PROTEUS – Creating Distributed Maintenance Systems through an Integration Platform

    Get PDF
International audienceThis paper is based on the results from the project PROTEUS sponsored by the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany under the label of European Commission Initiative ITEA. It presents the architecture and the basic concepts of an integration platform, which constitutes the framework of systems implementing the tasks dedicated to remote maintenance, as well as other applications, for large and medium scale industrial installation. The approach illustrated here is useful for executing any maintenance strategy by implementing the relevant means for controlling workflow between several system components as well as the component's integration itself. The paper first points out the need for designing such a maintenance-oriented platform, continues with a requirements analysis to a global maintenance system followed by the description of the fundamentals of a maintenance application integration system. Finally a sample implementation of a maintenance scenario is given

Towards trustworthy end-to-end communication in industry 4.0

    Get PDF
Industry 4.0 considers integration of IT and control systems with physical objects, software, sensors and connectivity in order to optimize manufacturing processes. It provides advanced functionalities in control and communication for an infrastructure that handles multiple tasks in various locations automatically. Automatic actions require information from trustworthy sources. Thus, this work is focused on how to ensure trustworthy communication from the edge devices to the backend infrastructure. We derive a meta-model based on RAMI 4.0, which is used to describe an end-to-end communication use case for an Industry 4.0 application scenario and to identify dependabilities in case of security challenges. Furthermore, we evaluate secure messaging protocols and the integration of Trusted Platform Module (TPM) as a root of trust for dataexchange. We define a set of representative measurable indicator points based on existing standards and use them for automated dependability detection within the whole system

DATA ACQUISITION FOR THE ARROWHEAD FRAMEWORK

    No full text
The Eclipse Arrowhead Framework combines features of classical control systems and the Industrial Intenet of Things (IIoT). It was developed over several European research projects and has now reached a high degree of maturity. It is based on the basic concept of so-called self-contained local clouds and thus guarantees e.g. real-time data handling, data and system security, automation system engineering and high scalability. We present here a potential core service that enables simple and efficient data acquisition. As part of the Arrowhead Tools research project, this Extended Historian Service was developed to enable an application of data science methods to historical and real-time data in an easy and efficient way. It supports interoperability with classical fieldbuses and other data sources and can be parameterized with a graphical configuration tool

FORMALIZED ENGINEERING OF THE INFORMATION EXCHANGE BETWEEN AUTOMATION AND PLANNING SYSTEMS

    No full text
The article presents an approach on how to facilitate the engineering of data acquisition systems for SMEs. A semi-formal language is introduced, which is used by the management and maintenance staff of industrial companies in order to describe the data processing and routing from automation systems to planning systems. Thus information requirements are defined without ambiguities. The approach enables a parallel configuration of planning and automation systems, which leads to shorter introduction times for the data acquisition systems. The language is a result of a research project and publicly available

EFFICIENT ENGINEERING OF IIOT SYSTEMS BASED ON INTEROPERABILITY STANDARDS

    No full text
Implementation of interoperable devices, as they are used in IIoT and Industry 4.0 networks, is currently a time consuming and difficult work. This article describes methods and technologies for improving the efficiency of this process. The approach proposes to define data structures, groups of equipment component variables and later on component descriptions by use of formal languages. Further on, forms-based on-line editing of specifications is proposed instead of using word processing software. Code generators are then introduced to transform the formal descriptions into parts of the firmware code of the IIoT devices. The proposed approach provides support for standardization organizations and equipment manufacturers

    Middleware for Global e-Maintenance

    No full text
Colloque avec actes et comité de lecture. internationale.International audienceThe industrial globalisation leads to companies organizing their production on distributed sites. To maintain such complex process, some heterogeneous tools exist. The PROTEUS project aims to develop an integration platform facilitating global maintenance. This article gives an overview of the proposed middleware, which fulfils the requirements for global maintenance applications. It is based on Web service technology allowing complex function calls over the World Wide Web. Moreover, some specific services are introduced to handle the different tools and actors involving in maintenance process

D6.3 Definition/Specification of object for the e-maintenance platform

Rapport de contrat. This document provides the methodology proposed for specification of interfaces corresponding to WebServices offered by the Intelligent Core Adaptor. The goal of such a specification is to provide a formal description of offered services and to enumerate the services required from other ICAs. Common methodology will provide sound bases of co-operation between the different WP teams. The methodology enforces a step-wise iterative approach to co-operative design. At each step, a new version of the specification will be added until the expected services match the provided ones. Moreover, thanks to use of commonly understood process, it would be possible to generate automatically the WSDL description documents corresponding to the specified and agreed services
