Small and Medium-Sized Businesses in Malaysia Can Look Forward to the Future of Co-Creation, a Literature Review

    Get PDF
Purpose: The fundamental objective of the study is to provide Malaysian SMEs with a competitive edge by creating a knowledge infrastructure around the co-creation phenomena and pinpointing the existing gap in prior understanding of co-creation.   Theoretical framework: The study provides a summary of the literature on topics such as form, success, origins, definitions, diversity, competitive advantage, differentiation, co-creation innovation, the notion of collaborative advantage, and the DART model for co-creation. The theory and model codes that were uncovered as part of the literature review provided a solid foundation upon which to build further investigations.   Design/methodology/approach: This is a descriptive-based study. The literature review within that article will stress the need for top-level management to know about the positive effects of customer co-creation.   Findings: Co-creating value with customers has the potential to increase brand equity, but this has not been well studied, especially in the context of small and medium-sized businesses. To address these research gaps, this study delves into the topic of co-creation among clients of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the service sector.   Conclusion: It looked into and offered writings on a wide variety of topics, including the landscape of forms, success, and beginnings; definitions; diversity; competitive advantage; uniqueness; and co-creation innovation. The codes from the theory and model would be used to build clusters and emergent themes in the literature review, which would then serve as the basis for further studies

van der Waals Bonded Co/h-BN Contacts to Ultrathin Black Phosphorus Devices

Due to the chemical inertness of 2D hexagonal-Boron Nitride (h-BN), few atomic-layer h-BN is often used to encapsulate air-sensitive 2D crystals such as Black Phosphorus (BP). However, the effects of h-BN on Schottky barrier height, doping and contact resistance are not well known. Here, we investigate these effects by fabricating h-BN encapsulated BP transistors with cobalt (Co) contacts. In sharp contrast to directly Co contacted p-type BP devices, we observe strong n-type conduction upon insertion of the h-BN at the Co/BP interface. First principles calculations show that this difference arises from the much larger interface dipole at the Co/h-BN interface compared to the Co/BP interface, which reduces the work function of the Co/h-BN contact. The Co/h-BN contacts exhibit low contact resistances (~ 4.5 k-ohm), and are Schottky barrier free. This allows us to probe high electron mobilities (4,200 cm2/Vs) and observe insulator-metal transitions even under two-terminal measurement geometry

Cross-linked CoMoO4/rGO nanosheets as oxygen reduction catalyst

Development of inexpensive and robust electrocatalysts towards oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is crucial for the cost-affordable manufacturing of metal-air batteries and fuel cells. Here we show that cross-linked CoMoO4 nanosheets and reduced graphene oxide (CoMoO4/rGO) can be integrated in a hybrid material under one-pot hydrothermal conditions, yielding a composite material with promising catalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) were used to investigate the efficiency of the fabricated CoMoO4/rGO catalyst towards ORR in alkaline conditions. The CoMoO4/rGO composite revealed the main reduction peak and onset potential centered at 0.78 and 0.89 V (vs. RHE), respectively. This study shows that the CoMoO4/rGO composite is a highly promising catalyst for the ORR under alkaline conditions, and potential noble metal replacement cathode in fuel cells and metal-air batteries

Insights into high temperature pretreatment on cellulase processing of bamboo

Bamboo processing was performed with commercial cellulase. The properties of cellulase and the effect of high temperature pretreatment on cellulase hydrolysis of bamboo were investigated. Results indicated that cellulase hydrolysis performed fast and dramatically within 30 minutes, and then gradually reached its balance. It was found that pretreatment played an active role in cellulase processing, which enhanced the saccharification of bamboo and benefited high-molecular-weight lignin degradation and removal. Additionally, a better performance of bamboo processing was achieved under the cellulase concentration of 15IU in total reaction system of 100 ml at 50°C, pH 4.8, together with the high temperature pretreatment of 120°C for 15 minutes

Decreased Innate Migration of Pro-Inflammatory M1 Macrophages through the Mesothelial Membrane Is Affected by Ceramide Kinase and Ceramide 1-P

The retrograde flow of endometrial tissues deposited into the peritoneal cavity occurs in women during menstruation. Classically (M1) or alternatively (M2) activated macrophages partake in the removal of regurgitated menstrual tissue. The failure of macrophage egress from the peritoneal cavity through the mesothelium leads to chronic inflammation in endometriosis. To study the migration differences of macrophage phenotypes across mesothelial cells, an in vitro model of macrophage egress across a peritoneal mesothelial cell monolayer membrane was developed. M1 macrophages were more sessile, emigrating 2.9-fold less than M2 macrophages. The M1 macrophages displayed a pro-inflammatory cytokine signature, including IL-1α, IL-1β, TNF-α, TNF-β, and IL-12p70. Mass spectrometry sphingolipidomics revealed decreased levels of ceramide-1-phosphate (C1P), an inducer of migration in M1 macrophages, which correlated with its poor migration behavior. C1P is generated by ceramide kinase (CERK) from ceramide, and blocking C1P synthesis via the action of NVP231, a specific CERK chemical inhibitor, prohibited the emigration of M1 and M2 macrophages up to 6.7-fold. Incubation with exogenously added C1P rescued this effect. These results suggest that M1 macrophages are less mobile and have higher retention in the peritoneum due to lower C1P levels, which contributes to an altered peritoneal environment in endometriosis by generating a predominant pro-inflammatory cytokine environment

    Clausenain B, a phenylalanine-rich cyclic octapeptide from Clausena anisum-olens

A new cyclic octapeptide, named clausenain B, was isolated by a multi-step chromatography procedure from Clausena anisum-olens. Its structure was established as cyclo(-Phe¹-Ser-Leu¹-Phe²-Phe4-Gly-Leu²-Phe³-) (1) based on extensive spectroscopic studies and chemical evidence. Clausenain B (1) is a phenylalanine-rich cyclic octapeptide

Structural investigations on the mitochondrial uncouplers niclosamide and FCCP

    Get PDF
There has been renewed interest in using mitochondrial uncoupler compounds such as niclosamide and carbonyl cyanide p‐(trifluoromethoxy)phenylhydrazone (FCCP) for the treatment of obesity, hepatosteatosis and diseases where oxidative stress plays a role. However, both FCCP and niclosamide have undesirable effects that are not due to mitochondrial uncoupling, such as inhibition of mitochondrial oxygen consumption by FCCP and induction of DNA damage by niclosamide. Through structure–activity analysis, we identified FCCP analogues that do not inhibit mitochondrial oxygen consumption but still provided good, although less potent, uncoupling activity. We also characterized the functional role of the niclosamide 4′‐nitro group, the phenolic hydroxy group and the anilide amino group in mediating uncoupling activity. Our structural investigations provide important information that will aid further drug development
