Synchronous and Asynchronous Collaboration Technology Use in Teamwork

    Get PDF
As project teams have become dispersed and communication technology has evolved, organizations have increasingly moved towards usage of synchronous communication technologies such as video/web/audio conferencing and instant messaging to facilitate collaboration among team members although usage of asynchronous communication technologies such as electronic mail, wikis, blogs, social networks, and fax continue to play an important role in the exchange of information within teams. Little however is known about the influence of a team member’s task characteristics and extent of usage of such contemporary collaboration technologies on the member’s task outcomes. To explore this gap in literature, this paper draws upon media richness theory to understand the impacts of a project team member’s task characteristics and extent of usage of contemporary collaboration technologies on the member’s task outcomes. This paper also has practical implications that guide the adoption and use of collaboration technologies in organizations

Method: In this retrospective study, medical records of pediatric epileptic patients of Ratchaburi Hospital, Thailand, from October 1, 2014 to August 30, 2017 were examined. To estimate seizure control rate, the patients had to use phenytoin monotherapy regardless of daily dose. For the 2nd study objective, the patients also had to use the recommended dose of 5 – 8 mg/kg/day. Seizure control was defined as having no seizures for a continuous period of 6 months or longer. Serum phenytoin concentration of 10 – 20 mcg/ml was defined as within therapeutic level. Association of phenytoin daily dose with its serum concentration was tested for correlation using Pearson’s product moment correlation analysis. Results: Of 84 participants with phenytoin monotherapy, seizure control rate was 86.90%. Among 57 participants with seizure control and the recommended daily dose, daily doses of phenytoin were significantly, positively correlated with serum concentrations (r = 0.411; P-value = 0.002). Conclusion: Seizure control rate among Thai pediatric epileptic patients using phenytoin monotherapy was relatively high. Daily dose was significantly positively correlated with serum concentration. Keywords: phenytoin, seizure control, daily dose, serum concentration

A knowledge-based e-tutorial system based on the ORM model

At present information technology plays important roles in teaching and learning activities. E-learning systems have the potential to reduce operating costs and train more people.Teachers and students do not have to be in the same place at the same time and the students have the opportunity to perform self-studies and self-evaluation using e-tutorial systems.E-learning systems could be considered expert systems in the sense that they provide expert advice in particular subjects of studies to students. The exploitation of knowledge base and knowledge representation techniques is therefore vital to the development of e-learning systems. This paper presents the development of a knowledge-based e-tutorial system that uses the Object Role Model (ORM) as its knowledge representation. The system provides Physics tutorials. It was implemented in Prolog and the knowledge base is on a relational database server

Educational and Literacy Dimensions of Putian Coastal Folk Songs in Fujian Province, China

This study focuses on the educational and literacy dimensions embedded within Putian coastal folk songs in Fujian Province, China. The study investigates the cultural significance and historical development of these folk songs, employing research methods from musicology and ethnomusicology. With a particular emphasis on the coastal region of Putian, the research aims to uncover the educational value and literacy aspects of these traditional musical compositions. The findings reveal the existence of approximately 196 recorded musical works, with nine songs emerging as the most popular in the region. The article also highlights the list of recognized heirs associated with Putian coastal folk songs. Additionally, the study explores the diverse cultural influences that have shaped Putian’s music, including the ancient Minyue culture, the introduction of Han culture from the Central Plains, and the assimilation of Arab, Persian, and European cultural elements. By analyzing the educational and literacy dimensions of Putian coastal folk songs, this research contributes to understanding how music can serve as a catalyst for education and literacy promotion within cultural contexts

The Influence of Customer and Technology Supply Chain Integration on Social Sustainable Performance with Moderating Role of Organizational Structure

Supply chain management has taken attention of research scholars and emerging concept of greening supply chain activities in response to environmental concerns and social sustainable performance. The study aims to determine the relationship between supply chain integration and sustainable performance of automotive industry of Thailand. The study aims to determine the relationship between supplier integration, customer integration, and technological integration to determine sustainable social performance. The study also entails the moderating role of organizational structure between supplier, customer and technological integration and dependent variable sustainable social performance. The data was collected from automotive manufacturing industry of Thailand and analyzed by using SMART-PLS by measurement model and structural equation modeling techniques. The findings of the study demonstrated that all direct relations between independent and dependent variables were accepted, moderating role of organization structure was also observed, but the results found to be insignificant between customer integration and social sustainable performance at automotive manufacturing industry of Thailand

Observation of high-Tc superconductivity in inhomogeneous combinatorial ceramics

A single-sample synthesis concept based on multi-element ceramic samples can produce a variety of local products. When applied to cuprate superconductors (SC), statistical modelling predicts the occurrence of possible compounds in a concentration range of about 50 ppm. In samples with such low concentrations, determining which compositions are superconducting is a challenging task and requires local probes or separation techniques. Here, we report results from samples with seven components: BaO2, CaCO3, SrCO3, La2O3, PbCO3, ZrO2 and CuO oxides and carbonates, starting from different grain sizes. The reacted ceramics show different phases, particular grain growth, as well as variations in homogeneity and superconducting properties. High-Tc superconductivity up to 118 K was found. Powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) in combination with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) can assign Pb1223 and (Sr,Ca,Ba)0.7-1.0CuO2 phases in inhomogeneous samples milled with 10 mm ball sizes. Rather uniform samples featuring strong grain growth were obtained with 3 mm ball sizes, resulting in Tc =70 K superconductivity of the La(Ba,Ca)2Cu3Ox based phase. Scanning SQUID microscopy (SSM) establishes locally formed superconducting areas at a level of a few microns in inhomogeneous superconducting particles captured by a magnetic separation technique. The present results demonstrate a new synthetic approach for attaining high-Tc superconductivity in compounds without Bi, Tl, Hg, or the need for high-pressure synthesis

Enhanced stability of phenylethyl resorcinol in elastic vesicular formulations

    Get PDF
Purpose: To enhance the stability and reduce photo-degradation of phenylethyl resorcinol (PR) by elastic vesicle formation. Methods: PR solution was stored at different temperatures, pH conditions, and under protected and unprotected natural light. The color of the solution and total active content were investigated. Three types of elastic vesicles, viz, ethosomes, transfersomes and invasomes, were prepared and their sedimentation in formulations and total active content were investigated before and after storage under various conditions for 4 months. The stability of the solutions and vesicular formulations were assessed. Results: PR solution was unstable at pH 9, higher temperature (70 Âą 1 oC) and under natural light. The color of PR solution changed from colorless to orange tone and the PR content decreased. On the other hand, PR entrapped within ethosome, tranfersome and invasome vesicles showed better stability, color change was not observed in the formulations, and PR content remained > 90 %.Conclusion: All the vesicles display reduced degradation of PR under thermal and natural light. Thus, PR vesicular formulation enhances stability and improves the quality of the product for use in topical administration. Keywords: Phenylethyl resorcinol, Degradation, Ethosomes, Transfersomes, Invasomes, Topical administratio
