NEEDS IN DENTAL SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY IN POLAND (EVALUATION ATTEMPT)
The aim of the article is to formulate a model approach of determining the needs in dental
service for the elderly population groups. Within the period of system transformation in Poland
the persons belonging to this group happen to experience particularly difficult position and the
rank of the problem is very serious and, as such, it is being widely commented throughout the
world literature. Adequate national research studies as well as those made by the WHO indicate
both unfavourable position of Poland in rankings of general and particular health state and especially
- of dentistry.
The Authors have undertaken an arduous attempt of quantifying respective needs and presented
the results of statistical verification of a model of these needs
On the multicorrelation method for the estimate of regional labour force resources
The decision making with respect to an economic region requires a full knowledge of its labour potential resources. Hence the subject of this paper are the methods and some fragments of the results obtained in the process of evaluating the regional labour force resources with a simultaneous attempt to show and
prove the possibility of using â in estimating them â the multicorrelation method, known in statistics (with a tacit assumption of a linear succession of resources in the long run). At the beginning the authors have given the definitions of potential and real labour force resources of a region, what in turn proved to be helpful in formulating the remarks concerning the premises on which the method of evaluating the resources is resting. The extrapolation of resources takes into consideration two points of depart: â extrapolation of prevailing tendency in resources, â extrapolation of factors determining the resources and next the computation of the resources themselves. For illustration purposes as well as for bringing into the relief the pecularities in the tendencies of examined resources â numerical examples relating to the whole of Poland and France have been given. In the estimation of the region's labour resources a method of multicorrelation can be used, in which the resources are circumscribed by factors known as essential. The acceptance of such a uniform method in many regions helps to get orientated in the size of labour resources in larger economic bodies.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszytĂłw RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201
Economic dimension of military expenses
Out of the whole of problems of the interdependences chain between policy and economy on
one hand and the defense sector on the other - the following questions are of particularly immediate
interest:
â modernization of defense sector and its adaptation to requirements of the predominant military
group (i.e. NATO),
â change of expenses structure (as in its value formulation) from the point of view of their
position in the budget.
While the first problem is of more technical character and is closely connected with professional
military staff and professional technicians, the problems of a feedback between defense sector
and the economy need some deeper studies and research efforts within different study groups.
Just this is a reason for preliminary attempt to have a good look on the interdependences between
defense sector and the State budget.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszytĂłw RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201

Salvage Hyperthermic Gemcitabine and Docetaxel Combination Chemotherapy After BCG Failure in Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer Patients
BACKGROUND: Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is the recommended therapy for high and intermediate risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), but treatment failure is common. While a radical cystectomy is recommended after BCG failure, some patients desire bladder preservation and others are poor surgical candidates. Salvage chemotherapy treatments may be offered to this subgroup of patients. OBJECTIVE: To assess if combination, hyperthermic Gemcitabine and Docetaxel chemotherapy (GEM/DOCE) is a safe and effective salvage option for treating NMIBC. METHODS: Sixty patients who received our GEM/DOCE protocol between 2007-2017 were identified (51 BCG failures, 9 BCG naive). This study measured overall treatment success, defined as no recurrence, progression, cystectomy, nor death due to bladder cancer. Kaplan-Meier curves were used to ascertain probability of treatment success. The log-rank test was used to identify factors associated with treatment success. RESULTS: Sixty patients received treatment with a median follow-up of 14.9 months. All patients completed the induction course with no significant adverse effects. Overall treatment success was 83% at first surveillance, 69% at 1 year, and 55% at 2 years in the entire cohort, and 90% at first surveillance, 74% at 1 year, and 56% at 2 years in the BCG-failure patients. All-cause and bladder-cancer-specific survival were both 97.9% at 1 year, 85.9% and 94.6% respectively at 2 years. Three patients underwent cystectomy at a median of 10.2 months, two of these were secondary to recurrences. Three patients had progression of their disease. CONCLUSIONS: Hyperthermic GEM/DOCE seems to be a well-tolerated salvage regimen that demonstrates a reasonable efficacy and warrants further investigation.Open access articleThis item from the UA Faculty Publications collection is made available by the University of Arizona with support from the University of Arizona Libraries.
