The distribution of residence times, and the chaotic saddle together with its stable and unstable invariant manifolds are described and characterized. They shed light on typical filamentation of chaotic flows whose local stable and unstable manifolds are always of different character (plane or line). Poincare recurrences and transient chaos in systems with leaks

In order to simulate observational and experimental situations, we consider a leak in the phase space of a chaotic dynamical system. We obtain an expression for the escape rate of the survival probability applying the theory of transient chaos. This expression improves previous estimates based on the properties of the closed system and explains dependencies on the position and size of the leak and on the initial ensemble. With a subtle choice of the initial ensemble, we obtain an equivalence to the classical problem of Poincare recurrences in closed systems, which is treated in the same framework. Finally, we show how our results apply to weakly chaotic systems and justify a split of the invariant saddle in hyperbolic and nonhyperbolic components, related, respectively, to the intermediate exponential and asymptotic power-law decays of the survival probability.Comment: Corrected version, as published. 12 pages, 9 figure

Lymphomák molekuláris pathológiai diagnosztikája = Molecular diagnosis of lymphomas

Magyarországon folliculáris lymphomák (FL) előfordulási aránya 15-20%. Áttekintettük 1990-1995-ig az Intézetünkben follicularis lymphomaként diagnosztizált eseteket. Vizsgáltuk a szövettan, az immunhisztokémia, az immunglobulin génátrendeződés és a bcl-2 transzlokáció diagnosztikus értékét. Megállapítottuk, hogy a szövettan önmagában nem elegendő. Az esetek 90%-a megoldható immunhisztokémia segítségével, míg az esetek 10%-ában a molekuláris vizsgálatok szükségesek. A FL-ás betegek többségében reziduális keringő tumorsejtek miatt relapsus alakul ki. Komplett molekuláris remisszió után a kiújulás kockázata kisebb. Kidolgoztunk egy új, valós idejű PCR módszeren alapuló technikát, ami a FL-ra jellemző MBR/JH transzlokáció kimutatására és a keringő tumorsejtek mennyiségének meghatározására is alkalmas. Lehetővé teszi különböző klónok összehasonlítását. Az eljárás gyors, egyszerű és költséghatékony. Segítségével a FL-ás betegek követése és ellátása javítható. Az extranodalis marginalis zóna lymphoma az alacsony malignitású lymphomák egyik típusa. Korai fázisban a lymphoma visszafejlődhet Helicobacter pylori eradikáció hatására. Később erre rezisztenssé válik a daganat, számos genetikus és epigenetikus hatás következtében. Kidolgoztunk egy FISH módszeren alapuló diagnosztikus algoritmust, amivel ezen genetikai eltérések közül IgH és API2-MALT1 transzlokáció kimutatásával megjósolható a várható terápiás hatás és a tumor viselkedése. | In Hungary follicular lymphoma (FL) comprising about 15-20%. Our aim was to survey and revise FLs that had been diagnosed in our Institute from 1990 to 1995. We studied the diagnostic relevance of histology, immunohistochemistry and the detection of immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) and bcl-2 gene rearrangements. The histology alone is not sufficient to make a correct diagnosis. 90% of our cases were solvable with the help of immunohistochemistry and in 10% of the cases the diagnosis was partly based on the molecular pathology results. The majority of the FL patients will relapse due to the residual tumour cells. Complete molecular remission is associated with reduced risk of recurrence. We developed a new real-time polymerase chain reaction assay applicable for simultaneous quantification and characterization of the specific MBR/JH fusion in FLs. This method allows efficient detection of tumour cells in bone marrow and peripheral blood and their comparison with the original tumour clone in the lymph node. Our method is fast, easy and cost effective. Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma is a distinct low grade lymphoma. In the early phase MALT lymphomas can regress by H. pylori eradication. It becomes resistant in the later phase that is characterized by a number of genetic and epigenetic abnormalities. We performed FISH analysis to detect these translocations and get more information about the prognosis of the lymphomas. We used IgH and API2-MALT1 split signal probes (Dako)
