The strong coupling regime of twelve flavors QCD
We summarize the results recently reported in Ref.[1] [A. Deuzeman, M.P.
Lombardo, T. Nunes da Silva and E. Pallante,"The bulk transition of QCD with
twelve flavors and the role of improvement"] for the SU(3) gauge theory with
Nf=12 fundamental flavors, and we add some numerical evidence and theoretical
discussion. In particular, we study the nature of the bulk transition that
separates a chirally broken phase at strong coupling from a chirally restored
phase at weak coupling. When a non-improved action is used, a rapid crossover
is observed at small bare quark masses. Our results confirm a first order
nature for this transition, in agreement with previous results we obtained
using an improved action. As shown in Ref.[1], when improvement of the action
is used, the transition is preceded by a second rapid crossover at weaker
coupling and an exotic phase emerges, where chiral symmetry is not yet broken.
This can be explained [1] by the non hermiticity of the improved lattice
Transfer matrix, arising from the competition of nearest-neighbor and
non-nearest neighbor interactions, the latter introduced by improvement and
becoming increasingly relevant at strong coupling and coarse lattices. We
further comment on how improvement may generally affect any lattice system at
strong coupling, be it graphene or non abelian gauge theories inside or
slightly below the conformal window.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, Proceedings of the 30th International Symposium

The scalar glueball operator, the a-theorem, and the onset of conformality
We show that the anomalous dimension of the scalar glueball
operator contains information on the mechanism that leads to the onset of
conformality at the lower edge of the conformal window in a non-Abelian gauge
theory. In particular, it distinguishes whether the merging of an UV and an IR
fixed point -- the simplest mechanism associated to a conformal phase
transition and preconformal scaling -- does or does not occur. At the same
time, we shed light on new analogies between QCD and its supersymmetric
version. In SQCD, we derive an exact relation between and the mass
anomalous dimension , and we prove that the SQCD exact beta function
is incompatible with merging as a consequence of the -theorem; we also
derive the general conditions that the latter imposes on the existence of fixed
points, and prove the absence of an UV fixed point at nonzero coupling above
the conformal window of SQCD. Perhaps not surprisingly, we then show that an
exact relation between and , fully analogous to SQCD,
holds for the massless Veneziano limit of large-N QCD. We argue, based on the
latter relation, the -theorem, perturbation theory and physical arguments,
that the incompatibility with merging may extend to QCD.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures; some imprecisions in the notation fixed, version

Conformal or Confining
We present a lattice study of the phase transitions at zero and nonzero
temperature for the gauge theory with a varying number of flavours
in the fundamental representation of the gauge group. We show that all
results are consistent with a lower edge of the conformal window between
and . A lower edge in this interval is in remarkable agreement
with perturbation theory and recent large- arguments. .Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures. New results added, conclusions strengthened.

Longitudinal flight control with a variable span morphing wing
The present study focuses on the design of a longitudinal flight controller for an unmanned aircraft equipped with dissymmetric variable-span system (VSMW or Variable-Span Morphing Wing). Its primary role consists in the longitudinal flight stabilization of the aeroplane while in levelled cruise flight, although, it was designed to offer longitudinal flight stabilization for other flight phases as well, such as e.g. take-off and landing. The stabilization algorithm relies on the most up-to-date developments in the state-of-the-art LQR and Batz-Kleinman controller techniques to stabilize the aircraft on its intended longitudinal attitude upon any small atmospheric disturbances inflicted. It was designed for the experimental UAV prototype Olharapo equipped with the VSMW, so it can automatically adjust the VSMW overall wingspan in accordance with the flight speed and stabilize the aircraft in the desired attitude, although, its modular concept allows it to be used for different configurations of the aircraft or even for a different aircraft. The development, simulation and testing of the algorithm were done using the MATLAB® software and the aircraft’s stability and control derivatives previously obtained using the XFLR5® software. Minor adaptations of the flight dynamics equations were performed to allow the compatibilization with the VSMW. The required implementation of imposed flight qualities was also performed to ensure proper scaling the controller weight matrix for optimal values. Finally, the algorithm was tested using three different methods: Classic Disturbances Simulation, Sinusoidal Pitch Variation Test Response and Random Pitch Variation Test Response.O presente trabalho consiste na projeção, programação e teste de um controlador de voo
Performance assessment for mountain bike based on WSN and Cloud Technologies
The mountain bike is one of the most used equipment’s in outdoor sports activities. The thesis
describes the design and all development and implementation of Performance Assessment for
Mountain Bike based on Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and Cloud Technologies. The
work presents a distributed sensing system for cycling assessment-providing data for
objective evaluation of the athlete performance during training. Thus a wireless sensor
network attached to the sport equipment provides to the athlete and the coach with
performance values during practice. The sensors placed in biker equipment’s behave as nodes
of a WSN. This is possible with the developing of IoT-based systems in sports, the tracking
and monitoring of athletes in their activities has an important role on his formation as bikers
and helps to increase performance, through the analyze of each session. The implemented
system performs acquisition, processing and transmission, of data using a ZigBee wireless
networks that provide also machine-to-machine communication and data storage in a server
located in the cloud. As in many cycling applications use the phone as a module to get the
values, this work will be a little different making use of phone/tablet to consult information.
The information stored on the cloud server is accessed through a mobile application that
analyses and correlates all metrics calculated using the training data obtained during practice.
Additional information regarding the health status may be also considered. Therefore, the
system permits that athletes perform an unlimited number of trainings that can be accessed at
any time through the mobile application by the bikers and coach. Based on capability of the
system to save a history of the evolution of each athlete during training the system permits to
perform appropriate comparisons between different training sessions and different athlete’s
performances. A tese
Mountain Bike based on WSN and Cloud Technologies.
atleta
