Reactions of selected eggplant cultivars and lines to verticillium wilt caused by Verticillium dahliae Kleb.
Verticillium wilt caused by the fungus Verticillium dahliae Kleb. leads to decrease in the yield and quality of eggplant, an economically important vegetable in Turkey. To develop eggplant lines that are resistant to or tolerant to verticillium wilt, this study used cultivars K-1, K-2, K-3, K-4, K-5, K-6, K-7 and K-8 in the studies presented here. The wild species Solanum torvum and Solanum sodemeum; the resistant cultivated forms DK-1, DK-2, DK-3, DK-4 and DK-6; and the cultivar DK-5 were also included in the study. For the pathogenicity tests, an isolate of V. dahliae used was identified by PCR at the Plant Protection Department of the Faculty of Agriculture, A. Menderes University. All the plant materials were tested with this isolate in 2004 and again in 2005. Results from the two years were similar; the lowest disease ratio was obtained from the DK-5 line in both years. F1 plants were obtained through hybridisation of cultivar K-1 and line DK-5, which were determined to be respectively susceptible and tolerant to V. dahliae. Next, F2 plants were obtained by selfing F1. In 2006, cultivar K-1, line DK-5, and F1 and F2 plants underwent pathogenicity tests. At the end of the pathogenity test, the disease severity in cultivar K-1 and line DK-5 was similar to that seen in previous years, whereas the yellowing and wilting values of F1 plant leaves, as well as stem isolation and reisolation results, were higher than those of F2 plants. Using a 0 to 5 scale and considering the yellowing area on leaves, the disease severity in F1 plants was determined to be 38%; the severity value ranged from 2 to 6% in 55% of 200 F1 plants and from 36 to 44% in the remaining 45%.Key words: Solanum melongena, Verticillium dahliae, resistance, hybridisation
Back diffusion of electrons in argon subjected to uniform time invariant orthogonal electric and magnetic fields
In this study, the processes of back diffusion in Ar subjected to crossed fields are analyzed by using the Monte Carlo simulation method in the E/N range of 50 to 500 Td (1 Td = 1 × 10–17 V cm2) for 0 \u3c B/N \u3c 25 × 10−19 T cm3. At a given constant E/N, escape factors decrease with an increasing crossed, reduced magnetic field B/N. This reduction in the escape factor is more pronounced in the lower E/N range. Furthermore, the mean number of collisions of back scattered electrons is quite large, and at a given E/N, the mean number of collisions decreases as the crossed B/N increases
Exact solution of Schrodinger equation for modified Kratzer's molecular potential with the position-dependent mass
Exact solutions of Schrodinger equation are obtained for the modified Kratzer
and the corrected Morse potentials with the position-dependent effective mass.
The bound state energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions are
calculated for any angular momentum for target potentials. Various forms of
point canonical transformations are applied. PACS numbers: 03.65.-w; 03.65.Ge;

Transit timing variation analysis of the low-mass brown dwarf KELT-1 b
We investigate whether there is a variation in the orbital period of the short-period brown dwarf-mass KELT-1 b, which is one of the best candidates to observe orbital decay. We obtain 19 high-precision transit light curves of the target using six different telescopes. We add all precise and complete transit light curves from open databases and the literature, as well as the available Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) observations from sectors 17 and 57, to form a transit timing variation (TTV) diagram spanning more than 10 yr of observations. The analysis of the TTV diagram, however, is inconclusive in terms of a secular or periodic variation, hinting that the system might have synchronized. We update the transit ephemeris and determine an informative lower limit for the reduced tidal quality parameter of its host star of Q ′⋆>(8.5±3.9)×106
assuming that the stellar rotation is not yet synchronized. Using our new photometric observations, published light curves, the TESS data, archival radial velocities, and broadband magnitudes, we also update the measured parameters of the system. Our results are in good agreement with those found in previous analyses
Analytical Solutions of Klein-Gordon Equation with Position-Dependent Mass for q-Parameter Poschl-Teller potential
The energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions of the
one-dimensional Klein-Gordon equation with q-parameter Poschl-Teller potential
are analytically obtained within the position-dependent mass formalism. The
parametric generalization of the Nikiforov-Uvarov method is used in the
calculations by choosing a mass distribution.Comment: 10 page
The Structural Function of the Dutch Buttressing of the East Curtain Wall of Elmina Castle, Elmina, Ghana
Elmina Castle is the first of a series of European trading bases along Africa’s west coast, and it is the oldest and best preserved early European building in Sub-Saharan Africa. The structure shows a combination of mud-mortared and lime-mortared sandstone masonry macro elements and has undergone reconstructions and modification throughout time under Portuguese and Dutch occupation. This study focuses on the structural analysis of Elmina Castle’s east curtain wall, which features two massive masonry buttresses built only alongselected portions of the wall. The hypothesis that these buttresses were built in correspondence of deep voids in the foundation bedrock platform is numerically evaluated using pushover analysis. The lateral capacity is determined based on energy considerations using nonlinear FE models in Abaqus/CAE Explicit and concrete damaged plasticity. Results indicate that, at a later Dutch stage of structural modification, loose soil filling might have caused rotational instability of the curtain wall, requiring the addition of the buttresses

Effective Mass Dirac-Morse Problem with any kappa-value
The Dirac-Morse problem are investigated within the framework of an
approximation to the term proportional to in the view of the
position-dependent mass formalism. The energy eigenvalues and corresponding
wave functions are obtained by using the parametric generalization of the
Nikiforov-Uvarov method for any -value. It is also studied the
approximate energy eigenvalues, and corresponding wave functions in the case of
the constant-mass for pseudospin, and spin cases, respectively.Comment: 12 page
(E)-1-(3-Nitrophenyl)ethanone (2-methylphenyl)hydrazone
In the title Schiff base compound, C15H15N3O2, the azomethine double bond adopts an E configuration. The dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings is 13.4 (12)°. In the crystal, molecules are arranged in wave-like layers parallel to (100) without any classical hydrogen bonding
