“Cyganie polscy” and “Cyganie na Polskich drogach”. Comparing three editions of Jerzy Ficowski’s book The paper attempts at comparing three editions of Jerzy Ficowski’s book: “Cyganie polscy” and “Cyganie na Polskich drogach” (published in 1965 and 1985). The main focus of the analysis is differences in the content of all three editions. Three main areas of content changes were identified: content removed, editing and stylistic changes, and content added (supplemented). Polish-Roma dictionary found in each edition was also analyzed. Dokumentacja kultury a cyfrowe zasoby archiwalne. Przypadek Polskiej Bibliografii Literackiej (PBL) i Archiwum Telewizji Polskiej

The article is a case study of cooperation between scientific documentary and bibliographic working group – the Working Group of Current Bibliography (WGCB) of the Institute of Literary Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences, the creator of the Polish Literary Bibliography – and the Polish Television Archives. The cooperation initiated by the WGCB aimed at collecting, in digital form, metadata of archival holdings of the Polish Television (TVP), that were supposed to enrich data resources of the PLB. The case was described in a multi-faceted manner: I) the context was depicted on the basis of merit, i.e. information needs of the PLB on the background of the up-to-date range of television recordings of literature reception and on the background of changing information sources (atrophy of printed sources, arising possibilities of processing digital sources); II) the process of starting the cooperation with the Archives was described, especially the problem of using metadata from an archival database for documenting not particular archival units, but abstractly perceived cultural phenomena (a broadcast, a TV programme, etc.); III) analysis of technical problems with processing data was depicted (results of cooperation between institutions with own data models, created for different purposes); IV) conclusions from the case study were presented: a) about the procedural side of cooperation in using metadata from heritage institutions (the context of metadata standards, various traditions of creating them, and contemporary institutional purposes of managing them); b) about the broader (“soft”) problem of “understanding data” (data literacy) in scientific and cultural institutions.Artykuł stanowi studium przypadku współpracy między naukową pracownią dokumentacyjno-bibliograficzną – Pracownią Bibliografii Bieżącej Instytutu Badań Literackich Polskiej Akademii Nauk, twórczynią Polskiej Bibliografii Literackiej – a Archiwum Telewizji Polskiej. Współpraca zainicjowana przez PBB miała na celu pozyskanie, w formie cyfrowej, metadanych zasobów archiwalnych TVP, które posłużyć miały do wzbogacenia zasobu danych PBL. Przypadek opisano w sposób wieloaspektowy: I) określono merytoryczny kontekst współpracy z perspektywy, tj. potrzeby informacyjne PBL na tle dotychczasowego zakresu dokumentacji telewizyjnej recepcji literatury oraz na tle przemian źródeł informacji (zanikają źródła drukowane, pojawiają się możliwości przetwarzania źródeł cyfrowych); II) opisano proces nawiązywania współpracy z Archiwum, w szczególności problem wykorzystania metadanych archiwalnej bazy danych do celów dokumentacji nie tyle danej jednostki archiwalnej, co raczej abstrakcyjnie pojmowanego zjawiska kulturalnego (audycji, programu telewizyjnego etc.); III) zaprezentowano analizę technicznych problemów związanych z przetwarzaniem danych (będących pokłosiem współpracy instytucji posiadających własne modele danych i to tworzone w innych celach); IV) zaproponowano wnioski z przedstawionego studium przypadku: a) dotyczące formalnej strony współpracy w zakresie wykorzystywania metadanych instytucji dziedzictwa (kontekst standardów metadanych, różnych tradycji ich powstawania oraz współczesnych instytucjonalnych celów zarządzania metadanymi); b) dotyczące szerszego („miękkiego”) problemu „rozumienia danych” (data literacy) w instytucjach nauki i kultury

Naturalne promieniowanie gamma na poziomie morza wokół kontynentu antarktycznego zarejestrowane na południe od równoleżnika 62°

This study presents the results of dosimetry radiation measurement performed in the Antarctic region at the surface of the sea which was conducted between January and March 2018. Over 2 200 records were collected using a portable Gamma Scout Online radiometer during a 72-day voyage circumnavigating the continent of Antarctica. The mean average of the measured radiation dose rate was 0.091 μSvh-1 and varied from 0.052 to 0.193 μSvh-1. These result are above global average dose rate of radiation at sea level (0.031 μSvh-1) and often higher than those recorded on the Antarctic continent. Yet generally our records fall within well recognized latitudinal trend of radiation being higher toward poles. This is results of troposphere begins at lower altitude in Antarctic in comparison to lower latitudes. The origin of this radiation is natural and results from the presence of higher cosmic rays and secondary radiation induced in the atmosphere. The presence of terrestrial radionuclides in the Antarctic environment has a local, secondary influence on the measured values of radiation. The theoretical calculated annual dose equivalent for humans present in Antarctica could often exceed the limit of 1 mSv as recorded for other Antarctic locations yet our results (0.772 mSv per year) do not confirm that.W pracy przedstawiono wyniki dozymetrycznych pomiarów promieniowania, przeprowadzonych przez załogę jachtu Katharsis II, w trakcie 72-dniowego rejsu wokół Antarktydy. Podczas rejsu trwającego od stycznia do marca 2018 roku, za pomocą przenośnego radiometru Gamma Scout Online rejestrowano dawki promieniowania na poziomie morza w odstępach 10-minutowych. Po wstępnej analizie statystycznej uzyskano dane w postaci 2 200 rekordów, które wykorzystano do wnioskowania o rozkładzie promieniowania w rejonie Antarktyki. Średnia zmierzona moc dawki promieniowania wyniosła 0,091 μSvh-1 i wahała się od 0,052 do 0,193 μSvh-1. Wyniki te są powyżej średniej globalnej mocy dawki promieniowania na poziomie morza (0,031 μSvh-1) i często wyższe niż te zarejestrowane bezpośrednio na Antarktydzie. Jednak, generalnie zarejestrowane przez nas dawki promieniowania mieszczą się w dobrze rozpoznanym równoleżnikowym trendzie, w którym promieniowanie jest wyższe w kierunku biegunów. Związane jest to z cieńszą warstwą troposfery w rejonach biegunowych w porównaniu z niższymi, równikowymi szerokościami geograficznymi. Ogólnie pochodzenie tego promieniowania jest naturalne i związane z silniejszą penetracją troposfery przez promieniowanie kosmiczne oraz obecnością promieniowania wtórnego indukowanego w atmosferze. Obecność radionuklidów naziemnych w środowisku Antarktyki ma lokalny, wtórny wpływ na mierzone wartości promieniowania. Teoretycznie obliczony roczny ekwiwalent dawki dla ludzi, w różnych miejscach Antarktydy, może przekraczać limit 1 mSv, natomiast nasze wyniki (0,772 mSv rocznie) tego nie potwierdzają

Analysis of the link between the redox state and enzymatic activity of the HtrA (DegP) protein from Escherichia coli

Bacterial HtrAs are proteases engaged in extracytoplasmic activities during stressful conditions and pathogenesis. A model prokaryotic HtrA (HtrA/DegP from Escherichia coli) requires activation to cleave its substrates efficiently. In the inactive state of the enzyme, one of the regulatory loops, termed LA, forms inhibitory contacts in the area of the active center. Reduction of the disulfide bond located in the middle of LA stimulates HtrA activity in vivo suggesting that this S-S bond may play a regulatory role, although the mechanism of this stimulation is not known. Here, we show that HtrA lacking an S-S bridge cleaved a model peptide substrate more efficiently and exhibited a higher affinity for a protein substrate. An LA loop lacking the disulfide was more exposed to the solvent; hence, at least some of the interactions involving this loop must have been disturbed. The protein without S-S bonds demonstrated lower thermal stability and was more easily converted to a dodecameric active oligomeric form. Thus, the lack of the disulfide within LA affected the stability and the overall structure of the HtrA molecule. In this study, we have also demonstrated that in vitro human thioredoxin 1 is able to reduce HtrA; thus, reduction of HtrA can be performed enzymatically

Artykuł omawia w kontekstach historycznych zagadnienia związane z nomadyzmem Cyganów. Punktem wyjścia jest założenie o istnieniu mitologicznego sposobu myślenia o ich wędrówkach (nomadyzmie, półnomadyzmie). Utrwalił się on zarówno w myśleniu większościowym, jak i w percepcji samych Cyganów. Przykładami opisanymi w artykule są postawy określonych państw i polityka realizowana wobec Romów. Autor przedstawił również sposoby poruszania się Cyganów po drogach Europy.The article discusses issues related to the nomadism of Gypsies in historical contexts. The starting point is the assumption that there is a mythological way of thinking about their journeys (nomadism, semi-nomadism). It persisted both in the majority thinking and in the perception of the Gypsies themselves. The examples in the article are the attitudes of certain countries and the policy pursued towards them. The journeying of the Gypsies on the roads of Europe is also presented

Alcohol as an aspect of social life and part of soviet and postsoviet everyday reality

Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest tematyce alkoholu jako czynnika wpływającego na życie codzienne mieszkańców zarówno Związku Radzieckiego jak i dzisiejszej Federacji Rosyjskiej. Codzienności składającej się z kulturowo ukształtowanych i uporządkowanych sytuacji, zachowań, działań typowych i powtarzalnych. Dzieje się ona zazwyczaj w powiązaniu z przedmiotowym walorem kultury. W tym przypadku kultury rosyjskiej. Alkoholowe tradycje, obyczaje i przyzwyczajenia, przez wieki zakorzeniały się w życiu człowieka, niejednokrotnie stając się niepostrzegalną siłą, wpływającą na jego psychikę i zachowanie. W rozdziale pierwszym zwrócono uwagę na fakty historyczne, które poniekąd wpłynęły na rozwój i ukształtowanie dzisiejszego modelu spożywania alkoholu w Rosji. Nie bez znaczenia jest tutaj również sfera mentalna, przepełnionego bezradnością i powszechną znieczulicą w podejściu do życia przez wieki kształtowanego najpierw przez system poddaństwa, a następnie bolszewizmu. Wątek ten poruszony został w rozdziale drugim. Rozdział Trzeci w całości poświęcony jest czasom radzieckim. Nowym systemie społecznym w odniesieniu do problemów pijaństwa całego narodu, ale również opisowi radzieckiej codzienności, pełnej niespełnionych ideałów i marzeń ludzi, których oczekiwania były zgoła inne. Przechodząc przez ponad siedemdziesięcioletni okres komunizmu, w świadomości obywatela rosyjskiego utrwaliło się poczucie braku odpowiedzialności za cokolwiek – w tym za swoje zdrowie. Czwarty rozdział poświęcony jest tematyce alkoholizmu jako choroby społecznej i oraz analizie, jakimi alkoholami raczą się Rosjanie. Oba te zagadnienia wpływają na socjalny kryzys rodziny, a co się z tym bezpośrednio wiąże, na problem demograficzny. W opinii wielu ekspertów, jeśli sytuacja nie ulegnie zmianie, w najbliższej przyszłości Rosję czekają ogromne problemy, które rozwiązać będzie mogła tylko odpowiednia polityka imigracyjna. Piąty rozdział opisuje alkohol w kulturze i żuciu codziennym Rosji współczesnej. Omawiane są obyczaje biesiady rosyjskiej, sposoby świętowania, stereotypy oraz wpływ alkoholu na współczesną kulturę rosyjską, w tym pojawienie się nowego nurtu literackiego, jakim stała się proza alkoholowa.The thesis is devoted to the subject of alcohol as a factor in the daily life of the inhabitants of both the Soviet Union and today's Russia. Everyday consisting of culturally shaped and structured situations, behaviors, typical and repetitive. It usually takes place in connection with the subjective valor of the culture. In this case, the Russian culture. Alcoholic traditions, customs and habits, for centuries rooted in a people's life, often becoming invisible force affecting the psyche and behavior. The first section highlights the historical facts, which in some way contributed to the development and shaping of the present model of alcohol consumption in Russia. What should be noticed is the mental sphere, filled with helplessness and indifference of the general approach to life shaped by centuries of serfdom system first, and then Bolshevism. This topic has been described in the second chapter. The third chapter is fully devoted to Soviet times. New social system in relation to the problems of drunkenness of the entire nation, but also the description of Soviet everyday life, full of unfulfilled ideals and dreams of people whose expectations were quite different. Going through a period of more than seventy years of communism, the Russian national consciousness perpetuated the sense of responsibility for anything - including for their own health. The fourth chapter is devoted to issues of alcoholism as a disease and the analysis of the Russians alcohol preferences. Both of these issues affect the social crisis of the family, and what is the direct consequence, the demographic problem. In the opinion of many experts, if the situation does not change in the near future Russia will face huge problems that could only be solved by the right immigration policy.The fifth chapter describes the alcohol in the culture and daily life of today's Russia as well as the customs of Russian feasts, ways of celebrating, stereotypes and the impact of alcohol on modern Russian culture, including the emergence of a new literary trend, which has become the alcohol prose

Niniejsza praca dotyczy problematyki merytorycznego orzekania przez polskie sądy administracyjne. W opracowaniu omówiony został wpływ orzeczeń merytorycznych na ekonomikę procesową oraz ich zgodność z Konstytucją RP. Praca zawiera również omówienie merytorycznego orzekania przez sądy administracyjne w innych systemach prawnych. Ostatni dział opracowania poświęcony został omówieniu tematu pracy na podstawie wybranych orzeczeń sądowych.This thesis deals with the substantive issues of adjudication by Polish administrative courts. Thesis discusses the influence of substantive decisions on process economics and their compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. The assumption also includes discussing substantive adjudication by administrative courts in other legal systems. The last section of the supposition is devoted to discussing the subject of the work on the grounds of selected judicial decisions
