    This research is a quantitative approach through a survey method. The aims of this research is to know how the recognition and empowerment can improve achievement motivation in employees. The population used in this research were employees of PT X Jombang with a total sample of 138 employees. Technique of taking subject sample is using accidental technique. Preliminary data were obtained through interviews of some employees while the main data was obtained through questionnaires. Data analysis used multiple regression analysis and partial correlation. The results showed that the recognition and empowerment of employees is an equally important effort to increase achievement motivation. The greatest contribution to improve achievement motivation in PT X Jombang employees is obtained from the recognition

    Motivasi berprestasi dapat dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor yang bersifat internal dan eksternal. Penelitian ini berfokus pada pengakuan dan pemberdayaan karyawan sebagai dorongan yang bersifat eksternal. Pengakuan dan pemberdayaan karyawan dapat menjadi dasar munculnya dorongan internal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan hubungan antara pengakuan dan pemberdayaan karyawan dengan motivasi berprestasi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah karyawan PT X Jombang dengan jumlah sampel 138 karyawan dari total populasi 214 karyawan. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik insidental dan teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis regresi berganda serta korelasi partial. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan hasil uji hipotesis antara pengakuan dan pemberdayaan karyawan dengan motivasi berprestasi memiliki nilai korelasi (r) 0,750 dengan nilai F regresi yaitu 86.715 dan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000 yang artinya p 0,05. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis yang telah dilakukan dalam penelitian ini, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengakuan memiliki sumbangsih yang lebih besar daripada pemberdayaan karyawan dalam meningkatkan motivasi berprestasi karyawan PT X Jombang. Saran dari penelitian ini yaitu perusahaan diharapkan dapat mempertahankan pemberian pengakuan terutama dalam bentuk cash award dan spot programs serta perusahaan dapat meningkatkan pemberian pemberdayaan khususnya dalam bentuk pelatihan baik bersifat internal maupun eksternal. Karyawan juga perlu untuk mengutarakan pendapat pribadi terkait pengembangan diri yang dibutuhkan melalui kepala bagian atau divisi dalam pekerjaannya, sehingga perusahaan dapat mengetahui pengembangan mendesak yang dibutuhkan oleh karyawannya

    Cardioprotective Effect of Novel Matrix Metalloproteinase Inhibitors

    Background: We recently developed novel matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) inhibitor small molecules for cardioprotection against ischemia/reperfusion injury and validated their efficacy in ischemia/reperfusion injury in cardiac myocytes. The aim of the present study was to test our lead compounds for cardioprotection in vivo in a rat model of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in the presence or absence of hypercholesterolemia, one of the major comorbidities affecting cardioprotection. Methods: Normocholesterolemic adult male Wistar rats were subjected to 30 min of coronary occlusion followed by 120 min of reperfusion to induce AMI. MMP inhibitors (MMPI)-1154 and -1260 at 0.3, 1, and 3 µmol/kg, MMPI-1248 at 1, 3, and 10 µmol/kg were administered at the 25th min of ischemia intravenously. In separate groups, hypercholesterolemia was induced by a 12-week diet (2% cholesterol, 0.25% cholic acid), then the rats were subjected to the same AMI protocol and single doses of the MMPIs that showed the most efficacy in normocholesterolemic animals were tested in the hypercholesterolemic animals. Infarct size/area at risk was assessed at the end of reperfusion in all groups by standard Evans blue and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, and myocardial microvascular obstruction (MVO) was determined by thioflavine-S staining. Results: MMPI-1154 at 1 µmol/kg, MMPI-1260 at 3 µmol/kg and ischemic preconditioning (IPC) as the positive control reduced infarct size significantly; however, this effect was not seen in hypercholesterolemic animals. MVO in hypercholesterolemic animals decreased by IPC only. Conclusions: This is the first demonstration that MMPI-1154 and MMPI-1260 showed a dose-dependent infarct size reduction in an in vivo rat AMI model; however, single doses that showed the most efficacy in normocholesterolemic animals were abolished by hypercholesterolemia. The further development of these promising cardioprotective MMPIs should be continued with different dose ranges in the study of hypercholesterolemia and other comorbidities

    Transsplenic portal catheterization combined with a jugular double-lumen catheter for pharmacokinetic and presystemic metabolization studies in pigs

    The reliability of a silicone double-lumen catheter implanted into the external jugular vein and tunnelled towards the neck region was investigated in eight pigs. Surgery was uneventful without interference with the normal homoeostasis during 8 days. After injection of amoxicillin/clavulanic acid through the distal port of the catheter, analysis of drug components in the simultaneous blood samples obtained by the proximal port and a Venoject((R)) system were comparable in one pig. Histological control of the catheterized jugular veins pointed to an acceptable tissue reaction while bacteriological examination of the tip of the catheters was negative in only three animals. A moulding of the intestinal veins was made in a pig cadaver to determine the optimal length of insertion of a silicone portal catheter from the splenic vein towards the portal vein. Surgery was straightforward in four pigs whereby the catheter was exteriorized towards the back region. No complications were encountered during and after surgery for 9 days. The technique of a double-lumen catheter placed into the jugular vein and a transsplenic portal catheter is a useful tool for the study of the pharmacokinetics and also the first-pass effect of drugs in experimental pigs
