Relação do índice de satisfação das necessidades de água com a produtividade da soja em diferentes sistemas de manejo e de culturas.
O objetivo do trabalho foi relacionar os efeitos dos sistemas de manejo e de culturas sobre a produtividade da soja à disponibilidade hídrica de cada safra. Foram utilizados dados de produtividade da soja obtidos em três sistemas de manejo do solo (sistema plantio direto - SPD; plantio direto escarificado a cada três anos; e sistema preparo convencional) e dois sistemas de culturas (rotação tremoço/milho-aveia/sojatrigo/ soja-trigo/soja e sucessão trigo/soja) nas safras de 1995/96 a 2008/09. O experimento foi conduzido desde 1988 sobre um Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico em Londrina/PR. A produtividade da soja foi relacionada a um indicador da condição hídrica da cultura, o índice de satisfação das necessidades de água (ISNA). Para cada safra, estimou-se o valor médio do ISNA na fase reprodutiva da soja, por meio do modelo BIPZON. O SPD diminuiu a suscetibilidade da soja a perdas de produtividade pela seca. A escarificação esporádica no SPD e a rotação de culturas não modificaram a eficiência de uso da água pela soja.(INCAPER. Documentos, 14)

Connectome-Based Neurosurgery in Primary Intra-Axial Neoplasms: Beyond the Traditional Modular Conception of Brain Architecture for the Preservation of Major Neurological Domains and Higher-Order Cognitive Functions.
Despite the therapeutical advancements in the surgical treatment of primary intra-axial neoplasms, which determined both a significative improvement in OS and QoL and a reduction in the incidence of surgery-induced major neurological deficits, nowadays patients continue to manifest subtle post-operative neurocognitive impairments, preventing them from a full reintegration back into social life and into the workforce. The birth of connectomics paved the way for a profound reappraisal of the traditional conception of brain architecture, in favour of a model based on large-scale structural and functional interactions of a complex mosaic of cortical areas organized in a fluid network interconnected by subcortical bundles. Thanks to these advancements, neurosurgery is facing a new era of connectome-based resections, in which the core principle is still represented by the achievement of an ideal onco-functional balance, but with a closer eye on whole-brain circuitry, which constitutes the foundations of both major neurological functions, to be intended as motricity; language and visuospatial function; and higher-order cognitive functions such as cognition, conation, emotion and adaptive behaviour. Indeed, the achievement of an ideal balance between the radicality of tumoral resection and the preservation, as far as possible, of the integrity of local and global brain networks stands as a mandatory goal to be fulfilled to allow patients to resume their previous life and to make neurosurgery tailored and gentler to their individual needs
Study of hypothalamic metabolism in cluster headache by proton MR spectroscopy
The authors used 1H-MRS to investigate hypothalamic metabolism in 26 patients with cluster headache (CH) and 12 healthy subjects. Hypothalamic N-acetylaspartate/creatine was reduced in patients with CH vs controls (p < 0.01). Dividing the patients into episodic CH outside- and in-cluster periods and chronic CH, the hypothalamic N-acetylaspartate/creatine in all three subgroups of patients was reduced. The reduction of the neuronal marker N-acetylaspartate is consistent with hypothalamic neuronal dysfunction in patients with CH
<i>Photobacterium sanctipauli</i> sp. nov. isolated from bleached <i>Madracis decactis</i> (Scleractinia) in the St Peter & St Paul Archipelago, Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Brazil
Five novel strains of Photobacterium (A-394T, A-373, A-379, A-397 and A-398) were isolated from bleached coral Madracis decactis (scleractinian) in the remote St Peter & St Archipelago (SPSPA), Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Brazil. Healthy M. decactis specimens were also surveyed, but no strains were related to them. The novel isolates formed a distinct lineage based on the 16S rRNA, recA, and rpoA gene sequences analysis. Their closest phylogenetic neighbours were Photobacterium rosenbergii, P. gaetbulicola, and P. lutimaris, sharing 96.6 to 95.8% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. The novel species can be differentiated from the closest neighbours by several phenotypic and chemotaxonomic markers. It grows at pH 11, produces tryptophane deaminase, presents the fatty acid C18:0, but lacks C16:0 iso. The whole cell protein profile, based in MALDI-TOF MS, distinguished the strains of the novel species among each other and from the closest neighbors. In addition, we are releasing the whole genome sequence of the type strain. The name Photobacterium sanctipauli sp. nov. is proposed for this taxon. The G + C content of the type strain A-394T (= LMG27910T = CAIM1892T) is 48.2 mol%

Reciprocal influence of B cells and tumor macro and microenvironments in the ApcMin/+model of colorectal cancer
One of the most fascinating aspects of the immune system is its dynamism, meant as the ability to change and readapt according to the organism needs. Following an insult, we assist to the spontaneous organization of different immune cells which cooperate, locally and at distance, to build up an appropriate response. Throughout tumor progression, adaptations within the systemic tumor environment, or macroenvironment, result in the promotion of tumor growth, tumor invasion and metastasis to distal organs, but also to dramatic changes in the activity and composition of the immune system. In this work, we show the changes of the B-cell arm of the immune system following tumor progression in the ApcMin/+model of colorectal cancer. Tumor macroenvironment leads to an increased proportion of total and IL-10-competent B cells in draining LNs while activates a differentiation route that leads to the expansion of IgA+lymphocytes in the spleen and peritoneum. Importantly, serum IgA levels were significantly higher in ApcMin/+than Wt mice. The peculiar involvement of IgA response in the adenomatous transformation had correlates in the gut-mucosal compartment where IgA-positive elements increased from normal mucosa to areas of low grade dysplasia while decreasing upon overt carcinomatous transformation. Altogether, our findings provide a snapshot of the tumor education of B lymphocytes in the ApcMin/+model of colorectal cancer. Understanding how tumor macroenvironment affects the differentiation, function and distribution of B lymphocytes is pivotal to the generation of specific therapies, targeted to switching B cells to an anti-, rather than pro-, tumoral phenotype
