Macroscopic quantum information processing using spin coherent states
Previously a new scheme of quantum information processing based on spin
coherent states of two component Bose-Einstein condensates was proposed (Byrnes
{\it et al.} Phys. Rev. A 85, 40306(R)). In this paper we give a more detailed
exposition of the scheme, expanding on several aspects that were not discussed
in full previously. The basic concept of the scheme is that spin coherent
states are used instead of qubits to encode qubit information, and manipulated
using collective spin operators. The scheme goes beyond the continuous variable
regime such that the full space of the Bloch sphere is used. We construct a
general framework for quantum algorithms to be executed using multiple spin
coherent states, which are individually controlled. We illustrate the scheme by
applications to quantum information protocols, and discuss possible
experimental implementations. Decoherence effects are analyzed under both
general conditions and for the experimental implementation proposed.Comment: published in Optics Communication August 201
Effect of Rust Inhibitor in Brine on Corrosion Properties of Copper
In this study, the effects of rust inhibitors in brine on corrosion behaviors of copper were investigated by measurement of cathode and anode polarization curves and an immersion test. For rust inhibitors, benzotriazole, sodium benzoate and sodium nitrite were prepared. From measurement results of cathode and anode polarization curves, it was found that the corrosion rate of copper in the benzotriazole solution is low and a stable passive film with excellent corrosion resistance generates on the surface of copper in the solution. In the case of the sodium benzoate solution, the corrosion resistance of the passive film was inferior to that in the benzotriazole solution although the passive film generated on the surface of copper. In contrast, the passive film scarcely generated on the surface of copper in the sodium nitrite solution. The result shows that the rust preventive effect of the solution to copper is weak. Furthermore, the immersion test revealed that the benzotriazole solution has the rust preventive effect to copper. In contrast, the effect of the sodium benzoate solution is weak and that of the sodium nitrite solution is scarcely expected
Suzaku X-Ray Spectroscopy of a Peculiar Hot Star in the Galactic Center Region
We present the results of a Suzaku study of a bright point-like source in the
6.7 keV intensity map of the Galactic center region. We detected an intense
FeXXV 6.7 keV line with an equivalent width of ~1 keV as well as emission lines
of highly ionized Ar and Ca from a spectrum obtained by the X-ray Imaging
Spectrometer. The overall spectrum is described very well by a heavily absorbed
(~2x10^{23}cm^{-2}) thin thermal plasma model with a temperature of 3.8+/-0.6
keV and a luminosity of ~3x10^{34} erg s^{-1} (2.0--8.0 keV) at 8 kpc. The
absorption, temperature, luminosity, and the 6.7 keV line intensity were
confirmed with the archived XMM-Newton data. The source has a very red
(J-Ks=8.2 mag) infrared spectral energy distribution (SED), which was fitted by
a blackbody emission of ~1000 K attenuated by a visual extinction of ~31 mag.
The high plasma temperature and the large X-ray luminosity are consistent with
a wind-wind colliding Wolf-Rayet binary. The similarity of the SED to those of
the eponymous Quintuplet cluster members suggests that the source is a WC-type
source.Comment: Accepted for publication on PASJ Vol.60, SP-1, 200
Cosmological constant and gravitational theory on D-brane
In a toy model we derive the gravitational equation on a self-gravitating
curved D-brane. The effective theory on the brane is drastically changed from
the ordinal Einstein equation. The net cosmological constant on the brane
depends on a tuning between the brane tension and the brane charges. Moreover,
non-zero matter stress tensor exists if the net cosmological constant is not
zero. This fact indicates a direct connection between matters on the brane and
the dark energy.Comment: 6 pages, minor corrections, accepted for publication in Physical

Spacetime dynamics and baryogenesis in braneworld
We point out that the effective theory for the Randall-Sundrum braneworld
models with bulk fields contains the baryon number violation process depending
on the spacetime dynamics. Combining to the curvature-current interaction, the
net baryon number observed today may be explained. The resultant baryon to
entropy ratio is determined by the ratio of the Planck scales in four
dimensional and five dimensional spacetime except for the parameter for CP
violation.Comment: 8 pages, references adde
Collagen of Chronically Inflamed Skin Is Over-Modified and Upregulates Secretion of Matrix Metalloproteinase 2 and Matrix-Degrading Enzymes by Endothelial Cells and Fibroblasts
In order to investigate the properties of collagen in chronically inflamed tissue, we isolated collagen from the ear skin of mice with chronic contact dermatitis and examined its biochemical characteristics and the functions that regulate the secretion of matrix metalloproteinase 2 and collagen-degrading enzymes from endothelial cells and fibroblasts. Collagen in skin with chronic contact dermatitis comprised 60% type I collagen and 40% type III collagen, which latter is higher than the content of type III collagen in control skin (35%). The denaturation temperature was higher (42°C) than that of control skin (39°C). The α2 chain of type I collagen was over-hydroxylated at both proline and lysine residues. Segment-long-spacing crystallites of type I collagen were unusually connected in tandem. Collagen of chronically inflamed skin was less susceptible to matrix metalloproteinase 2 after heat denaturation. Endothelial cells and fibroblasts secreted an increased amount of matrix metalloproteinase 2 when cultured on a gel formed from the collagen of chronically inflamed skin. Collagen-degrading activity secreted from fibroblasts was also upregulated when cells were in contact with collagen of chronically inflamed skin. These results suggest that the collagen in chronically inflamed tissue has altered biochemical characteristics and functions, which may affect the pathogenesis of the chronic skin disease
