    The number of missing children and kidnapping is on the rise in recent years. Every parent wills definitely going through an agonizing experience to have their children missing. Therefore, there are many safety measurements to prevent this incident from happening. The help of modern technologies is one of the ways to reduce children missing and kidnapping. A child can be tracked by using the global positioning system (GPS) and global system for mobile communication (GSM) technology. Advanced child monitoring systems are expensive. Not all families have the same living standards. For this purpose, a low-cost child tracking system is proposed in this study. The implementation of the proposed approach is reported in real-time

    Mapping the UK Webspace: Fifteen Years of British Universities on the Web

    This paper maps the national UK web presence on the basis of an analysis of the .uk domain from 1996 to 2010. It reviews previous attempts to use web archives to understand national web domains and describes the dataset. Next, it presents an analysis of the .uk domain, including the overall number of links in the archive and changes in the link density of different second-level domains over time. We then explore changes over time within a particular second-level domain, the academic subdomain .ac.uk, and compare linking practices with variables, including institutional affiliation, league table ranking, and geographic location. We do not detect institutional affiliation affecting linking practices and find only partial evidence of league table ranking affecting network centrality, but find a clear inverse relationship between the density of links and the geographical distance between universities. This echoes prior findings regarding offline academic activity, which allows us to argue that real-world factors like geography continue to shape academic relationships even in the Internet age. We conclude with directions for future uses of web archive resources in this emerging area of research.Comment: To appear in the proceeding of WebSci 201

    Spectrophotometric Study of Acid-Base Equilibria in Non-Aqueous Solvents

    The equilibrium constants for the reaction of 2,6-dichloro-4- -nitrophenol, 2,6-dinitrophenol, 2,5-dinitrophenol and 2,4-dinitrophenol with some aliphatic amines of different structures have been determined spectrophotometrically in chlorobenzene, ethyl acetate and carbon tetrachloride as solvents. The data show that such reactions in inert solvents lead essentially to ion-pairs of the type BH+ ... A- where, HA and B represent the phenol and ·amine molecule, respectively. This conclusions was found to be in agreement with that obtained by other workers. In chlorobenzene as a solvent, the basic strengths fall in the order mono < di- < tri-n- . -butyl amine, while in ethyl acetate the order of basic strengths becomes: mono-> di-> tri-n-butyl amine. These results are discussed from the point of view of solvation as an important role in the determination of the relative strengths of butylamines, as well as the extent to which dinitrophenols are affected by chelation between the phenolic OH and ortho-nitro group. However, in chlorobenzene and ethyl acetate as solvents, the relative basic strengths of pyridine and aniline derivatives remain independent of the solvent when bromophenol blue is used as a reference acid. The of KBH+A- values for aniline derivatives proved to be more suitable for judging the effect of the substituent than the basic strength in aqueous solution

    Implementation of SHE-PWM technique for single-phase inverter based on Arduino

    This paper presents design and practical implementation of single-phase inverter based on selective harmonic elimination-pulse width modulation (SHE-PWM) technique. Microcontroller mega type Arduino used as a controller for producing the gate pulses. The optimized switching angles determination results in wide range of output voltage. Depending on number of switching angles, the lower order harmonics (LOHs) can be eliminated to improve the output voltage waveform. A comparison study using MATLAB/Simulink for sinusoidal-PWM and SHE-PWM techniques, which shows for the same LOH in the output voltage waveform, the SHE-PWM has less number of pulses per half cycle than sinusoidal-PWM strategy. The reduction in number of pulses results less switching losses. The simulation done using ten switching angles to drive R-L load. A prototype of SHE-PWM inverter with R-L load is used to validate the simulation results

    Inappropriate use of antibiotics in the treatment of pharyngo-tonsilitis in children in Khartoum, Sudan

    Background: Pharyngo-tonsillitis represents a major public health problem all over the world. Recent studies in Sudan have revealed alarming results reporting antibiotics over prescription in the management of acute tonsillitis.Objectives: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of Group A Beta hemolytic streptococci and document the appropriateness of using antibiotics in the treatment of acute tonsillo-pharyngitis in Jaafar Ibn Auf Pediatrics Hospital.Materials and Methods: A cross sectional hospital based study was conducted in the period January to August 2012 in Jaafar Ibn Auf Hospital, the largest tertiary pediatrics hospital in Sudan. The sample size was 100 including children aged 2-17 years and got antibiotics treatment for their current sore throat. A pharyngeal swab was collected at presentation from tonsils and posterior pharynx. Gram staining was done first, and then Group A Beta hemolytic streptococci were isolated and identified in the laboratory by their growth characteristics. All children included in the study were assessed clinically and subjected to a structural questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 19.Results: The estimated prevalence of Group A Beta hemolytic streptococci tonsillitis and/or pharyngitis was 22%, nevertheless the proportion of antibiotic prescription was 100%.Conclusion: Most children were treated inappropriately regarding the need for using antibiotics, the type of antibiotics used and the duration of management. As many studies suggested that increased using of antibiotics may be due to uncertainty of diagnosis, requesting scoring system or rapid diagnostic test can contribute to the reduction of the rate of antibiotics prescription.Keyword: Pharyngo-tonsillitis, inappropriate, children, antibiotics, Suda

    A note on the integrable discretization of the nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation

    We revisit integrable discretizations for the nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation due to Ablowitz and Ladik. We demonstrate how their main drawback, the non-locality, can be overcome. Namely, we factorize the non-local difference scheme into the product of local ones. This must improve the performance of the scheme in the numerical computations dramatically. Using the equivalence of the Ablowitz--Ladik and the relativistic Toda hierarchies, we find the interpolating Hamiltonians for the local schemes and show how to solve them in terms of matrix factorizations.Comment: 24 pages, LaTeX, revised and extended versio
