FACTOR ANALYSIS OF SPRINT PHASES ON THE SPEED CURVE OF THE 100M DASH
Previous studies have indicated that the speed curve of the 100m dash consists of some distinct phases which can be used to analyze an athlete's performance. The purpose of this study was to introduce a method using a portable computer as a device for the measurement of sprint time and the illustration of the speed curve, and to clarify a simple model of sprint phases on the factor structure. Based on the data of 133 participants, principal factor solution was given to the correlation matrix, and varimax rotation was applied to simplify the factorial structure of sprint phases. Finally, two factors were extracted and interpreted. It is suggested that this method is useful for measurement and evaluation in the 100m dash, and that a simple model of sprint phases may be explained by these two factors. These findings are important in predicting the ability of 100m sprinters and in considering coaching methods in terms of technique, training, strategy, etc

The environment-induced cracking of as-annealed Ni3(Si,Ti) and Ni3(Si,Ti) with 2Mo in sodium chloride solutions
Accepted manuscript version. The final publication is available at Springer via http://doi.org/10.1186/s40712-015-0046-7.Background
The environment-induced cracking (EIC) of as-annealed Ni3(Si,Ti) and Ni3(Si,Ti) with 2Mo has been researched as functions of applied stress, chloride ion concentration, test temperature, and pH.
Methods
The investigation of EIC was carried out by applying a constant method in NaCl solutions.
Results
The EIC susceptibility of both intermetallic compounds increased with increasing test temperature and Clâ ion concentration and increased with decreasing pH. The fracture surface morphologies of Ni3(Si,Ti) was intergranular while Ni3(Si,Ti) with 2Mo was a mixture of intergranular and transgranular, and the relationship between log t f (time to failure) and log l ss (steady-state elongation rate) became the identical straight line irrespective of applied stress, chloride ion concentration, test temperature, and pH, which means that l ss becomes a relevant parameter for predicting t f. The EIC susceptibility of Ni3(Si,Ti) with 2Mo was lower than that of Ni3(Si,Ti), which showed the advantageous effect of Mo.
Conclusions
From the results acquired, EIC of both the compounds was indicated to take place by hydrogen embrittlement (HE)
Association of lower limb muscle mass and energy expenditure with visceral fat mass in healthy men
BACKGROUND: A high-calorie diet and physical inactivity, an imbalance between caloric intake and energy consumption, are major causes of metabolic syndrome (MetS), which manifests as accumulation of visceral fat and insulin resistance. However, the lifestyle-related factors associated with visceral fat mass in healthy men are not fully understood. METHODS: We evaluated visceral fat area (VFA), skeletal muscle mass, caloric intake, and energy expenditure in 67 healthy male participants (mean age, 36.9â±â8.8 years; body mass index 23.4â±â2.5 kg/m(2)). RESULTS: Multiple regression analysis showed that the total skeletal muscle mass (Pâ<â0.001) were negatively and age (Pâ<â0.001) were positively associated with VFA. Lower limb muscle mass (Pâ<â0.001) was strongly associated with VFA. However, total caloric intake, total energy expenditure, and energy expenditure during exercise were not associated with VFA. CONCLUSIONS: Skeletal muscle mass especially lower limb muscle mass negatively contributes to visceral fat mass in healthy men. Therefore, maintaining lower limb muscular fitness through daily activity may be a useful strategy for controlling visceral obesity and metabolic syndrome
Increase in serum triglyceride was associated with coronary plaque vulnerability in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis
AbstractRates of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease are high in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA); however, the mechanisms and biomarkers that reflect coronary plaque vulnerability have not yet been established. We present a case of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) presumably caused by exacerbation of chronic inflammation of RA, in which an abrupt increase in serum triglyceride was seen on the day of onset of ACS but not during effort angina. This case suggests that RA patients with an abrupt increase in triglyceride need intensive care including anti-platelet and statin therapy for the prevention of coronary plaque rupture.<Learning objective: Triglyceride might be a sensitive biomarker of activated macrophages and plaque vulnerability in patients with RA. RA patients with an abrupt increase in triglyceride might need intensive care including anti-platelet and statin therapy for the prevention of coronary plaque rupture.

Background: Compared with global cardiac adiposity, the local accumulation of fat surrounding coronary arteries might have a more direct impact on coronary artery disease (CAD). Here, we compared the local epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness and global cardiac adiposity volumes for predicting CAD.
Methods and Results: A total of 197 consecutive subjects underwent 320-slice multi-detector computed tomography coronary angiography and were segregated into CAD (â¥1 coronary artery branch stenosis â¥50%) and non-CAD groups. EAT thickness was measured at the right coronary artery (EATRCA), the left anterior descending artery (EATLAD), and the left circumflex artery (EATLCX). Although EATRCA and EATLCX were similar between the 2 groups, EATLAD was larger in the CAD group than in the non-CAD group (5.45±2.16 mm vs. 6.86±2.19 mm, P<0.001). EATLAD, after correcting for confounding factors, was strongly associated with CAD (r=0.276, P<0.001) and Gensini score (r=0.239, P<0.001). On multiple regression analysis, Framingham risk score combined with EATLAD was a strong predictor of CAD (adjusted R2=0.121; P<0.001).
Conclusions: The local fat thickness surrounding the LAD is a simple and useful surrogate marker for estimating the presence, severity, and extent of CAD, independent of classical cardiovascular risk factors
