    Reproduction Structure and Technological Progress in Economy: The Role of Talents as Capital

    Human activities in concrete production are diversified from product manufacturing, service production to management technology. Technological progress is organized into such various human activities. This paper is written on our “Talents capital hypothesis”, after surveying the genealogy of economic thought since Smith, and, carefully examining the theoretical basis of the hypothesis. The concept “Talents capital” comprehensively captures the human activities. The hypothesis is that realistic technological progress should be based on qualitative development of "Talents capital", that is, accumulation and succession of production-related knowledge and technology, embodied in workers group (=personal owner of individual enterprises as well as employee (including corporate officer) in general enterprises)

    Determination of nutrients in seawater by segmented–flow analysis with higher analysis rate and reduced interference on ammonia

    A microbore continuous-flow analyser was used to determine ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate in seawater. Ninety samples per hour were measured by optimizing the hydraulic conditions and using a cadmium coil for nitrate reduction. The analysis range was extended and the detection limit was reduced by using two analytical ranges with automatic range-changing. Interference from magnesium on ammonia was investigated and reduced by using a different complexing agent. The results correlated well with a Japanese reference method

    Argulus japonicus Thiele and A. coregoni Thorell (Crustacea: Branchiura) from western Honshu, Japan

    本州西部からチョウ属エラオ類の2種,チョウArgulus japonicus Thiele, 1900とチョウモドキA. coregoni Thorell, 1864を採集した。本地域からチョウは初記録,チョウモドキは2度目の記録になる。チョウは兵庫・島根・山口3県のコイCyprinus carpioに加えて,兵庫県の不明宿主から得られた。また兵庫県の一河川では遊泳中の個体が採集された。チョウモドキは兵庫・広島両県のアマゴOncorhynchus masou ishikawaeから得られた。Specimens of Argulus japonicus Thiele, 1900 and A. coregoni Thorell, 1864 were collected in western Honshu, Japan. This is the first documented record of A. japonicus and the second record of A. coregoni from this region. Argulus japonicus was found to be parasitic on common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in Hyogo, Shimane and Yamaguchi prefectures and an unknown fish in Hyogo Prefecture. A swimming specimen of A. japonicus was taken in a river in Hyogo Prefecture. Argulus coregoni was sampled from river-resident and reared amago salmon (Oncorhynchus masou ishikawae) in Hiroshima and Hyogo prefectures, respectively

    NOS2 polymorphisms associated with the susceptibility to pulmonary arterial hypertension with systemic sclerosis: contribution to the transcriptional activity

    Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease characterized by tissue fibrosis. One of several complications of SSc, pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) can be refractory to treatment, both novel and established. In the present study we investigated the ratio of circulating nitric oxide to endothelin-1 in patients with both SSc and PAH, and determined whether polymorphisms in NOS2 (the nitric oxide synthase 2 gene) are associated with susceptibility to PAH. Endothelin-1 in plasma and nitric oxide metabolites (nitrate and nitrite) in serum were measured. The nitric oxide/endothelin-1 ratio was significantly lower in patients with both SSc and PAH than in patients with SSc only or in healthy control individuals. We confirmed the presence of two single nucleotide polymorphisms at positions -1,026 and -277 and a pentanucleotide repeat (CCTTT) at -2.5 kilobases. There were significant differences in single nucleotide polymorphisms between patients with SSc who had PAH and those who did not, and between patients with both SSc and PAH and healthy control individuals. The CCTTT repeat was significantly shorter in patients with both SSc and PAH than in patients with SSc only or in healthy control individuals. Transcriptional activity were analyzed using the luciferase reporter assay. The transcriptional activity of NOS2 was much greater in fibroblasts transfected by a vector with a long allele of the CCTTT repeat than in those transfected by a vector with a short allele. Polymorphisms in the NOS2 gene are associated with transcriptional activity of the NOS2 gene and with susceptibility to SSc-related PAH

    What do we know about behavioral crises in dementia? A systematic review

    Background: Behavioral crises in dementia are represented by a wide variety of symptoms, regularly require external intervention from professionals, and are reported as a risk factor for hospital admission. Little is known about the factors that are associated with them. Aim: To determine the factors associated with dementia-related behavioral crises. Methods: We searched MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, EMBASE and AMED databases. An additional lateral search including reference lists was conducted. Two researchers screened all records for potential eligibility. Narrative synthesis was used to bring together the findings. Results: Out of the 5544 records identified, 24 articles (18 distinct studies) met the eligibility criteria. Aggression and agitation were the most common behaviors present at crises. Delusions, wandering / absconding and hallucinations were also key behaviors contributing to crises. Behavioral crises predominantly happened in the severe stages of dementia (according to MMSE scores), in people with dementia residing in their own homes and in long-term care, and were the catalyst for admissions to psychiatric inpatient settings, specialist-care units, long-term care settings, or for referrals to psychiatric community services. Lack of consistency in assessment of behavior, and management of agitation/aggression in dementia crises were evident. Conclusion: Interventions to reduce the likelihood of people with dementia-related behaviors reaching crisis point need to focus on both family and care home settings and incorporate aggression and agitation management. Future research should focus on determining the factors that could be addressed to prevent behavioral crises and the interventions and models of care that may help to prevent crises
