On Fourteen Monostiliferous Hoplonemerteans from the Izu Peninsula, Middle Japan

Of the fourteen species dealt with in this paper, two (Amphiporus cervicalis, Nipponnemertes punctatulus) have previously been reported from Japan; three others (A. imparispinosus, N. pulchra, Tetrastemma melanocephalum) are added to the fauna. Four species (Emplectonema mitsuii, Paranemertes katoi, N. ogumai, T. roseocephalum) have been discussed by Crandall, Kajihara, Mawatari, and Iwata (2001). Three of the nemerteans (A cervicalis, A. imparispinosus, N. punctatulus) are known to occur in the eastern North Pacific, and two were originally found in Europe. Five species, belonging to the genera Paranemertes, Amphiporus, Nipponnemertes, and Tetrastemma, though long known from the Japanese fauna, have not yet been given specific names

Chemical Analysis of Staphylococcus aureus II. Preparation and Chemical Analysis of the Antigenic Polysaccharides of Staphylococcus aureus.

    1. From two strains of Staphylococcus aureus which were isolated from pathogenic and non-pathogenic origins, two kinds of somatic polysaccharides were prepared by extraction with hot formamide, followed by alcohol fractionation. One was a specific antigenic polysaccharide and the other serologically inert. 2. By chemical analysis, paper electrophoresis and ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy it was indicated that these polysaccharide preparations are polysaccharide-protein complex. The serologically inert polysaccharide preparations were abundant in protein moiety. 3. The antigenic polysaccharide of the strain isolated from pathogenic origin was composed of (N-acetyl-) glucosarnine, galactose, glucose, and xylose, whereas that from non-pathogenic origin lacked in xylose out of above four sugars. The inert polysaccharides of the both strains contained all of there four sugars. 4. Seventeen kinds of usual amino acids were identified in the protein moieties of the inert polysaccharide preparations from the both strains. This amino acid composition was precisely agree to that of whole cell proteins of these strains. 5. On the significations of that xylose is present in the antigenic polysaccharide preparation isolated from the strain of pathogenic origin, it was discussed making some references to the pathogenicity of Staphylococcus aures.departmental bulletin pape

Current strategies for non-pharmacological therapy of long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation

AbstractNon-pharmacological rhythm control of atrial fibrillation (AF) is becoming increasingly important in our aging society. Advancement of catheter ablation techniques in the last decade has provided a cure for AF patients, with a nearly established efficiency for paroxysmal cases. However, since ablation of persistent/chronic AF cases is still challenging, early treatment of paroxysmal AF before transformation to the persistent/chronic form is mandatory. Although there is a consensus that pulmonary vein isolation is the first-line approach for ablation of long-standing persistent AF, similar to that for paroxysmal AF, there are still wide variations in the adjunctive approach to modify the atrial substrate of persistent AF (anatomical linear ablation, electrogram-based complex fractionated atrial electrogram ablation, ganglionated plexus ablation, etc.). Since data comparing the effectiveness of these adjunctive approaches are still lacking, large-scale controlled trials evaluating the effect of catheter ablation in diverse patient populations on a long-term basis are needed to establish the appropriate approach for long-standing persistent AF. Furthermore, the development of de novo ablation methods (new energies, new targets, etc.) is expected to improve ablation outcome in patients with long-standing persistent AF

Stable extendibility of vector bundles over RPn and the stable splitting problem

AbstractLet F be the real number field R or the complex number field C, and let RPn denote the real projective n-space. In this paper, we study the conditions for a given F-vector bundle over RPn to be stably extendible to RPm for every m>n, and establish the formulas on the power ζr=ζ⊗⋯⊗ζ (r-fold) of an F-vector bundle ζ over RPn. Our results are improvements of the previous papers [T. Kobayashi, H. Yamasaki, T. Yoshida, The power of the tangent bundle of the real projective space, its complexification and extendibility, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 134 (2005) 303–310] and [Y. Hemmi, T. Kobayashi, Min Lwin Oo, The power of the normal bundle associated to an immersion of RPn, its complexification and extendibility, Hiroshima Math. J. 37 (2007) 101–109]. Furthermore, we answer the stable splitting problem for F-vector bundles over RPn by means of arithmetic conditions
