On the formation process of silicon carbide nanophases via hydrogenated thermally induced templated synthesis
A thermally induced templated synthesis for SiC nanotubes and nanofibers
using ammonia or nitrogen as a carrier gas, single wall carbon nanotubes
(SWCNT) as templates as well as gaseous Si is presented. The bundles of SWCNT
act as both the carbon source and as a nanoframe from which SiC structuctures
form. Depending on the duration of the thermally induced templated reaction,
for a fixed temperature, carrier gas, and gas pressure, various SiC
nanostructures are obtained. These structures include SiC nanorods coated in C,
SiC nanorods, SiC nanotubes, and SiC nanocrytals. From our analysis using
transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM),
electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS), electron diffraction (EDX), optical
absorption spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy as probes we prove that H has a
key role on the morphology and stochiometry of the different SiC

Small representations of finite classical groups
Finite group theorists have established many formulas that express
interesting properties of a finite group in terms of sums of characters of the
group. An obstacle to applying these formulas is lack of control over the
dimensions of representations of the group. In particular, the representations
of small dimensions tend to contribute the largest terms to these sums, so a
systematic knowledge of these small representations could lead to proofs of
important conjectures which are currently out of reach. Despite the
classification by Lusztig of the irreducible representations of finite groups
of Lie type, it seems that this aspect remains obscure. In this note we develop
a language which seems to be adequate for the description of the "small"
representations of finite classical groups and puts in the forefront the notion
of rank of a representation. We describe a method, the "eta correspondence", to
construct small representations, and we conjecture that our construction is
exhaustive. We also give a strong estimate on the dimension of small
representations in terms of their rank. For the sake of clarity, in this note

Carbon dioxide reforming of methane over modified iron-cobalt alumina catalyst : Role of promoter
Cobalt-based catalysts are widely employed in methane dry reforming but tend to deactivate quickly due to coke deposits and metal sintering. To enhance the performance, iron, a cost-effective promoter, is added, improving cobalt's metal dispersibility, reducibility, and basicity on the support. This addition accelerates carbon gasification, effectively inhibiting coke deposition. Methods: A series of iron-doped cobalt alumina MFe-5Co/Al2O3 (M= 0, 0.4, 0.8, 1, 2 wt.%) were prepared via simple incipient-wetness impregnation. The catalysts were thoroughly characterized via modern techniques including BET, XRD, H2-TPR, CO2-TPD. Significant findings: The addition of iron had a minimal impact on the properties of Îł-Al2O3, but it significantly affected the dispersibility of cobalt. At an optimal dosage of 0.8 wt.%, there was a notable decrease of 29.44% in Co3O4 particle size. However, excessive iron loading induced agglomeration of Co3O4, which was reversible. The presence of iron also resulted in a decrease in the reduction temperature of Co3O4. The material's basicity was primarily influenced by the loading of iron, reaching its highest value of 705.7 ÎŒmol CO2 gâ1 in the 2Fe-5Co/Al2O3. The correlation between catalytic activity and the physicochemical properties of the material was established. The 0.8Fe-5Co/Al2O3 sample exhibited excellent performance due to the favorable dispersibility of cobalt, its reducibility, and its affordable basicity
Associations of Underlying Health Conditions With Anxiety and Depression Among Outpatients: Modification Effects of Suspected COVID-19 Symptoms, Health-Related and Preventive Behaviors
Objectives: We explored the association of underlying health conditions (UHC) with depression and anxiety, and examined the modification effects of suspected COVID-19 symptoms (S-COVID-19-S), health-related behaviors (HB), and preventive behaviors (PB).Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 8,291 outpatients aged 18â85 years, in 18 hospitals and health centers across Vietnam from 14th February to May 31, 2020. We collected the data regarding participant's characteristics, UHC, HB, PB, depression, and anxiety.Results: People with UHC had higher odds of depression (OR = 2.11; p < 0.001) and anxiety (OR = 2.86; p < 0.001) than those without UHC. The odds of depression and anxiety were significantly higher for those with UHC and S-COVID-19-S (p < 0.001); and were significantly lower for those had UHC and interacted with âunchanged/moreâ physical activity (p < 0.001), or âunchanged/moreâ drinking (p < 0.001 for only anxiety), or âunchanged/healthierâ eating (p < 0.001), and high PB score (p < 0.001), as compared to those without UHC and without S-COVID-19-S, ânever/stopped/lessâ physical activity, drinking, âless healthyâ eating, and low PB score, respectively.Conclusion: S-COVID-19-S worsen psychological health in patients with UHC. Physical activity, drinking, healthier eating, and high PB score were protective factors
A highly N-doped carbon phase "dressing" of macroscopic supports for catalytic applications

Prevalence and Risk Factors for Tuberculosis Infection among Hospital Workers in Hanoi, Viet Nam
BACKGROUND: Transmission of tuberculosis (TB) to health care workers (HCWs) is a global issue. Although effective infection control measures are expected to reduce nosocomial TB, HCWs' infection has not been assessed enough in TB high burden countries. We conducted a cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of TB infection and its risk factors among HCWs in Hanoi, Viet Nam. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: A total of 300 HCWs including all staff members in a municipal TB referral hospital received an interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA), QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube(TM), followed by one- and two-step tuberculin skin test (TST) and a questionnaire-based interview. Agreement between the tests was evaluated by kappa statistics. Risk factors for TB infection were analyzed using a logistic regression model. Among the participants aged from 20 to 58 years (median = 40), prevalence of TB infection estimated by IGRA, one- and two-step TST was 47.3%, 61.1% and 66.3% respectively. Although the levels of overall agreement between IGRA and TST were moderate, the degree of agreement was low in the group with BCG history (kappa = 0.29). Working in TB hospital was associated with twofold increase in odds of TB infection estimated by IGRA. Increased age, low educational level and the high body mass index also demonstrated high odds ratios of IGRA positivity. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Prevalence of TB infection estimated by either IGRA or TST is high among HCWs in the hospital environment for TB care in Viet Nam and an infection control program should be reinforced. In communities with heterogeneous history of BCG vaccination, IGRA seems to estimate TB infection more accurately than any other criteria using TST
