    Re-compression Based JPEG Forgery Detection and Localization with Optimal Reconstruction

    In today’s media–saturated society, digital images act as the primary carrier for majority of information that flows around us. However, because of the advent of highly sophisticated easy–to–use image processing tools, modifying images has become easy. Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) is the most widely used format, prevalent today as a world–wide standard, for compression and storage of digital images. Almost all present–day digital cameras use the JPEG format for image acquisition and storage, due to its efficient compression features and optimal space requirement. In this propose work we aim to detect malicious tampering of JPEG images, and subsequently reconstruct the forged image optimally. We deal with lossy JPEG image format in this paper, which is more widely adopted compared to its lossless counter–part. The proposed technique is capable of detecting single as well as multiple forged regions in a JPEG image. We aim to achieve optimal reconstruction since the widely used JPEG being a lossy technique, under no condition would allow 100% reconstruction. The proposed reconstruction is optimal in the sense that we aim to obtain a form of the image, as close to its original form as possible, apart from eliminating the effects of forgery from the image. In this work, we exploit the inherent characteristics of JPEG compression and re–compression, for forgery detection and reconstruction of JPEG images. To prove the efficiency of our proposed technique we compare it with the other JPEG forensic techniques and using quality metric measures we assess the visual quality of the reconstructed image

    A Survey on Coordinated Charging Methods for Electric Vehicles

    Electric vehicles (EVs) is regarded as one of the most effective ways to reduce oil and gas use. EVs (electric vehicles) have many advantages over ICEVs (internal combustion engine vehicles), including zero pollution, little noise, and exceptional energy efficiency. Even though an EV is known to have a three times higher fuel efficiency than an ICEV, the driving range is often significantly lower because batteries have a lower energy density than gasoline or diesel. Over the next few decades, it is anticipated that the number of electric vehicles will increase significantly due to concerns about pollution and technological advancements in the sector. Utilizing a variety of energy sources will boost energy security while reducing emissions and fuel usage. A paradigm shift has been observed with the switch from internal combustion to electric car technology. For electric vehicles to become widely used, a charging infrastructure must be developed. However, there is a cap on the amount of electricity that can be used to charge the vehicles in a charging station. Rearranging charging times, specifically charging coordination can help optimize the distribution of the available power among the vehicles.     This study aims to describe the supply chain of coconut wood-based furniture (Case Study at the Technical Education Training Center or Kaaten BLPT, Tomohon City). This research was conducted forthree months from September to November 2017. The data used are primary and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through direct observation in the field and direct interviews with one coconutfarmer and two employees of the Technical Education Training Center (BLPT), so that the total respondents were three people. Secondary data is obtained from the company documents. The results showed that Supply Chain Furniture made from coconut wood from the BLPT Kaaten consists of four Main Chains, namely: Suppliers; Producer; Expedition Services; and End Consumers; with details starting from (a) Supplier of coconut wood raw materials spread in several regions, including Lemoh,Tanawangko, Airmadidi, Kembes, Tenggari, Kaima, Bitung, Lolak and Belang, (b) BLPT Kaaten for purchasing, production, sales, and shipping, (c) Expedition Services to send products from the port of Bitung outside the Sulawesi region, Java Island and to be exported to the destination country, (d) End Consumers. Two of the three streams found in the process of implementing Supply Chain Management are well managed, namely the flow of goods / products and information flow.     A report on injuries and illnesses among athletes and games officials during XII South Asian Games-2016, Shillong, India

    Background: The 12th South Asian Games (SAG) was held from February 5-16, 2016 in Guwahati and Shillong. International level mega-events bring people of different background to a single geographic location after extensive travel. Surveillance and measures for primary and secondary prevention of injuries and illnesses by the organizers and host country is highly desirable. There is no such previous published report on South Asian games. The study was conducted with the aim to analyse the medical arrangements and report injuries and illnesses in athletes and games officials during the South Asian Games-2016 at Shillong venue.Methods: : It is a retrospective study from all daily records of injuries and illnesses reported to the principal referral hospital designated to treat all significant injuries and illnesses for games officials and athletes from all eight participating countries staying in Shillong.Results: Eight major sports were conducted in Shillong that included Badminton, Boxing, Football, Judo, Taekwondo and Wushu. The average age of the injured athletes or ill officials combined was 27.5 years. Male to female ratio was approximately 7:3. There were a total of 65 injuries (59.6%) out of 109 hospital visits including six dislocations involving the upper limbs, but only one athlete required hospitalization. Athletes from three major contact sports namely taekwondo, football and wushu dominated the injured list. A significant number of games officials had injuries and medical illnesses, some requiring hospitalization.Conclusions: Thorough planning for befitting medical care arrangements is indispensable for successful conduct of any major sports event. Significant training, sensitization, preparedness, knowledge-based manpower and infrastructure are needed for adequate medical coverage before, during and after the schedule of any major sports events.

    Snake Bite in South Asia: A Review

    Snake bite is one of the most neglected public health issues in poor rural communities living in the tropics. Because of serious misreporting, the true worldwide burden of snake bite is not known. South Asia is the world's most heavily affected region, due to its high population density, widespread agricultural activities, numerous venomous snake species and lack of functional snake bite control programs. Despite increasing knowledge of snake venoms' composition and mode of action, good understanding of clinical features of envenoming and sufficient production of antivenom by Indian manufacturers, snake bite management remains unsatisfactory in this region. Field diagnostic tests for snake species identification do not exist and treatment mainly relies on the administration of antivenoms that do not cover all of the important venomous snakes of the region. Care-givers need better training and supervision, and national guidelines should be fed by evidence-based data generated by well-designed research studies. Poorly informed rural populations often apply inappropriate first-aid measures and vital time is lost before the victim is transported to a treatment centre, where cost of treatment can constitute an additional hurdle.     For over half a century Gandhi has been one of the favored characters of a number of films – Nine hours to Rama (1963) to Gandhi, My Father (2007). Gandhian ethos, life and teachings are frequently represented in varied ways in different films. The portrayal of Gandhi in different films can be grouped into two broad categories: i. revolving around his life, percept and practice as one category and ii. involving his ideas, ideals and views either explicitly or implicitly. The first category of the films include three broad films—Gandhi (1982), The Making of the Mahatma (1996) and Gandhi My Father (2007) and the other category of the films include Nine Hours to Rama (1963- English), Jinnah (1998- English), Sardar (1993), Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000), Hey Ram (2000), Lage Raho Munnabhai, (2006) etc.  Grounded in the theory of inter-textuality through moving image method, the present study is a comparative analysis of examining the portrayal of Gandhi among the first category of three films ---Gandhi (1982- English) by Richard Attenborough, The Making of the Mahatma (1996) by Shyam Benegal and Gandhi, My Father (2007) by Feroz Abbas Khan with crisscross critiquing of the portrayal of Gandhi in the second category of films. Using Bingham’s (2010) discursive analysis on biopic films, the study seeks to show how Gandhi is perceived and depicted through the lenses of these three eminent directors vis-à-vis others from the point of intertextuality both ideologically and politically. Further the study would elaborate how different personal and social events in Gandhi’s life are weaved together by these directors to bring out the character of Bapu or Mahatma from Gandhi.     Correlation of serum ferritin with severity of liver disease

    Background and Aim: Serum ferritin is a marker of hepatic inflammation and has been studied to predict mortality in decompensated cirrhotics. No study has been done to evaluate ferritin as an independent marker of liver disease severity. We investigated whether serum ferritin levels can be correlated with Child–Pugh and Model for End-stage Liver Disease (MELD) scores. Materials and Methods: Seventy-five patients fulfilling the criteria were included and a cross-sectional observational study was done. Results: Seventy-five patients (68 males and 7 females) were evaluated. Serum ferritin levels were found to be significantly elevated in patients having higher Child–Pugh and MELD scores and showed a significant correlation with Child–Pugh score (P = 0.001) and MELD score (P = 0.027). On univariate analysis, serum ferritin, bilirubin, international normalized ratio, ascites, and sodium were found to be significantly associated with severity of liver disease. On multivariate analysis, however, serum ferritin was not found to have a significant association with severity of liver disease. AUROC was also determined which showed that serum ferritin had relatively poor discriminative ability. Conclusion: Elevation of serum ferritin is prevalent in chronic liver disease (CLD). In patients of CLD, severity is associated with a higher serum ferritin level. In future, a study may be designed, to obtain a prognostic model in incorporating serum ferritin into MELD similar to MELD-Na scoring system
