The Role of the City in Fostering Intergroup Communication in a Multicultural Environment: Saint-Petersburg’s Case
In this paper two aspects of the issue will be discussed. First, there is the role of authorities, NGOs in forming the multicultural environment in the city with cultural diversity. Second, the city as social context, the images and myths of the city determine discourse on multiculturalism and influence the cross-cultural communication in the city. After describing historically shaped images of the city, employment of city’s myths and symbols in discourse and policy of multiculturalism, and role of city’s institutions in fostering inter-group communication, this paper will discuss the inclusive culture of the city, shaped by the networking interaction, which blurs the distinction between «insiders» and «outsiders». Here the trends of (post)modern inter/trans-national relations will be extrapolated on the trans-cultural interaction in the multicultural city, taking into consideration that network interactions build up not between the territories, but in the space, where logic of borders overcomes.Multicultural, Identity, Image, Myth, Discourse, We-groups, Inclusive networks, Inclusive culture, Transnational interaction, Transnational civil society

Multiwavelength evidence for a 15-year periodic activity in the symbiotic nova V1016 Cygni
The ~15.1 years period found in the long-term UBV photoelectric and
photographic photometry of the symbiotic nova V1016 Cyg is detected also in the
(J-K) colour index and in the UV continuum and emission line fluxes from IUE
and HUT spectra. It could be interpreted either as the effect of recurrent
enhanced mass loss episodes from the Mira type variable companion to a hot
component along its ultra-wide orbit (proposed from recent HST observations) or
the true orbital period of the inner, unresolved binary of a triple system. A
410-day delay of the maximum of UV emission lines fluxes with respect to the
maximum of continuum was found. The pulsation period of the Mira type variable

Reverberation measurement of the inner radius of the dust torus in NGC 4151 during 2008-2013
We investigate the correlation between infrared (JHKL) and optical (B) fluxes
of the variable nucleus of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151 using partially
published data for the last 6 years (2008-2013.). Here we are using the same
data as in Oknyansky et al. (2014), but include also optical (B) data from Guo
et al. We find that the lag of flux in all the infrared bands is the same, 40
+- 6 days, to within the measurement accuracy. Variability in the J and K bands
is not quite simultaneous, perhaps due to the differing contributions of the
accretion disk in these bands. The lag found for the K band compared with the B
band is not significantly different from earlier values obtained for the period
2000-2007. However, finding approximately the same lags in all IR bands for
2008-2013 differs from previous results at earlier epochs when the lag
increased with increasing wavelength. Examples of almost the same lag in
different IR bands are known for some other active nuclei. In the case of NGC
4151 it appears that the relative lags between the IR bands may be different in
different years. The available data, unfortunately, do not allow us to
investigate a possible change in the lags during the test interval. We discuss
our results in the framework of the standard model where the variable infrared
radiation is mainly due to thermal re-emission from the part of the dusty torus
closest to the central source. There is also a contribution of some IR emission
from the accretion disk, and this contribution increases with decreasing

The spectral energy distribution of D-type symbiotic stars: the role of dust shells
We have collected continuum data of a sample of D-type symbiotic stars. By
modelling their spectral energy distribution in a colliding-wind theoretical
scenario we have found the common characteristics to all the systems: 1) at
least two dust shells are clearly present, one at \sim 1000 K and the other at
\sim 400 K; they dominate the emission in the IR; 2) the radio data are
explained by thermal self-absorbed emission from the reverse shock between the
stars; while 3) the data in the long wavelength tail come from the expanding
shock outwards the system; 4) in some symbiotic stars, the contribution from
the WD in the UV is directly seen. Finally, 5) for some objects soft X-ray
emitted by bremsstrahlung downstream of the reverse-shock between the stars are
predicted. The results thus confirm the validity of the colliding wind model
and the important role of the shocks. The comparison of the fluxes calculated
at the nebula with those observed at Earth reveals the distribution throughout
the system of the different components, in particular the nebulae and the dust
shells. The correlation of shell radii with the orbital period shows that
larger radii are found at larger periods. Moreover, the temperatures of the
dust shells regarding the sample are found at 1000 K and <=400 K, while, in the
case of late giants, they spread more uniformly throughout the same range.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables. Accepted for publication in MNRA
