Deriving Effective Energy Loss Function for Silver from XPS Spectrum
AbstractXPS spectra of silver excited by synchrotron irradiation with energy same as Al Kα X-ray has been measured. After filtering spectrum noise, the inelastic background starting from the lower binding energy of photoelectrons is removed by an iteration procedure. The energy loss spectrum for a single sub-shell photoelectron is then extracted from the Ag 3p XPS spectrum. Based on this single sub-shell photoelectron energy loss spectrum the effective energy loss function (EELF) is obtained by the extended Landau approach. Monte Carlo simulation with the derived EELF can reproduce well the experimental XPS spectrum
From double Lie groupoids to local Lie 2-groupoids
We apply the bar construction to the nerve of a double Lie groupoid to obtain
a local Lie 2-groupoid. As an application, we recover Haefliger's fundamental
groupoid from the fundamental double groupoid of a Lie groupoid. In the case of
a symplectic double groupoid, we study the induced closed 2-form on the
associated local Lie 2-groupoid, which leads us to propose a definition of a
symplectic 2-groupoid.Comment: 23 pages, a few minor changes, including a correction to Lemma 6.
The Synthesis and Characterization of LiFeAs and NaFeAs
The newest homologous series of superconducting As-pnictides, LiFeAs (Li111)
and NaFeAs (Na111) have been synthesized and investigated. Both crystallize
with the layered tetragonal anti-PbFCl-type structure in P4/nmm space group.
Polycrystalline samples and single-crystals of Li111 and Na111 display
superconducting transitions at ~ 18 K and 12-25 K, respectively. No magnetic
order has been found in either compound, although a weak magnetic background is
clearly in evidence. The origin of the carriers and the stoichiometric
compositions of Li111 and Na111 were explored.Comment: submitted for publication in Physica C special issue on Fe-pnictide
Measurements of the Mass and Full-Width of the Meson
In a sample of 58 million events collected with the BES II detector,
the process J/ is observed in five different decay
channels: , , (with ), (with

channels, we determine the mass and full-width of to be
MeV/ and
MeV/.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures and 4 table. Submitted to Phys. Lett.
A Measurement of Psi(2S) Resonance Parameters
Cross sections for e+e- to hadons, pi+pi- J/Psi, and mu+mu- have been
measured in the vicinity of the Psi(2S) resonance using the BESII detector
operated at the BEPC. The Psi(2S) total width; partial widths to hadrons,
pi+pi- J/Psi, muons; and corresponding branching fractions have been determined
to be Gamma(total)= (264+-27) keV; Gamma(hadron)= (258+-26) keV, Gamma(mu)=
(2.44+-0.21) keV, and Gamma(pi+pi- J/Psi)= (85+-8.7) keV; and Br(hadron)=
(97.79+-0.15)%, Br(pi+pi- J/Psi)= (32+-1.4)%, Br(mu)= (0.93+-0.08)%,
respectively.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
Partial wave analysis of J/\psi \to \gamma \phi \phi
Using events collected in the BESII detector, the
radiative decay is
studied. The invariant mass distribution exhibits a near-threshold
enhancement that peaks around 2.24 GeV/.
A partial wave analysis shows that the structure is dominated by a
state () with a mass of
GeV/ and a width of GeV/. The
product branching fraction is: .Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. corrected proof for journa
Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-
We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi -->
D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7
J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal
above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the
branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi
--> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
A study of charged kappa in
Based on events collected by BESII, the decay
is studied. In the invariant mass
spectrum recoiling against the charged , the charged
particle is found as a low mass enhancement. If a Breit-Wigner function of
constant width is used to parameterize the kappa, its pole locates at MeV/. Also in this channel,
the decay is observed for the first time.
Its branching ratio is .Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure
Measurements of psi(2S) decays to octet baryon-antibaryon pairs
With a sample of 14 million psi(2S) events collected by the BESII detector at
the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), the decay channels psi(2S)->p
p-bar, Lambda Lambda-bar, Sigma0 Sigma0-bar, Xi Xi-bar are measured, and their
branching ratios are determined to be (3.36+-0.09+-0.24)*10E-4,
(3.39+-0.20+-0.32)*10E-4, (2.35+-0.36+-0.32)*10E-4, (3.03+-0.40+-0.32)*10E-4,
respectively. In the decay psi(2S)->p p-bar, the angular distribution parameter
alpha is determined to be 0.82+-0.17+-0.04.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
