PV cohomology of pinwheel tilings, their integer group of coinvariants and gap-labelling
In this paper, we first remind how we can see the "hull" of the pinwheel
tiling as an inverse limit of simplicial complexes (Anderson and Putnam) and we
then adapt the PV cohomology introduced in a paper of Bellissard and Savinien
to define it for pinwheel tilings. We then prove that this cohomology is
isomorphic to the integer \v{C}ech cohomology of the quotient of the hull by
which let us prove that the top integer \v{C}ech cohomology of the hull
is in fact the integer group of coinvariants on some transversal of the hull.
The gap-labelling for pinwheel tilings is then proved and we end this article
by an explicit computation of this gap-labelling, showing that \mu^t
\big(C(\Xi,\ZZ) \big) = \dfrac{1}{264} \ZZ [\dfrac{1}{5}].Comment: Problems of compilation by arxiv for figures on p.6 and p.7. I have

Tiling groupoids and Bratteli diagrams
Let T be an aperiodic and repetitive tiling of R^d with finite local
complexity. Let O be its tiling space with canonical transversal X. The tiling
equivalence relation R_X is the set of pairs of tilings in X which are
translates of each others, with a certain (etale) topology. In this paper R_X
is reconstructed as a generalized "tail equivalence" on a Bratteli diagram,
with its standard AF-relation as a subequivalence relation.
Using a generalization of the Anderson-Putnam complex, O is identified with
the inverse limit of a sequence of finite CW-complexes. A Bratteli diagram B is
built from this sequence, and its set of infinite paths dB is homeomorphic to
X. The diagram B is endowed with a horizontal structure: additional edges that
encode the adjacencies of patches in T. This allows to define an etale
equivalence relation R_B on dB which is homeomorphic to R_X, and contains the
AF-relation of "tail equivalence".Comment: 34 pages, 4 figure
On the Global Existence of Bohmian Mechanics
We show that the particle motion in Bohmian mechanics, given by the solution
of an ordinary differential equation, exists globally: For a large class of
potentials the singularities of the velocity field and infinity will not be
reached in finite time for typical initial values. A substantial part of the
analysis is based on the probabilistic significance of the quantum flux. We
elucidate the connection between the conditions necessary for global existence

The lady vanishes: what's missing from the stem cell debate
Most opponents of somatic cell nuclear transfer and embryonic stem cell technologies base their arguments on the twin assertions that the embryo is either a human being or a potential human being, and that it is wrong to destroy a human being or potential human being in order to produce stem cell lines. Proponents’ justifications of stem cell research are more varied, but not enough to escape the charge of obsession with the status of the embryo. What unites the two warring sides in ‘the stem cell wars’ is that women are equally invisible to both: ‘the lady vanishes’. Yet the only legitimate property in the body is that which women possess in their reproductive tissue and the products of their reproductive labour. By drawing on the accepted characterisation in law of property as a bundle of rights, and on a Hegelian model of contract as mutual recognition, we can lessen the impact of the tendency to regard women and their eggs as merely receptacles and women’s reproductive labour as unimportant
Effects of the glucolipid synthase inhibitor, P4, on functional and phenotypic parameters of murine myeloma cells
This study describes the effects of the glucolipid synthase inhibitor P4, (DL-threo-1-phenyl-2-palmitoylamino-3-pyrrolidino-1-propanol), on various functional and phenotypic parameters of 5T33 murine myeloma cells. Cell recovery was reduced by >85% following incubation of the cells for 3 days in the presence of 4 μM P4 (the IC50 concentration). Both cytostatic and cytotoxic inhibition was observed with tumour cell metabolic activity and clonogenic potential reduced to 42% and 14% of controls, respectively, and viability reduced to 52%. A dose-dependent increase in cells undergoing apoptosis (from 7% to 26%) was also found. P4 induced a decrease in the number of cells expressing H-2 Class I and CD44, and a large increase in cells expressing H-2 Class II and the IgG2b paraprotein. It did not affect surface expression of CD45 or CD54 (ICAM-1). Based on these alterations in tumour cell growth, adhesion molecule expression and potential immunogenicity, it is anticipated that P4 will provide a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of multiple myeloma. In addition, given that essentially all tumours rely heavily on overexpressed or abnormal glucosphingolipids for growth, development and metastasis, glucolipid synthase inhibitors may prove to be universally effective anti-cancer agents. © 1999 Cancer Research Campaig
In Vitro Interaction of Lithium on Phospholipids in Human Erythrocytes
Lithium salts are used in the treatment of mania and as prophylaxis against manic depressive disorder. The aim of these studies was the in vitro investigation of the effect of lithium on phospholipids of human erythrocyte membranes. Erythrocytes were treated with lithium for 1 h. Phospholipids phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and phosphatidylocholine (PC) were separated from erythrocyte ghosts and determined by HPLC. Blood samples from healthy adults were investigated. A very strong decrease in PC content in erythrocyte membranes due to lithium in vitro treatment was found, as well as a statistically significant increase in PI content
Flatness is a Criterion for Selection of Maximizing Measures
For a full shift with Np+1 symbols and for a non-positive potential, locally
proportional to the distance to one of N disjoint full shifts with p symbols,
we prove that the equilibrium state converges as the temperature goes to 0. The
main result is that the limit is a convex combination of the two ergodic
measures with maximal entropy among maximizing measures and whose supports are
the two shifts where the potential is the flattest. In particular, this is a
hint to solve the open problem of selection, and this indicates that flatness
is probably a/the criterion for selection as it was conjectured by A.O. Lopes.
As a by product we get convergence of the eigenfunction at the log-scale to a
unique calibrated subaction
Renormalization of the Inverse Square Potential
The quantum-mechanical D-dimensional inverse square potential is analyzed
using field-theoretic renormalization techniques. A solution is presented for
both the bound-state and scattering sectors of the theory using cutoff and
dimensional regularization. In the renormalized version of the theory, there is
a strong-coupling regime where quantum-mechanical breaking of scale symmetry
takes place through dimensional transmutation, with the creation of a single
bound state and of an energy-dependent s-wave scattering matrix element.Comment: 5 page
