Low-density, one-dimensional quantum gases in a split trap
We investigate degenerate quantum gases in one dimension trapped in a
harmonic potential that is split in the centre by a pointlike potential. Since
the single particle eigenfunctions of such a system are known for all strengths
of the central potential, the dynamics for non-interacting fermionic gases and
low-density, strongly interacting bosonic gases can be investigated exactly
using the Fermi-Bose mapping theorem. We calculate the exact many-particle
ground-state wave-functions for both particle species, investigate soliton-like
solutions, and compare the bosonic system to the well-known physics of Bose
gases described by the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. We also address the
experimentally important questions of creation and detection of such states.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
Local Structure of La1-xSrxCoO3 determined from EXAFS and neutron PDF studies
The combined local structure techniques, extended x-ray absorption fine
structure (EXAFS) and neutron pair distribution function analysis, have been
used for temperatures 4 <= T <= 330 K to rule out a large Jahn-Teller (JT)
distortion of the Co-O bond in La1-xSrxCoO3 for a significant fraction of Co
sites (x <= 0.35), indicating few, if any, JT-active, singly occupied e_g Co

A genome-wide study of HardyâWeinberg equilibrium with next generation sequence data
Statistical tests for HardyâWeinberg equilibrium have been an important tool for detecting genotyping errors in the past, and remain important in the quality control of next generation sequence data. In this paper, we analyze complete chromosomes of the 1000 genomes project by using exact test procedures for autosomal and X-chromosomal variants. We find that the rate of disequilibrium largely exceeds what might be expected by chance alone for all chromosomes. Observed disequilibrium is, in about 60% of the cases, due to heterozygote excess. We suggest that most excess disequilibrium can be explained by sequencing problems, and hypothesize mechanisms that can explain exceptional heterozygosities. We report higher rates of disequilibrium for the MHC region on chromosome 6, regions flanking centromeres and p-arms of acrocentric chromosomes. We also detected long-range haplotypes and areas with incidental high disequilibrium. We report disequilibrium to be related to read depth, with variants having extreme read depths being more likely to be out of equilibrium. Disequilibrium rates were found to be 11 times higher in segmental duplications and simple tandem repeat regions. The variants with significant disequilibrium are seen to be concentrated in these areas. The space group classification of topological band insulators
Topological band insulators (TBIs) are bulk insulating materials which
feature topologically protected metallic states on their boundary. The existing
classification departs from time-reversal symmetry, but the role of the crystal
lattice symmetries in the physics of these topological states remained elusive.
Here we provide the classification of TBIs protected not only by time-reversal,
but also by crystalline symmetries. We find three broad classes of topological
states: (a) Gamma-states robust against general time-reversal invariant
perturbations; (b) Translationally-active states protected from elastic
scattering, but susceptible to topological crystalline disorder; (c) Valley
topological insulators sensitive to the effects of non-topological and
crystalline disorder. These three classes give rise to 18 different
two-dimensional, and, at least 70 three-dimensional TBIs, opening up a route
for the systematic search for new types of TBIs.Comment: Accepted in Nature Physic
Development of an IS change reason - IS change type combination matrix
Firms change their information systems (IS) for various reasons, ranging from compliance with government regulations to the development of new capabilities. When making these changes a firm can choose between four different IS change types: IS introduction, IS extension, IS replacement, and IS merger. This paper proposes that change reasons and change types are interrelated, and that certain reason-type combinations are more likely than others to result in a successful IS change. To identify these combinations, an IS change reasonâIS change type matrix is developed. While the matrix is created from prior IS research, we conducted a focus group study of IS professionals to further explore and refine the matrix. The findings from the focus group study reveal that some IS change reasonâIS change type combinations are more appropriate than others to carry out the IS change project successfully. We also present three examples of IS change projects to illustrate the use and value of the matrix in practice

Grounded on some of the most prominent adoption models for technological innovations, we developed a conceptual model especially suited for BAI. Based on this we propose an instrument in which relevant hypotheses will be derived and tested by means of statistical analysis. We hope that the findings derived from our analysis may offer important insights for practitioners and researchers regarding the drivers that lead to BAI adoption in firms. Although other studies have already focused on the adoption of technological innovations by firms, research on BAI is scarce, hence the relevancy of our research.authorsversionpublishe

Evidence that breast cancer risk at the 2q35 locus is mediated through IGFBP5 regulation.
GWAS have identified a breast cancer susceptibility locus on 2q35. Here we report the fine mapping of this locus using data from 101,943 subjects from 50 case-control studies. We genotype 276 SNPs using the 'iCOGS' genotyping array and impute genotypes for a further 1,284 using 1000 Genomes Project data. All but two, strongly correlated SNPs (rs4442975 G/T and rs6721996 G/A) are excluded as candidate causal variants at odds against >100:1. The best functional candidate, rs4442975, is associated with oestrogen receptor positive (ER+) disease with an odds ratio (OR) in Europeans of 0.85 (95% confidence interval=0.84-0.87; P=1.7 Ă 10(-43)) per t-allele. This SNP flanks a transcriptional enhancer that physically interacts with the promoter of IGFBP5 (encoding insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 5) and displays allele-specific gene expression, FOXA1 binding and chromatin looping. Evidence suggests that the g-allele confers increased breast cancer susceptibility through relative downregulation of IGFBP5, a gene with known roles in breast cell biology
Knowledge transfer of eLearning objects: Lessons learned from an intercontinental capacity building project
Background
Effective knowledge transfer of eLearning objects can hasten the adoption and dissemination of technology in teaching and learning. However, challenges exist which hinder inter-organisational knowledge transfer, particularly across continents. The ACoRD project aimed to transfer knowledge on digital learning development from UK/EU (provider) to Malaysian (receiver) higher education institutions (HEIs). This study explores the challenges encountered during the knowledge transfer process and lessons learned.
Methods
This is a qualitative study involving both the knowledge providers and receivers in focus group discussions (n = 25). Four focus group discussions were conducted in the early (n = 2) and mid-phase (n = 2) of the project by trained qualitative researchers using a topic guide designed to explore experiences and activities representing knowledge transfer in multi-institutional and multi-cultural settings. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and checked. The transcripts were analysed using thematic analysis.
Results
Five main themes emerged from this qualitative study: mismatched expectations between providers and receivers; acquiring new knowledge beyond the professional "comfort zone"; challenges in cascading newly acquired knowledge to colleagues and management; individual and organisational cultural differences; and disruption of knowledge transfer during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conclusion
This study highlights the need to create a conducive platform to facilitate continuous, timely and bi-directional needs assessment and feedback; this should be done in the early phase of the knowledge transfer process. The challenges and strategies identified in this study could guide more effective knowledge transfer between organisations and countries.publishedVersio
