is limited information on the timing and the relative magnitudes of maximum and minimum mortality, by local climate, age group, sex and medical cause of death. We used geo-coded mortality data and wavelets to analyse the seasonality of mortality by age group and sex from 1980 to 2016 in the USA and its subnational climatic regions. Death rates in men and women ≥ 45 years peaked in December to February and were lowest in June to August, driven by cardiorespiratory diseases and injuries. In these ages, percent difference in death rates between peak and minimum months did not vary across climate regions, nor changed from 1980 to 2016. Under five years, seasonality of all-cause mortality largely disappeared after the 1990s. In adolescents and young adults, especially in males, death rates peaked in June/July and were lowest in December/January, driven by injury deaths

Augmented Reality (AR) is an emerging technology that utilizes computer vision methods to overlay virtual objects onto the real world scene so as to make them appear to co-exist with the real objects. Its main objective is to enhance the user’s interaction with the real world by providing the right information needed to perform a certain task. Applications of this technology in manufacturing include maintenance, assembly and telerobotics. In this paper, we explore the potential of teaching a robot to perform an arc welding task in an AR environment. A long survival of a patient with brain metastasis of unknown site of the primary tumor
Eighty percent of brain metastases (BM) are diagnosed in patients with known primary site of cancer. BM of unknown primary represents a difficult diagnosis. In up to 15% of patients with BM, the site of the primary tumor will not be detected despite investigations. The prognosis of this entity is very poor. We report here a case of a long survival of a patient with brain metastasis of unknown primary. The conclusion that can be drawn is that within BM of unknown primary exist patients with a very good prognosis that must be collected and published in order to base recommendations
Vaccine market access pathways in the EU27 and the United Kingdom-analysis and recommendations for improvements
Background: Vaccine market access (VMA) pathways across the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) are complex, lengthy, and heterogeneous, particularly when compared with pharmaceuticals. The knowledge base to inform recommendations for optimization of VMA is lacking. We therefore conducted a comprehensive evaluation of EU VMA pathways. Methods: Research in two phases included: (1) mapping VMA pathways in each EU member state (including the UK) based on a literature review, expert interviews, and mathematical archetyping; and (2) interviews with vaccine experts to identify barriers, drivers, and recommendations for regional VMA alignments. Results: Key steps in VMA across the EU include horizon scanning, early advice, National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG) recommendation for inclusion in national immunization programs, health technology assessment (HTA), final decision and procurement. We found significant complexity and heterogeneity, particularly for early advice, and in the roles, decision-making criteria, and transparency of NITAGs and HTA bodies. The most important drivers for rapid VMA included demonstration of disease burden and vaccine benefit (e.g., efficacy, safety, economic). Key barriers were budget limitations and complexity/clarity of VMA processes (e.g., need for national-regional consensus, clarity on process initiation, and clarity on the role of HTA). Recommendations for alignment at EU and member-state levels include information sharing, joint clinical assessment, initiatives to address funding and political barriers, and improved transparency by decision-making bodies. Early engagement with vaccine stakeholders was a key recommendation for manufacturers. Conclusions: There is significant potential for alignment, collaboration, and improvement of VMA across the EU. Roles, responsibilities, and transparency of key bodies can be clarified. The COVID-19 pandemic response should stimulate policies to improve access to all vaccines, including routine ones, and form the foundation upon which a consistent vaccine ecosystem can be created for the EU, one that is resilient, consistent between member states, and fit for purpose
