The stationary measure for diagonal quantum walk with one defect

This study is motivated by the previous work [14]. We treat 3 types of the one-dimensional quantum walks (QWs), whose time evolutions are described by diagonal unitary matrix, and diagonal unitary matrices with one defect. In this paper, we call the QW defined by diagonal unitary matrices, "the diagonal QW", and we consider the stationary distributions of generally 2-state diagonal QW with one defect, 3-state space-homogeneous diagonal QW, and 3-state diagonal QW with one defect. One of the purposes of our study is to characterize the QWs by the stationary measure, which may lead to answer the basic and natural question, "What the stationary measure is for one-dimensional QWs ?". In order to analyze the stationary distribution, we focus on the corresponding eigenvalue problems and the definition of the stationary measure.Comment: 10 page

Clinical outcome of patients with recurrent or refractory localized Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors: A retrospective report from the Japan Ewing Sarcoma Study Group

[Background] Patients with Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT) who experience relapse or progression have a poor prognosis. [Aim] This study aimed to identify the prognostic and therapeutic factors affecting overall survival (OS) of patients with recurrent or refractory localized ESFT. [Methods and results] Thirty-eight patients with localized ESFT who experienced first relapse or progression between 2000 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. The 5-year OS rate of the entire cohort was 48.3% (95% confidence interval, 29.9%-64.5%). Multivariate analysis of OS identified time to relapse or progression, but not stem cell transplantation (SCT), as the sole independent risk factor (hazard ratio, 35.8; P = .002). Among 31 patients who received salvage chemotherapy before local treatment, 21 received chemotherapy regimens that are not conventionally used for newly diagnosed ESFT. The objective response rate to first-line salvage chemotherapy was 55.2% in the 29 evaluable patients. Time to relapse or progression was significantly associated with response to first-line salvage chemotherapy (P = .006). [Conclusions] The present study fails to demonstrate significant clinical benefit of SCT for recurrent or refractory localized ESFT. Recently established chemotherapy regimens may increase the survival rate of patients with recurrent or refractory localized ESFT while attenuating the beneficial effect of SCT

We have reported a case of infection with whale tapeworm,Diplogonoporus balaenopterae, in Dokkyo MedicalUniversity Hospital. The patient, a 64-year-old Japanesemale, living in Saitama Prefecture was admitted to our hospitalon Nov. 1st 2012, owing to pieces of tapeworm beingdischarged. He was treated with Biltricide® (20 mg/kg)and Magcorol P®( 100 g) in the hospital and he expelled atapeworm about 250 cm, in length along with the scolex afterabout 2 hours of treatment. Based on the morphologicalfeatures of the strobila and the scolex we strongly suspectedthat the tapeworm belongs to the genus Diplogonoporus. To identify the species of the discharged tapeworm, thecomplete cox1 gene was amplified by PCR and the nucleotidesequence was analyzed. The sequence showed 99 %homology against those from D. balaenopterae. From theseresults the patient was diagnosed as a diplogonoporiasiscaused by D. balaenopterae, whale tapeworm. We could notfind any proglottides of tapeworm nor eggs in stools whenwe performed follow up medical examinations three monthsafter treatment. Therefore it can be concluded that the patientwas cured of this disease. In most cases the infectionsource of the whale tapeworm to humans is reported ascoming from marine fish such as sardines and bonitos. Thepatient had frequently consumed various kinds of raw marinefish, and we suspect that the infection source can beattributed to eating raw whitebait
