The impact of changing technology on the demand for air transportation
Demand models for air transportation that are sensitive to the impact of changing technology were developed. The models are responsive to potential changes in technology, and to changing economic, social, and political factors as well. In addition to anticipating the wide differences in the factors influencing the demand for long haul and short haul air travel, the models were designed to clearly distinguish among the unique features of these markets

Distributed Resources Shift Paradigms on Power System Design, Planning, and Operation: An Application of the GAP Model
Power systems have evolved following a century-old paradigm of planning and operating a grid based on large central generation plants connected to load centers through a transmission grid and distribution lines with radial flows. This paradigm is being challenged by the development and diffusion of modular generation and storage technologies. We use a novel approach to assess the sequencing and pacing of centralized, distributed, and off-grid electrification strategies by developing and employing the grid and access planning (GAP) model. GAP is a capacity expansion model to jointly assess operation and investment in utility-scale generation, transmission, distribution, and demand-side resources. This paper conceptually studies the investment and operation decisions for a power system with and without distributed resources. Contrary to the current practice, we find hybrid systems that pair grid connections with distributed energy resources (DERs) are the preferred mode of electricity supply for greenfield expansion under conservative reductions in photovoltaic panel (PV) and energy storage prices. We also find that when distributed PV and storage are employed in power system expansion, there are savings of 15%-20% mostly in capital deferment and reduced diesel use. Results show that enhanced financing mechanisms for DER PV and storage could enable 50%-60% of additional deployment and save 15 /MWh in system costs. These results have important implications to reform current utility business models in developed power systems and to guide the development of electrification strategies in underdeveloped grids
Amicable Numbers With Patterns in Products and Powers
There are many ways of writing amicable numbers. One with divisions and sums. The other with pair of powers of each other. There is another way to represent is in product. In this paper, we brings amicable numbers in pairs in terms of products and powers. The idea of self-amicable is also introduced. Few blocks of symmetrical amicable numbers multiples of 10 are also given. Some interesting patterns among amicable numbers are also given
Triangular-Type Selfie Numbers
Numbers represented by their own digits by certain operations are considered as selfie numbers. There are many ways of writing selfie numbers, such as, numbers written in digit's order or its reverse just with basic operations. We can extend them by use of other operations, such as, factorial, square-root, Triangular numbers, Fibonacci sequence values, etc. In this work, the selfie numbers are written by use of triangular numbers in digit's order and reverse
The length of time's arrow
An unresolved problem in physics is how the thermodynamic arrow of time
arises from an underlying time reversible dynamics. We contribute to this issue
by developing a measure of time-symmetry breaking, and by using the work
fluctuation relations, we determine the time asymmetry of recent single
molecule RNA unfolding experiments. We define time asymmetry as the
Jensen-Shannon divergence between trajectory probability distributions of an
experiment and its time-reversed conjugate. Among other interesting properties,
the length of time's arrow bounds the average dissipation and determines the
difficulty of accurately estimating free energy differences in nonequilibrium
experiments
Zeroth Law compatibility of non-additive thermodynamics
Non-extensive thermodynamics was criticized among others by stating that the
Zeroth Law cannot be satisfied with non-additive composition rules. In this
paper we determine the general functional form of those non-additive
composition rules which are compatible with the Zeroth Law of thermodynamics.
We find that this general form is additive for the formal logarithms of the
original quantities and the familiar relations of thermodynamics apply to
these. Our result offers a possible solution to the longstanding problem about
equilibrium between extensive and non-extensive systems or systems with
different non-extensivity parameters.Comment: 18 pages, 1 figur
Aircraft requirements for low/medium density markets
A study was conducted to determine the demand for and the economic factors involved in air transportation in a low and medium density market. The subjects investigated are as follows: (1) industry and market structure, (2) aircraft analysis, (3) economic analysis, (4) field surveys, and (5) computer network analysis. Graphs are included to show the economic requirements and the aircraft performance characteristics
