Thermodynamics of Dipolar Hard Sphere System

    Get PDF
The thermodynamic properties of real physical systems are greatly influenced by the inter particle interactions. Recent experimental progress in trapping and cooling of molecular gases creates great interest in the study of gases with dominant dipole-dipole interactions with electric or magnetic dipole moments. In this paper we use mean field method to find out the non ideal equation of state and thermodynamic properties of a dipolar system

Adaptive Flight Control for Aircraft Safety Enhancements

    Get PDF
This poster presents the current adaptive control research being conducted at NASA ARC and LaRC in support of the Integrated Resilient Aircraft Control (IRAC) project. The technique "Approximate Stability Margin Analysis of Hybrid Direct-Indirect Adaptive Control" has been developed at NASA ARC to address the needs for stability margin metrics for adaptive control that potentially enables future V&V of adaptive systems. The technique "Direct Adaptive Control With Unknown Actuator Failures" is developed at NASA LaRC to deal with unknown actuator failures. The technique "Adaptive Control with Adaptive Pilot Element" is being researched at NASA LaRC to investigate the effects of pilot interactions with adaptive flight control that can have implications of stability and performance

A Study on Strengthening the Operational Efficiency of Dairy Supply Chain in Tamilnadu, India

AbstractThe main objective of this paper is to study the issues in improving the operational efficiency of the dairy supply chain in Tamil Nadu, India. Dairy Farming is a major occupation of the people of Tamil Nadu, India and it contributes a significant amount to the growth of our country. In this paper, Tamil Nadu dairy development department's objectives and its three-tier structure were studied. Through SWOT analysis its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats were analyzed. In our study Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation is compared with Gujarat Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (AMUL). The major issues influencing the dairy farming are studied through literature survey, field study and researchers experience. They are presented in this paper. There were three major important field studies conducted at various time periods. The data has been collected through a questionnaire method and these interactions were recorded by a video camera. Based on the research work carried out on dairy supply chain in Tamil Nadu, India, some key recommendations are made for the attention of policy makers to strengthen the operational efficiency. There are five areas of focus. They are, creation of special dairy zone, implementing dynamic milk procurement method, strengthening cooperative societies, creation of feed bank and increasing fodder productivity, integrated animal health plan and information technology

Free energy analysis of binary alloys at phase transition

Order-disorder transformation in alloys is a fascinating and extensively studied problem for many years. This transformation has been studied widely using the two state Ising model. But vacancies are not considered in two state Ising model, which may play an important rule in determining the composition of stable configuration. So we used three state Ising model which takes vacancies also at lattice sites. To make a realistic study we haveincluded kinetic energy of the particles in the total Hamiltonian

Targeting groundwater potential zones using Electrical resistivity and GIS techniques in Kadavanar Sub-basin, South India

    Get PDF
Geographical Information System techniques are widely used to determine suitable sites for groundwater recharge through artificial recharge techniques. The present research work is to identify suitable locations for constructing artificial recharge structures in the Kadavanar Sub-basin, South India. People in the Sub-basin mainly depend on the groundwater resources for drinking and irrigation purposes. Groundwater resources are often overexploited in many parts of this Sub-basin to meet the water demand leading to groundwater consumption. A lot of surfaces and sub-surface information and criteria are required for mapping the groundwater recharge zone. This is where the geographic information system [GIS] provides the right impetus besides the groundwater prospective zone to harness multilayered spatial data so that multi-criteria analysis is possible. This analysis integrates historic rainfall data analysis, groundwater level fluctuation, stream network, aquifer thickness, land use/land cover and basin slope. Drainage map, slope map and land use/land cover maps were prepared from satellite imageries. Vertical electrical sounding (VES) geophysical survey with Schlumberger electrode configuration was also conducted in the basin at 50 locations to map the aquifer thickness. Spatial variation maps for groundwater level and aquifer thickness were generated using GIS. Weighted aggregation method was used in this study to obtain groundwater recharge maps. Finally, multi-criteria analysis has been carried out to identify and assess the potential sites for groundwater recharge according to the associated weightages. It is established that GIS is best suited for the mapping of groundwater recharge zones. A similar study can be extended to any other hard-rock region facing water crises

Direct observation of 4+ to 2+ gamma transition in 8Be

The low lying states in 8^8Be are believed to have a two-alpha cluster structure and hence a large intrinsic quadrupole deformation. An earlier calculation showed a large collective enhancement in gamma transition probability between the low lying states leading to a 4+^+ to 2+^+ gamma branch of 107\sim10^{-7} and a resonant radiative cross section of 134 nb for the α+α\alpha+\alpha entrance channel. We report here the first experimental evidence for this transition through a γαα\gamma-\alpha-\alpha coincidence measurement in the reaction 4^4He(α,αγ\alpha,\alpha \gamma)4^4He using a gas target. The measured cross sections on and off the 4+^+ resonance are 165 ±\pm 41 (stat) ±\pm35 (sys) nb and 39 ±\pm 25 (stat) ±\pm7 (sys) nb, respectively.Comment: Total 4 pages, 4 figures, in RevTeX format, submitted to PR

Incidence of steroid-induced diabetes mellitus among in-patients treated for COVID-19 infection in tertiary care centre

Background: Glucocorticoids are one of the most effective lifesaving treatments for severe COVID-19 infection. The aim of this study was to review the incidence of glucocorticoid-induced diabetes and its associated risk factors in COVID-19 patients. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study, Hassan institute of medical sciences, Hassan, Karnataka, from 1st July 2020 to 31st December 2021. Data were collected from the medical record department of all RTPCR/RAT-positive cases of COVID-19 patients admitted and treated for COVID-19, with a sample size of 521 patients. Results: In the present study of 521 patients with COVID-19 who received glucocorticoid therapy, 72 (13.8%) of the patients experienced GI-DM. In our series of 521 patients treated with steroid for respiratory diseases, old age and chronic smoking was an independent risk factor for GI-DM. Glucose tolerance declines progressively with age, resulting in a high incidence of type 2 diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance in the old population. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study found that 13.8% of in-patients treated for COVID-19 infection in a tertiary care centre developed GI-DM. The incidence of GI-DM was higher among patients who were older, had a history of smoking, and had hyperlipidaemia or malignancy. The study highlights the importance of monitoring blood glucose levels in patients receiving steroids for the treatment of COVID-19. Additionally, the results suggest that patients with certain risk factors may benefit from closer monitoring of blood glucose levels
