Fermi and Gamow-Teller Strength in Charge Exchange with Radioactive Beams

    Get PDF
At forward angles, and bombarding energies E > 200 MeV, the (p,n) and (n,p) reactions are thought to be directly proportional to the Gamow-Teller transition strengths in the nuclei. Assuming that this relationship also holds for charge exchange induced by high-energy heavy ions, it would be very useful in studies with radioactive beams. Contrary to this expectation, we show that the determination of Gamow-Teller and Fermi matrix elements from heavy-ion charge-exchange at forward angles is very inaccurate.Comment: 9 pages, RevTeX, 4 PostScript figures available upon reques

This article presents a proposal for intervention in the Career Management Center for Graduate Program in Business Administration from the University of Taubaté, whose goal is to guide development planning, management and career in executives professionals in training, in the project entitled Development of Social Skills for Leadership. Describes the implementation stages of promotion of social skills, formed by the evaluation of social skills, social skills training and evaluation of the results of social skills training. The systematic development of these interventions is to promote an environment of personal development, discussion of career opportunities and the development of behavioral skills (social and leadership) required by changes in the complexity of the work environment and recognition of these aspects help articulate more efficient interactions

    Nuclear Astrophysics in Storage Rings

Nuclear reaction cross sections are usually very small in typical astrophysical environments. It has been one of the major challenges of experimental nuclear astrophysics to assess the magnitude of these cross sections in the laboratory. For a successful experiment high luminosity beams are needed. Increasing the target width, one also increases the reaction yields. But, this is of limited use due to multiple scattering in the target. Storage rings are a very good way to overcome these difficulties. In principle, they can be tuned to large luminosities, and have the advantage of crossing the interaction region many times per second (typically one million/s), compensating low density internal gas targets, or low reaction rates in beam-beam collisions. Storage rings are also ideal tools for precise measurements of masses and beta-decay lifetimes of nuclei of relevance for astrophysics.Comment: 14 pages, LaTeX, figures available upon reques

Temperature and Emissivity Separation ‘Draping’ Algorithm Applied to Hyperspectral Infrared Data

In the presented work, the spectral emissivity of basaltic melts at magmatic temperatures was retrieved in a laboratory-controlled experiment by measuring their spectral radiance. Granulated bombs of Etnean basalts were melted and the radiant energy from the melting surface was recorded by a portable spectroradiometer in the short wavelength infrared (SWIR) spectral range between 1500 and 2500 nm. The Draping algorithm, an improved algorithm for temperature and emissivity separation, was applied for the first time to SWIR hyperspectral data in order to take into account the non-uniform temperature distribution of the melt surface and, at the same time, solving the two temperatures and the spectral emissivity. The results have been validated by comparing our results with the emissivity measured at a "lava simulator". Basalt spectral emissivity does not vary significantly at magmatic temperature, but shows an absorption feature in the range 2180–2290 nm, an atmospheric window pivotal for the IR remote sensing of active volcanoes.</jats:p
