Hearth: A Game Supporting Non-Intrusive and Concurrent Tracking of Player Emotion and Mouse Usage

Empirical evidence has supported the idea that eSports players\u27 emotions could be reflected in their mouse usage. Still, findings from IS literature on the exact relationships between users\u27 mouse usage patterns and their emotional states have been mixed. Possible causes include adjustment effects and offsetting effects. To address these problems, this study proposes a self-developed game named Hearth, which supports non-intrusive and concurrent tracking of players\u27 emotions and mouse usage. The game design supports the examination of the two possible effects. Results show that negative emotion was positively associated with the total mouse movement distance in a game turn, average task-level distance, and average task-level speed. Moreover, the open-source game proposed in this study facilitates further data collection from natural experiments due to its triadic design that addresses reality, meaning, and play

Incentive Decision on Safety Investment of Supply Chain of Agricultural Products in “Agricultural Super-Docking”

Since the “agriculture super-docking” mode was introduced in China in 2007, remarkable success has been made in reducing the transaction cost and improving the quality safety of agricultural products. However, the quality safety issues of agricultural products still occur frequently because both specialized farmers’ cooperatives and supermarkets have insufficient safety investment. In order to study the necessity, goal, and incentive decision schemes of safety investment in “agriculture super-docking” supply chain, three kinds of models, which include noncooperatives distributed decision-making model, centralized decision-making model, and incentive coordination models led by cooperatives and supermarkets, are, respectively, set up in this paper. Conclusions are drawn as follows: when making the uncooperative decentralized decision, both cooperatives and supermarkets have the moral risks to decrease the safety investment, but appropriate measures can achieve the coordination of the supply chain; when achieving the coordination of supply chain, the two contacts under the guidance of cooperatives and supermarkets are the same, and the schemes of distributing profits are also the same. Moreover, a practical case is given to improve the effectiveness and feasibility of the incentive decision schemes

    Nonlinear dissipation induced photon blockade

We theoretically propose a scheme for photon blockade in a cavity quantum electrodynamical system consisting of an N-type atomic medium interacting with a single-mode Fabry-Perot cavity. In contrast to inefficient nonlinear-dispersion-induced photon blockade suppressed by a large detuning, the photon blockade in our scheme is induced by a large nonlinear dissipation of the cavity created by the N-type atomic system. A deep photon blockade is manifested with a vanishing equal-time second-order correlation function within the cavity linewidth. This work provides an efficient photon blockade because it work in the near-resonance case

Microwave photonic signal generation in an optically injected discrete mode semiconductor laser

This article belongs to the Special Issue Microwave Photonics Applications. In this paper, microwave photonic signal generation based on the period-one dynamic of optically injected discrete mode (DM) semiconductor lasers has been experimentally demonstrated and numerically simulated. The results show that the frequency of the generated microwave increases linearly with the frequency detuning or optical injection ratio. In addition, a single optical feedback loop is sufficient to reduce the microwave linewidth without significantly deteriorating side mode suppression. The simulation results using a model considering the nonlinear dependencies of the carrier recombination agree well with the experimental results, which indicates that the nonlinear carrier recombination effect is important in determining the nonlinear dynamics of optically injected DM lasers. This research was funded in part by the DESTINI project (2017/COL/007) funded by the ERDF under the SMART Expertise scheme; in part by the DSP Centre (82085) funded by the ERDF through the Welsh Government; and in part by Ministerio de Ciencia e InnovaciĂłn, Spain, under grant RTI2018-094118-B-C22 MCIN/AEI/FEDER, UE.Peer reviewe

Myocardial Stunning-Induced Left Ventricular Dyssynchrony On Gated Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography Myocardial Perfusion Imaging

Objectives Myocardial stunning provides additional nonperfusion markers of coronary artery disease (CAD), especially for severe multivessel CAD. The purpose of this study is to assess the influence of myocardial stunning to the changes of left ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony (LVMD) parameters between stress and rest gated single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). Patients and methods A total of 113 consecutive patients (88 males and 25 females) who had undergone both stress and rest 99mTc-sestamibi gated SPECT MPI were retrospectively enrolled. Suspected or known patients with CAD were included if they had exercise stress MPI and moderate to severe myocardial ischemia. Segmental scores were summed for the three main coronary arteries according to standard myocardial perfusion territories, and then regional perfusion, wall motion, and wall thickening scores were measured. Myocardial stunning was defined as both ischemia and wall dysfunction within the same coronary artery territory. Patients were divided into the stunning group (n=58) and nonstunning group (n=55). Results There was no significant difference of LVMD parameters between stress and rest in the nonstunning group. In the stunning group, phase SD and phase histogram bandwidth of contraction were significantly larger during stress than during rest (15.05±10.70 vs. 13.23±9.01 and 46.07±34.29 vs. 41.02±32.16, PP\u3c0.05). Conclusion Both systolic and diastolic LVMD parameters deteriorate with myocardial stunning. This kind of change may have incremental values to diagnose CAD

A controllable superconducting electromechanical oscillator with a suspended membrane

We fabricate a microscale electromechanical system, in which a suspended superconducting membrane, treated as a mechanical oscillator, capacitively couples to a superconducting microwave resonator. As the microwave driving power increases, nonmonotonic dependence of the resonance frequency of the mechanical oscillator on the driving power has been observed. We also demonstrate the optical switching of the resonance frequency of the mechanical oscillator. Theoretical models for qualitative understanding of our experimental observations are presented. Our experiment may pave the way for the application of a mechanical oscillator with its resonance frequency controlled by the electromagnetic and/or optical fields, such as a microwave-optical interface and a controllable element in a superqubit-mechanical oscillator hybrid system.Comment: 8 pages,4 figure

Oriented Graphene Nanoribbons Embedded in Hexagonal Boron Nitride Trenches

Graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) are ultra-narrow strips of graphene that have the potential to be used in high-performance graphene-based semiconductor electronics. However, controlled growth of GNRs on dielectric substrates remains a challenge. Here, we report the successful growth of GNRs directly on hexagonal boron nitride substrates with smooth edges and controllable widths using chemical vapour deposition. The approach is based on a type of template growth that allows for the in-plane epitaxy of mono-layered GNRs in nano-trenches on hexagonal boron nitride with edges following a zigzag direction. The embedded GNR channels show excellent electronic properties, even at room temperature. Such in-plane hetero-integration of GNRs, which is compatible with integrated circuit processing, creates a gapped channel with a width of a few benzene rings, enabling the development of digital integrated circuitry based on GNRs.Comment: 32 pages, 4 figures, Supplementary informatio
