Effects of nucleus initialization on event-by-event observables

    Get PDF
In this work we present a study of the influence of nucleus initializations on the event-by-event elliptic flow coefficient, v2v_2. In most Monte-Carlo models, the initial positions of the nucleons in a nucleus are completely uncorrelated, which can lead to very high density regions. In a simple, yet more realistic model where overlapping of the nucleons is avoided, fluctuations in the initial conditions are reduced. However, v2v_2 distributions are not very sensitive to the initialization choice.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, to appear in the Bras. Jour. Phy

Hymenoptera venom allergy: new diagnostic methods

    Get PDF
During the past years, the number of patients with both anaphylaxis to hymenoptera sting and negative IgE detected by conventional methods has been increasing. To obviate this problem new assays have been tried, such as Western blot and in vitro challenge tests involving basophil activation, with either the measurement of histamine and sulphidoleukotrien released (CAST--Cellular Antigen Stimulation Test) or the detection of activation markers on the cell surface with flow cytometric analysis (Flow CAST). In this paper the principles of these assays as well as their diagnostic value in hymenoptera allergy are briefly reviewed

Objective: The research presents the effectiveness of Participatory Research and Action (PRA) specifically in information science. The main statement that motivated this qualitative study was that there is no citizenship without critical awareness. This research has the objective to demonstrate that collaborative work combined with multidirectional and interactive communication in PRA can develop critical awareness and citizenship.Methodology: The study is focused on citizens’ critical awareness development. It is based on bibliographical research, within critical thinking theoretical perspective, one of the currents contemplated by subjectivism epistemology. The study search mainly two data sources. First, Borges’ article, which presents comparative issues related to socialism and capitalism ideologies. Second, Tavares’ PhD thesis, in which PRA techniques were tested. Additionally, findings from several researches related with social development, social rights, popular participation, as well as citizen’s manipulation and domination were also collected. Data analysis were based on grounded theory principles, particularly the coding process and textual examination.Findings: Data analysis revealed three great postulations. First, lack of critical awareness and dissemination of fake news has both guided people to be manipulated, oppressed and dominated. Second, it is essential for citizen to be educated critically to deal with information that affects his life. Finally, it is possible to use PRA to develop critical awareness and citizenship. PRA promotes learning, broadens the notion of citizenship, and develops attitudes such as reading, analyzing and criticizing information, which constitutes an essential skill to developing critical awareness

Fausto como teatro de animação : suas origens sacro-profanas e influências sobre a tradição literária

In this article we intend to present the history of Faust through the puppet theatre tradition and its influences on literary works concerning the heretic doctor. Based on a true character, the legend of Faust goes back to the time of Lutheran reform. Since Spies' "Volksbuch", Faust worked as a warning example to the newborn belief that found in the technique of Puppet Theatre the ideal way to spread its ideology. Later on, warning became entertainment and also fascination towards this character, which gained fame with his fusion to the amusing "Kasperltheater" tradition. Following the traces of this evolution we can surely understand some of the directions the legend took in literary works such as Goethes's "Faust" and Thomas Mann's "Doktor Faustus".Pretendemos, no seguinte artigo, apresentar a história de Fausto através da tradição do teatro de animação e suas influências sobre obras literárias relacionadas ao doutor herético.

Sigmund Freud's metapsychological vocabulary : from the German language to its translations

The following article aims to discuss the ground vocabulary of Freudian Metapsychology, beyond the conception of a simple and stiff collection of technique terms. Facing the fact that Freud was a brilliant writer and a keen explorer of the resources provided by the German language, we intend to demonstrate some distortions his vocabulary and style underwent after its passage through internationally influent translations into English and French. Therefore, since recently his work went into the public domain and finally it begins to be directly translated into Portuguese, it is a capital challenge to Freud´s translators in Brazil to recover the lifelike face of his words not disregarding the accuracy of his propositions.O presente artigo objetiva uma discussão sobre o vocabulário fundamental da Metapsicologia freudiana, para além da concepção de um simples e estanque agrupado de termos técnicos.

Effects of lattice-QCD-inspired equations of state and continuous emission on some observables are discussed, by solving a 3D hydrodynamics. The particle multiplicity as well as v2 are found to increase in the mid-rapidity. We also discuss the effects of the initial-condition fluctuations.Comment: 6 pages, 10 figures, prepared for Workshop on Particle Correlations and Fentoscopy, Kromeriz (Czech Republic), Aug. 15-17,200

Assessment of nutrient entry pathways and dominating hydrological processes in lowland catchments

    No full text
International audienceThe achievement of a good water quality in all water bodies until 2015 is legally regulated since December 2000 for all European Union member states by the European Water Framework Directive (EU, 2000). The aim of this project is to detect nutrient entry pathways and to assess the dominating hydrological processes in complex mesoscale catchments. The investigated Treene catchment is located in Northern Germany as a part of a lowland area. Sandy, loamy and peat soils are characteristic for this area. Land use is dominated by agriculture and pasture. Drainage changed the natural water balance. In a nested approach we examined two catchment areas: a) Treene catchment 517 km2, b) Kielstau catchment 50 km2. The nested approach assists to improve the process understanding by using data of different scales. Therefore these catchments serve not only as an example but the results are transferable to other lowland catchment areas. In a first step the river basin scale model SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool, Arnold et al., 1998) was used successfully to model the water balance. Furthermore the water quality was analysed to distinguish the impact of point and diffuse sources. The results show that the tributaries in the Kielstau catchment contribute high amounts of nutrients, mainly nitrate and ammonium. For the parameters nitrate, ammonium and phosphorus it was observed as a tendency that the annual loads were increasing along the river profile of the Kielstau

Tunneling effects on impurity spectral function in coupled asymmetric quantum wires

The impurity spectral function is studied in coupled double quantum wires at finite temperatures. Simple anisotropy in the confinement direction of the wires leads to finite non-diagonal elements of the impurity spectral function matrix. These non-diagonal elements are responsible for tunneling effects and result in pronounced extra peak in the impurity spectral function up to temperatures as high as 20 K.Comment: Accepted in Phys.
