    Get PDF
Doing translation tasks, especially in English-for-Specific-Purposes (ESP) courses, is probably demanding and challenging, which requires students’ utilization of dictionaries and other tools. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate Vietnamese English-as-a-Foreign-Language (EFL) students’ habits of dictionary consultation in ESP translation. The data were collected during a three-week period among 75 third-year EFL students from three classes at University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS), Vietnam National University (VNU) by a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods (i.e. survey questionnaires with a combination of close-ended and open-ended questions). The research highlighted the students’ positive attitudes towards dictionary use together with a high level of its frequency in translating ESP texts, their definite preference for dictionary applications for mobile phones and bilingual dictionaries as well as their prioritized lookups such as equivalents, examples, equivalent usage, and word definitions. In addition, it revealed that the students were confident in their capability of exploiting the dictionaries in ESP translation and thus had little desire for teachers’ assistance and guidance

Is It Possible for “Electronic Word-of-Mouth” and “User-Generated Content” to be Used Interchangeably?

The advance of web 2.0 that facilitates contents to be created, shared and exchanged through online platforms has led to profound changes in consumer behavior. Modern consumers appreciate nonprofessional-produced contents as they are perceived to be more trustworthy. As a result, electronic Word-of-Mouth (eWOM) and user-generated content (UGC) have become two of the most frequent researched objects over the last ten years in marketing area. However, extant studies have confounded these two concepts which may cause significant academic problems. In this paper the authors aim to disentangle eWOM and UGC by comparing their fundamental attributes. Findings prove that despite sharing similar attributes, eWOM and UGC are two distinctive concepts with different scope and meaning. It is thus concluded that eWOM and UGC cannot be used interchangeably. The results of this study provide important implications for future research. Keywords: eWOM, UGC, creation, dissemination, publicity. DOI: 10.7176/JMCR/65-04 Publication date: February 29th 202

This study was carried out to optimize the various approaches to analyze the effects of various variables on the total flavonoid content extraction from the roots of Helicteres hirsuta L. The existence of various compounds in the methanol fraction was accessed by using LC-MS/MS analysis. The results of the study identified the ideal parameters such as times (30 minutes); methanol solvent concentration (50%); ultrasonic frequency (12 Hz); and material/solvent ratio [1:30 (w/v)] for extracting the highest total flavonoids from the roots of H. Hirsuta. The study's results suggested that the total flavonoid value was 3.52684 (mg Catechin/g extract). The verified experiment obtained an actual value of 5.205 (mg Catechin/g extract). Further, the results of the study suggested the presence of 20 compounds of a flavonoid nature (66.667%) appearing in the purified methanol fractional extract. These compounds can inhibit DPPH free radicals at 50%, with an IC50 value of 536.760 g/mL, and they also have inhibitory activity on the growth of cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 115.81 and 219.17g/mL. The human leukemia cell line (HL-60) exhibits the most significant cytotoxic response to a methanol extract from H. hirsuta root with an IC50 value of 115.81 g/mL

Guide to Participatory Scenario Planning (PSP): Experiences from the Agro-Climate Information Services for women and ethnic minority farmers in South-East Asia (ACIS) project in Ha Tinh and Dien Bien province, Vietnam

    Get PDF
The Participatory scenario planning (PSP) workshop is a valuable knowledge-sharing platform through which stakeholders, including those who support the implementation of PSP (i.e., meteorological and agricultural services) and those who access and use the climate information (i.e., technical experts, and farmers) meet to discuss adaptation actions within the context of climate information. The PSP approach was developed under CARE International’s Adaptation Learning Programme (ALP). It was then adapted to Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia under the Agro-Climate Information Services for women and ethnic minority farmers in South-East Asia (ACIS) project by CARE International in Vietnam and World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) Vietnam

A SURVEY OF THE ERRORS OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 10 AND 12 WHEN USING VIETA’S FORMULAS TO SOLVE THE ASSOCIATED MATHEMATICAL PROBLEMS

    Get PDF
Vieta’s formulas have many applications in the general mathematics program in Vietnam. Indeed, they appear in many forms of mathematical problems, ranging from 9th, 10th and 12th grades. The complexity of the mathematical problems makes students commit many errors when using the Vieta’s formulas to solve them. The sample consisted of 246 students in grades 10 and 12, in which they addressed four questionnaires related to Vieta’s formulas. The results were quite unexpected because the errors of tenth graders also existed for 12th grade students for many different reasons.  Article visualizations

Calculation of Temperature-Dependent Thermal Expansion Coefficient of Metal Crystals Based on Anharmonic Correlated Debye Model

    Get PDF
This study aims to calculate the anharmonic thermal expansion (TE) coefficient of metal crystals in the temperature dependence. The calculation model is derived from the anharmonic correlated Debye (ACD) model that is developed using the many-body perturbation approach and correlated Debye model based on the anharmonic effective potential. This potential has taken into account the influence on the absorbing and backscattering atoms of all their nearest neighbors in the crystal lattice. The numerical results for the crystalline zinc (Zn) and crystalline copper (Cu) are in agreement with those obtained by the other theoretical model and experiments at several temperatures. The analytical results show that the ACD model is useful and efficient in analyzing the TE of coefficient of metal crystals

Boron coordination and co-incorporation of Al, Ga in BEA borosilicate and dissolution of zeolite nanoparticles from large particles in organic solvents

Borosilicate zeolites have importance applications due to their weak acid sites, which is suitable for certain catalytic reaction and the providing new structure by using as boron source. The boron coordination in beta borosilicates can be transformed from trigonal to tetrahedral boron or vice versa upon hydration/dehydration processes. Especially, at the high degree of hydration, boron can be removed from the framework of the proton form via hydration. Based on this flexibility of the boron coordination, Al and Ga beta zeolites can be formed via post-synthetic treatments with varying the Na+/H+ ratio in dehydrated beta borosilicates. The forming of zeolite nanocrystals has received much attention due to their great potential of applications in catalysis and adsorption. A novel method with organic solvents was applied for preparation of zeolite nanoparticles. Using the polar solvents, such as DMF and DMSO, the zeolite colloidal suspensions with the particle sizes at about 200 nm are formed from the zeolite microparticles. Some parameters, e.g. water and sodium concentrations can affect to the mean particle size of the zeolite nanocrystals

Pangasius, a freshwater fish, plays an important role in aquaculture in Vietnam. To date, Pangasius products have become appreciated by consumers from different markets all over the world. In European countries Pangasius is commonly marketed in the form of frozen fillets. Despite the booming export of Pangasius products from Vietnam, at the moment very little scientific information is available about the microbiological quality of this product. Therefore, the general aim of this study was to evaluate the microbial quality of frozen Pangasius fillets as influenced by industrial processing. Firstly, the evolution of the microbial quality and safety of frozen Pangasius fillets processed industrially in Vietnam and marketed in Belgium was evaluated. Secondly, the dynamics of microbial contamination was assessed in Pangasius processing lines substantially oriented to export by means of a microbial assessment scheme combined with a self-assessment questionnaire. Lastly, to evaluate the efficacy of chlorine used in the washing water in some processing plants in Vietnam, decontamination of Pangasius fillets and disinfection of the wash water was studied elaborately on both an industrial and laboratory scale
