Explicit robust schemes for implementation of a class of principal value-based constitutive models: Symbolic and numeric implementation
The issue of developing effective and robust schemes to implement a class of the Ogden-type hyperelastic constitutive models is addressed. To this end, special purpose functions (running under MACSYMA) are developed for the symbolic derivation, evaluation, and automatic FORTRAN code generation of explicit expressions for the corresponding stress function and material tangent stiffness tensors. These explicit forms are valid over the entire deformation range, since the singularities resulting from repeated principal-stretch values have been theoretically removed. The required computational algorithms are outlined, and the resulting FORTRAN computer code is presented
Explicit robust schemes for implementation of general principal value-based constitutive models
The issue of developing effective and robust schemes to implement general hyperelastic constitutive models is addressed. To this end, special purpose functions are used to symbolically derive, evaluate, and automatically generate the associated FORTRAN code for the explicit forms of the corresponding stress function and material tangent stiffness tensors. These explicit forms are valid for the entire deformation range. The analytical form of these explicit expressions is given here for the case in which the strain-energy potential is taken as a nonseparable polynomial function of the principle stretches
On the symbolic manipulation and code generation for elasto-plastic material matrices
A computerized procedure for symbolic manipulations and FORTRAN code generation of an elasto-plastic material matrix for finite element applications is presented. Special emphasis is placed on expression simplifications during intermediate derivations, optimal code generation, and interface with the main program. A systematic procedure is outlined to avoid redundant algebraic manipulations. Symbolic expressions of the derived material stiffness matrix are automatically converted to RATFOR code which is then translated into FORTRAN statements through a preprocessor. To minimize the interface problem with the main program, a template file is prepared so that the translated FORTRAN statements can be merged into the file to form a subroutine (or a submodule). Three constitutive models; namely, von Mises plasticity, Drucker-Prager model, and a concrete plasticity model, are used as illustrative examples
Quantum Fully Homomorphic Encryption With Verification
Fully-homomorphic encryption (FHE) enables computation on encrypted data
while maintaining secrecy. Recent research has shown that such schemes exist
even for quantum computation. Given the numerous applications of classical FHE
(zero-knowledge proofs, secure two-party computation, obfuscation, etc.) it is
reasonable to hope that quantum FHE (or QFHE) will lead to many new results in
the quantum setting. However, a crucial ingredient in almost all applications
of FHE is circuit verification. Classically, verification is performed by
checking a transcript of the homomorphic computation. Quantumly, this strategy
is impossible due to no-cloning. This leads to an important open question: can
quantum computations be delegated and verified in a non-interactive manner? In
this work, we answer this question in the affirmative, by constructing a scheme
for QFHE with verification (vQFHE). Our scheme provides authenticated
encryption, and enables arbitrary polynomial-time quantum computations without
the need of interaction between client and server. Verification is almost
entirely classical; for computations that start and end with classical states,
it is completely classical. As a first application, we show how to construct
quantum one-time programs from classical one-time programs and vQFHE.Comment: 30 page
Neutron scattering study of commensurate magnetic ordering in single crystal CeSb
Temperature and field-dependent magnetization measurements and
neutron scattering study of a single crystal CeSb are presented. Several
anomalies in the magnetization curves have been confirmed at low magnetic
field, i.e., 15.6 K, 12 K, and 9.8 K. These three transitions are all
metamagnetic transitions (MMT), which shift to lower temperatures as the
magnetic field increases. The anomaly at 15.6 K has been suggested as
paramagnetic (PM) to ferromagnetic (FM) phase transition. The anomaly located
at around 12 K is antiferromagnetic-like transition, and this turning point
will clearly split into two when the magnetic field T. Neutron
scattering study reveals that the low temperature ground state of CeSb
orders antiferromagnetically with commensurate propagation wave vectors
and , with N\'eel
temperature K. This transition is of first-order, as shown in the
hysteresis loop observed by the field cooled cooling (FCC) and field cooled
warming (FCW) processes.Comment: 7 pages,9 figure
Screening of patients with tuberculosis for diabetes mellitus in China.
Objective  There is a high burden of both diabetes (DM) and tuberculosis (TB) in China, and this study aimed to assess feasibility and results of screening patients with TB for DM within the routine healthcare setting of six health facilities. Method  Agreement on how to screen, monitor and record was reached in May 2011 at a stakeholders' meeting, and training was carried out for staff in the six facilities in July 2011. Implementation started in September 2011, and we report on 7 months of activities up to 31 March 2012. Results  There were 8886 registered patients with TB. They were first asked whether they had DM. If the answer was no, they were screened with a random blood glucose (RBG) followed by fasting blood glucose (FBG) in those with RBG ≥ 6.1 mm (one facility) or with an initial FBG (five facilities). Those with FBG ≥ 7.0 mm were referred to DM clinics for diagnostic confirmation with a second FBG. Altogether, 1090 (12.4%) patients with DM were identified, of whom 863 (9.7%) had a known diagnosis of DM. Of 8023 patients who needed screening for DM, 7947 (99%) were screened. This resulted in a new diagnosis of DM in 227 patients (2.9% of screened patients), and of these, 226 were enrolled to DM care. In addition, 575 (7.8%) persons had impaired fasting glucose (FBG 6.1 to <7.0 mm). Prevalence of DM was significantly higher in patients in health facilities serving urban populations (14.0%) than rural populations (10.6%) and higher in hospital patients (13.5%) than those attending TB clinics (8.5%). Conclusion  This pilot project shows that it is feasible to screen patients with TB for DM in the routine setting, resulting in a high yield of patients with known and newly diagnosed disease. Free blood tests for glucose measurement and integration of TB and DM services may improve the diagnosis and management of dually affected patients
Self-reported domain-specific and accelerometer-based physical activity and sedentary behaviour in relation to psychological distress among an urban Asian population
Background: The interpretation of previous studies on the association of physical activity and sedentary behaviour with psychological health is limited by the use of mostly self-reported physical activity and sedentary behaviour, and a focus on Western populations. We aimed to explore the association of self-reported and devise-based measures of physical activity and sedentary behaviour domains on psychological distress in an urban multi-ethnic Asian population.
Methods: From a population-based cross-sectional study of adults aged 18-79 years, data were used from an overall sample (n = 2653) with complete self-reported total physical activity/sedentary behaviour and domain-specific physical activity data, and a subsample (n = 703) with self-reported domain-specific sedentary behaviour and accelerometry data. Physical activity and sedentary behaviour data were collected using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), a domain-specific sedentary behaviour questionnaire and accelerometers. The Kessler Screening Scale (K6) and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) were used to assess psychological distress. Logistic regression models were used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals, adjusted for socio-demographic and lifestyle characteristics.
Results: The sample comprised 45.0% men (median age = 45.0 years). The prevalence of psychological distress based on the K6 and GHQ-12 was 8.4% and 21.7%, respectively. In the adjusted model, higher levels of self-reported moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) were associated with significantly higher odds for K6 (OR = 1.47 [1.03-2.10]; p-trend = 0.03) but not GHQ-12 (OR = 0.97 [0.77-1.23]; p-trend = 0.79), when comparing the highest with the lowest tertile. Accelerometry-assessed MVPA was not significantly associated with K6 (p-trend = 0.50) nor GHQ-12 (p-trend = 0.74). The highest tertile of leisure-time physical activity, but not work- or transport-domain activity, was associated with less psychological distress using K6 (OR = 0.65 [0.43-0.97]; p-trend = 0.02) and GHQ-12 (OR = 0.72 [0.55-0.93]; p-trend = 0.01). Self-reported sedentary behaviour was not associated with K6 (p-trend = 0.90) and GHQ-12 (p-trend = 0.33). The highest tertile of accelerometry-assessed sedentary behaviour was associated with significantly higher odds for K6 (OR = 1.93 [1.00-3.75]; p-trend = 0.04), but not GHQ-12 (OR = 1.34 [0.86-2.08]; p-trend = 0.18).
Conclusions: Higher levels of leisure-time physical activity and lower levels of accelerometer-based sedentary behaviour were associated with lower psychological distress. This study underscores the importance of assessing accelerometer-based and domain-specific activity in relation to mental health, instead of solely focusing on total volume of activity
Dissipative production of a maximally entangled steady state
Entangled states are a key resource in fundamental quantum physics, quantum
cryp-tography, and quantum computation [1].To date, controlled unitary
interactions applied to a quantum system, so-called "quantum gates", have been
the most widely used method to deterministically create entanglement [2]. These
processes require high-fidelity state preparation as well as minimizing the
decoherence that inevitably arises from coupling between the system and the
environment and imperfect control of the system parameters. Here, on the
contrary, we combine unitary processes with engineered dissipation to
deterministically produce and stabilize an approximate Bell state of two
trapped-ion qubits independent of their initial state. While previous works
along this line involved the application of sequences of multiple
time-dependent gates [3] or generated entanglement of atomic ensembles
dissipatively but relied on a measurement record for steady-state entanglement
[4], we implement the process in a continuous time-independent fashion,
analogous to optical pumping of atomic states. By continuously driving the
system towards steady-state, the entanglement is stabilized even in the
presence of experimental noise and decoherence. Our demonstration of an
entangled steady state of two qubits represents a step towards dissipative
state engineering, dissipative quantum computation, and dissipative phase
transitions [5-7]. Following this approach, engineered coupling to the
environment may be applied to a broad range of experimental systems to achieve
desired quantum dynamics or steady states. Indeed, concurrently with this work,
an entangled steady state of two superconducting qubits was demonstrated using
dissipation [8].Comment: 25 pages, 5 figure
Overall Evolution of Realistic Gamma-ray Burst Remnant and Its Afterglow
Conventional dynamic model of gamma-ray burst remnants is found to be
incorrect for adiabatic blastwaves during the non-relativistic phase. A new
model is derived, which is shown to be correct for both radiative and adiabatic
blastwaves during both ultra-relativistic and non-relativistic phase. Our model
also takes the evolution of the radiative efficiency into account. The
importance of the transition from the ultra-relativistic phase to the
non-relativistic phase is stressed.Comment: 9 pages, aasms4 style, 3 ps figures, minor changes, will be published
