[Li6(C2N2H8)11.5][Fe4Se8]: the first lithiumcontaining chalcogenidotetraferrate synthesized in solution
The octaÂselenidoÂtetraÂferrate(II/III) with six Li atoms as counter-ions chelated by ethylÂenediÂamine (en, C2H8N2), {[Li6(en)11.5][Fe4Se8]}n, was synthesized from Li, FeSe and Se in an ethylÂenediÂamine solution at room temperature. Its crystal structure was determined at 100â
K and has triclinic (P[\overline{1}]) symmetry. The [Fe4Se8]6â anions show a connectivity comparable to a distorted tetraÂhedral cluster structure. Contact distances are given, and central structure features compared to literature known selenidoferrates with the same anion motif
Unravelling the Role of the Pentafluoroorthotellurate Group as a Ligand in Nickel Chemistry
The pentafluoroorthotellurate group (teflate, OTeF5) is able to form species, for which only the fluoride analogues are known. Despite nickel fluorides being widely investigated, nickel teflates have remained elusive for decades. By reaction of [NiCl4]2â and neat ClOTeF5, we have synthesized the homoleptic [Ni(OTeF5)4]2â anion, which presents a distorted tetrahedral structure, unlike the polymeric [NiF4]2â. This highâspin complex has allowed the study of the electronic properties of the teflate group, which can be classified as a weak/mediumâfield ligand, and therefore behaves as the fluoride analogue also in ligandâfield terms. The teflate ligands in [NEt4]2[Ni(OTeF5)4] are easily substituted, as shown by the formation of [Ni(NCMe)6][OTeF5]2 by dissolving it in acetonitrile. Nevertheless, careful reactions with other conventional ligands have enabled the crystallization of nickel teflate complexes with different coordination geometries, i.e. [NEt4]2[transâNi(OEt2)2(OTeF5)4] or [NEt4][Ni(bpyMe2)(OTeF5)3].Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft

Large-scale synthesis of mixed valence K[FeS] with high dielectric and ferrimagnetic characteristics
High yields of phase-pure K(3)[Fe(2)S(4)] are obtained using a fast, straight-forward, and efficient synthetic technique starting from the binary precursors K(2)S and FeS, and elemental sulphur. The compound indicates soft ferrimagnetic characteristics with magnetization of 15.23 A m(2) kg(â1) at 300 K due to the mixed valence of Fe(II)/Fe(III). Sintering at different temperatures allows the manipulation of the microstructure as well as the ratio of grains to grain boundaries. This results in a variation of dielectric and impedance properties. Samples sintered at 923 K demonstrate a dielectric constant (Îș) of around 1750 at 1 kHz, which lies within the range of well-known high-Îș dielectric materials, and an ionic conductivity of 4 Ă 10(â2) mS cm(â1) at room temperature. The compound has an optical band gap of around 2.0 eV, in agreement with tailored quantum chemical calculations. These results highlight its potential as a material comprising non-toxic and abundant elements for electronic and magnetic applications
Optical and Electrical Properties of A3[VS4] (A = Na, K) Synthesized via a Straightforward and Scalable Solid-State Method
Two literature-known sulfido vanadates, Na3[VS4] and K3[VS4], were obtained through a straightforward and scalable synthetic method. Highly crystalline powders of both compounds were obtained from the homogeneous molten phases of starting materials via aâcomparably rapidâsolid-state technique. Low-temperature structure determination, ambient temperature powder diffraction, and solid-state NMR spectroscopy verify previous structural reports and indicate purity of the obtained samples. Both compounds show semiconductivity with the optical band gap values in the range of 2.1 to 2.3 eV. Experimental values of the ionic conductivity and dielectric constants are Ï = 2.41·10â5 mS·cmâ1, k = 76.52 and Ï = 1.36·10â4 mS·cmâ1, k = 103.67 at ambient temperature for Na3[VS4] and K3[VS4], respectively. It is demonstrated that Na3[VS4] depicts second-order nonlinear optical properties, i.e., second harmonic generation over a broad wavelength spectrum. The results introduce new aspects of sulfido vanadates as multifunctional candidates for potential optical and electrical applications
